Dan is amazing. I highly recommend his services as a surf coach. He taught my husband, daughters and me how to surf. The conditions were not what he expected, so he kindly asked for us to reschedule even though we were already there. He told us that since we are locals, he would prefer to give us the BEST conditions rather than force my 10-year old to deal with rough waves. We were greatly impressed with his integrity and consideration. My husband taught himself how to surf a shortboard, so it was his first time on a longboard. Andrew was really happy to learn some tips he would never have learned on his own. Those are the benefits of training with a professional. From beginning to end, Dan gave us fantastic customer service and tremendous patience. The following week, my daughter took a second lesson with her 10-year old best friend. This time, she was able to fully stand. My 16-year old and I were able to pop up and stand during our first lesson. I knew that a second lesson would greatly help the younger one. All 4 of us can surf now. Dan instilled in us the belief that we can do it. Now we just need to practice. I told an entire 4th grade class about Dansurf. I'm certain more of Anais's classmates will take classes with Dan. 2 hours per class. PERFECT! Priced perfectly. Now we'll be investing in a rack and boards because we really are happy that we can Surf as a FAMILY. Dan, I'm also telling all of my patients about you!

If you're debating whether to book or not DO IT NOW!! Highly recommended. Surf lessons have been on my bucket list, and I finally contacted Dan after researching on Yelp. Went out with a friend and loved it so much went out the next weekend with 2 more people (4 friends total). He got us up and riding the first day. It is important to be a little flexible bc if he says the surf conditions aren't great, just trust him, and reschedule. It would be discouraging if you try your first day on choppy water. The 2nd lesson all the tips from the 1st lesson really sank in. It wasn't necessary to do a 2nd lesson, but I really want to get good at it :)

Dan was seriously the best! A group of 8 of us wanted to learn how to surf and Dan handled our large and rowdy group very well. Since there were so many of us and he had 4 boards, we split into two groups which worked out perfect. The foam top boards he provides are perfect for beginners and he also supplies wetsuits. I was so scared of the ocean before I decided to learn how to surf and Dan made us all feel extremely comfortable and at peace w the ocean!! He was a very good instructor and a totally cool guy. Let me tell you, we all loved this experience so much we all decided to get our own boards!! Highly highly recommend Dan. ‍

We had a wonderful time surfing with Dan today. My three teenaged daughters and husband went out with him to learn to surf for the first time. They all got up! The best part is they all had smiles on their faces the entire time. Dan really took his time with them and taught them so much more than just how to get up on a board. He is very knowledgable and patient. He was so easy to book a lesson with and he called us twice before the lesson to check in and let us know what the best time for our lesson would be based on the tides. I would 100% recommend Dan! Book yourself or group a lesson with Dan, you won't be disappointed!

A small group of us took surf lessons from Dan. Enjoyed the lesson so much that we can back the following week for a follow up lesson with more people. Very friendly and communicative. Thorough explaining and demonstration, most importantly makes you feel comfortable. Is encouraging but let's you go at your own pace. Would highly recommend!

They had a kayak that could hold 2 adults and a kid in the middle, along with life jackets. We filled out the waiver online, so it was pretty quick to go out once we got there. We parked a little farther up at the paid spots. We launched from Fisherman's Cove. Before this, we had only been kayaking in calm waters in Newport Back Bay. The open waters is a totally different beast. Not gonna lie - I was a little nervous during launch because the waters were definitely rougher than the bay, and I can't swim. But I always felt safe. We went out to a few kelp beds and just chilled there for a bit, chatting with each other, learning about the area and each other. Living in Orange County, I was surprised at how much I didn't know about Laguna Beach and I learned a lot just chatting out in the water. The effect was surprisingly calming as the waves moved underneath us. The kelp beds definitely help break the waves a bit. Although we did pick up some kelp while paddling, it wasn't too bad. There were a few waves that were a little bigger, and our poor kid started to get a bit seasick about halfway through the tour. The way back was pretty straight forward, and we landed right where we launched. Everything was done with such ease - we all really enjoyed it! Even our kid was talking about it once we landed. We were able to wear basic beach footwear on the kayak, but were encouraged to leave everything in the car since there could be a tipping event - luckily we didn't experience one! But they took some photos for us and texted them over. While we didn't see any marine mammals, we did see several types of birds. The experience of being out in the kelp beds alone was pretty cool - I can imagine how magical it is to see some dolphin or a whale out in the water!

We went on a Monday and it was pretty busy lots of college-aged people, maybe even some high schoolers, but the beach itself still felt pretty secluded, and there were hardly any kids around maybe like a handful of them. It was overcast when we went, which actually made it perfect, not too hot and super comfortable. Parking is street parking only, just make sure to read the signs carefully. Once you head down, you'll find restrooms and showers right at the bottom of the stairs, which is super convenient. The restroom is clean earlier in the day (before noon), but like most beach spots, it gets a bit wet as the day goes on. There's plenty of space to set up and relax. One thing to watch out for--seagulls! They will go after your food, so definitely cover it with towels if you're hopping in the water. The stairs themselves are pretty narrow, and people usually stick to one side going down and the other going up, so just be mindful and take your time, they tend to also get wet as the day goes on so it's a little slippery.

Still, the stairs are steep, so caution is needed both going down and coming back up. After spending the day at the beach, that climb somehow feels like 2,000+ steps and hits way harder than expected, so it's best to pace yourself. The beach itself is nice, calming, and clean, which makes the effort worth it. It's a great spot to relax once you're finally down there. Pro tip: pack light. If you bring every single beach "necessity," you will regret it on the way back up. I'm giving this place 4 stars, and the main reason it's not 5 is the parking situation. Parking is honestly horrifying. Parking lot is limited, and street parking is competitive, and mildly stressful before you even touch the steps. Amazing beach, great vibes, killer workout... just come prepared and patient.
