If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I never write bad reviews but me and some friends were checking out the very limited sandal collection and while my friend was looking, he came up in front of us and picked up a pair of fallen sandals and immediately assumed it was us that dropped them. He then proceeded to make passive aggressive comments and watched us the entire time my friend was trying them on. Me and my friends were all Asian and when a white family came in he was immediately accommodating and when they dropped something he immediately offered to pick it up. He could have just fixed the 1 problem and left the rest, but he was thoughtful and took the extra time and care to tune it up better than I could have imagined. I am truly grateful for Rod and Shawn's help! We came to this store last year to rent a surfboard for my son, Rod was very nice and helpful that when we came back to Laguna this year, we knew we wanted to return to CA Surf N Paddle to rent from them again. My son needed a new wetsuit. Rod was just super honest about pricing and what you were getting for your money. I appreciate his honesty! We then told him we would be back the next day to rent a surfboard, he asked how long we were in town for (3 weeks!) that's when he said how many days do you plan to rent? Probably at least 4-5 days. He then mentioned that we would be better off buying a board and that it would pay for itself...he was so kind and said, think about it and obviously you decide what you want to do! In which case my son and I did think about it and it totally made sense to buy a board! Once again, Rod was never pushy and even gave us a great deal. I was very honest with him about not knowing anything about boards or even how to strap them on top of the car. And he offered to help us and show us how to do it! Shawn was there when we bought the surfboard. He put the fins on it, while showing my son how to do it and giving him tips and pointers the whole time! Before we went to the beach to try out this new board, I said to both Rod and Shawn that I would be back to bug them for help on strapping the board on the car. They were both so nice and smiled and said...not bugging at all, we are here to help! Anyway, very long story, when we came back (a while later) Shawn was at the shop alone helping some customers...but he said, give me a min and I'll be right out to help! Seriously, thank you! Showed my son and I how to use the straps, what to look out for to not scratch the paint of the car and was just SO patient with me! They both went above and beyond to help us in every aspect! We came into town and parked in the lot (3 other spots open). We were unloading our car and reasoned that we would go in to purchase our daughter's beach gear when we were done and before we moved the car. The owner came at us in the most threatening manner without any reciprocating banter on our part, due to our 6 year old daughter being with us. He was chill, knowledgeable, and got me in and out efficiently with the kids in tow. The shop is nice and has some beautiful gear inside. Awesome Family Experience!!!! Ron Greenup is the owner and manager of CA Surf & Paddle. He is also a knowledgeable, safe, patient and personable Paddle Boarding and Surfing instructor. Ron and his colleague took my 59 year old partner and I from Dallas and our six nieces and nephews, ranging in age 28 to 11, paddle boarding for the first time. Ron was an excellent and safe instructor. He calmly got us all into the water and gave us thorough step by step instruction how to paddle board.
