I found a mask/snorkel set that I thought I wanted online and Lost Winds was the only nearby place that had it available for pickup so I decided to make the hour long drive. When I got there, I received the most amazing customer service from Eric who I later realized was the owner. He had me make sure the mask fit but let me know he would've suggested another one for me based on my needs. He took the time to let me try something else and explained in detail why he made the suggestions he did. He was happy to refund my original online order and exchange it for his suggestions (not an upsell, they were roughly the same price). He also offered a mask treatment for $10 and I wound up picking up a case and anti-fog spray as well. He did suggest fins but wasn't pushy at all when I said I'd save those for another day. I was so impressed with the level of knowledge, attentiveness, and customer service at Lost Winds. Eric thanked me repeatedly for the support and even suggested a nearby beach where I could try out my new gear. I went directly there for an awesome snorkeling experience with zero fogging, amazing clarity, and easy breathing. I ended up with the Cressi ZS1 Mask and a Riffe Stable Snorkel. Maybe I'll get into some real diving next and if I do I'll be back for more gear. If you want to be sure you're getting the best customer experience and expertise, I'd say this place was more than worth the drive for me.

The pace is chill, there's a disciplined, not regimented, routine with plenty of "non-surfing", wholesome fun (projected movies, games, guitars, skit and talent shows, in the lounge tent). You don't need to have any experience surfing, or you can be a shredder. There's always instructors in the water that are willing to coach you or you can be left to your own talents/whims and do your own thing. They bring the boards as well as lunch all the way down to the beach for the kids and instructors to enjoy (it's a bit of a walk to get down there and I assume it's easier and more convenient to bring the lunch and gear to them). The boards provided are just fine. My son had his own wetsuit and booties so I can't comment on the wetsuits. I grew up in Southern California but we live In Austin, TX. I only mention this because we can't surf in the middle of Texas (generally)! Meaning, zero experience is ok here. There's no pressure to be the best, but there's definitely pressure to have a great time! And they do! The Camp Manager, Bart, is a fantastic guy from Australia that my son loves. He and his team of chill "Counselors" keep a chill vibe that makes this great thing happen. Kudos to Jason and his entire team surf/kid enthusiasts. In a week of trying in pretty heavy conditions for a beginner and this time of year I never once felt unsafe or unprepared thanks to excellent instruction and help getting that big 9' board out and getting a big shove to catch each wave. I had only boogie boarded before and swam some in the ocean. And the last time I was on a boogie board was maybe twenty years prior. I'm now hooked and shopping for a board. Ethan was my constant coach. We had a small class so the coach/instructor to student was nearly one to one. Everyone on the staff were encouraging and really a pleasure to be around. All the campers were great to meet and talk with, laugh and surf. Great fun. I plan on attending every year. And surfing as much as I can fit in every week.

I appreciate that our instructor (Jack) didn't take any chances and called the lesson for the kids because of the conditions. Safety is number 1 with this group. Jack was a tremendous instructor -- incredibly knowledgeable and guides you through the basics all the way to standing up and riding the waves. The logistics of the lesson were easy, the equipment was good, and everything went super smoothly. No issues getting refunds for my kids who couldn't surf. A+. Will definitely use them again for lessons.

I didn't become a pro but after about 1.5 hours I was able to catch and ride. My wife was doing even better. Few weeks later we came back with our friends and their 10 year old kids. KG Beach Camp was an amazing experience for my kids and exactly what our family needed over the…read moresummer. My kids enjoyed every single day of camp. There was a different adventure each day and such a great variety of activities that they were always excited to tell us about when they got home. I especially wanted to share how much this camp, and particularly the owner, Nicole, meant to our family during a really difficult time. While my son was hospitalized as that week of camp began, Nicole went above and beyond for our family and graciously welcomed my girls for the full week when we needed it most. Having them covered from morning through the afternoon allowed my husband to spend as much time at the hospital as possible, while I knew my girls were safe, cared for, and having a great time. We honestly couldn't believe some of the things they would share with us about each day. They got to go whale watching, paddle board, explore, and have all of these little adventures so close to home. It felt like a mini vacation for them when they didn't even have to travel anywhere to have those experiences. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and made my kids feel safe and comfortable. You could tell they really cared about making sure the kids were having a great experience, not just keeping them busy. My girls came home excited, tired, and full of stories every day. What meant even more to me was that Nicole's kindness didn't end when the week of camp was over. We spoke on the phone afterward, and she checked up on my son and prayed for him. That meant so much to me during such a difficult time. I am especially grateful to Nicole for turning what could have been a very scary and difficult experience for my girls into a week they remember for all the fun things they got to do. They came away with great memories, new friendships, new experiences, and even new skills. That is something I will always be grateful for. I would absolutely recommend KG Beach Camp to other families. It is such a unique way for kids to spend their summer--active, adventurous, outdoors, and experiencing things they might not otherwise get the opportunity to do. We love this camp!…read more My kids and nephew have done this camp every year for several years now. They started in the mini minnow group (youngest group; no getting in the water). After that, they participated in the safari group (whale watching and water activities included). The last group is the h2o group (whale watching; kayaking; sailing; more advanced water activities). At every level, they were happy and excited to go to camp each morning. In fact, they prefer to do multiple weeks of this camp each summer. They love crab hunting, whale watching, sailing, and dock diving best. The counselors are young and energetic. They keep them safe and help reapply sunscreen every day. My kids come home with stories about how the counselors paid special attention to them and how they've made new friends. I love this camp and the people that help make it great every summer. We will continue to come until we age out! Highly recommend.
