The pace is chill, there's a disciplined, not regimented, routine with plenty of "non-surfing", wholesome fun (projected movies, games, guitars, skit and talent shows, in the lounge tent). You don't need to have any experience surfing, or you can be a shredder. There's always instructors in the water that are willing to coach you or you can be left to your own talents/whims and do your own thing. They bring the boards as well as lunch all the way down to the beach for the kids and instructors to enjoy (it's a bit of a walk to get down there and I assume it's easier and more convenient to bring the lunch and gear to them). The boards provided are just fine. My son had his own wetsuit and booties so I can't comment on the wetsuits. I grew up in Southern California but we live In Austin, TX. I only mention this because we can't surf in the middle of Texas (generally)! Meaning, zero experience is ok here. There's no pressure to be the best, but there's definitely pressure to have a great time! And they do! The Camp Manager, Bart, is a fantastic guy from Australia that my son loves. He and his team of chill "Counselors" keep a chill vibe that makes this great thing happen. Kudos to Jason and his entire team surf/kid enthusiasts. In a week of trying in pretty heavy conditions for a beginner and this time of year I never once felt unsafe or unprepared thanks to excellent instruction and help getting that big 9' board out and getting a big shove to catch each wave. I had only boogie boarded before and swam some in the ocean. And the last time I was on a boogie board was maybe twenty years prior. I'm now hooked and shopping for a board. Ethan was my constant coach. We had a small class so the coach/instructor to student was nearly one to one. Everyone on the staff were encouraging and really a pleasure to be around. All the campers were great to meet and talk with, laugh and surf. Great fun. I plan on attending every year. And surfing as much as I can fit in every week.

There was a different adventure each day and such a great variety of activities that they were always excited to tell us about when they got home. I especially wanted to share how much this camp, and particularly the owner, Nicole, meant to our family during a really difficult time. While my son was hospitalized as that week of camp began, Nicole went above and beyond for our family and graciously welcomed my girls for the full week when we needed it most. Having them covered from morning through the afternoon allowed my husband to spend as much time at the hospital as possible, while I knew my girls were safe, cared for, and having a great time. We honestly couldn't believe some of the things they would share with us about each day. They got to go whale watching, paddle board, explore, and have all of these little adventures so close to home. It felt like a mini vacation for them when they didn't even have to travel anywhere to have those experiences. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and made my kids feel safe and comfortable. You could tell they really cared about making sure the kids were having a great experience, not just keeping them busy. My girls came home excited, tired, and full of stories every day. What meant even more to me was that Nicole's kindness didn't end when the week of camp was over. We spoke on the phone afterward, and she checked up on my son and prayed for him. That meant so much to me during such a difficult time. I am especially grateful to Nicole for turning what could have been a very scary and difficult experience for my girls into a week they remember for all the fun things they got to do. They came away with great memories, new friendships, new experiences, and even new skills. That is something I will always be grateful for. We love this camp!…read more My kids and nephew have done this camp every year for several years now. They started in the mini minnow group (youngest group; no getting in the water). After that, they participated in the safari group (whale watching and water activities included). The last group is the h2o group (whale watching; kayaking; sailing; more advanced water activities). At every level, they were happy and excited to go to camp each morning. In fact, they prefer to do multiple weeks of this camp each summer. They love crab hunting, whale watching, sailing, and dock diving best. The counselors are young and energetic. They keep them safe and help reapply sunscreen every day. My kids come home with stories about how the counselors paid special attention to them and how they've made new friends. I love this camp and the people that help make it great every summer. He loved the variety of activities and made so many new friends. He came home with fun stories each day. I loved that they offered a variety of options from 2 days/week to 5 days. We returned last summer and an unexpected and sudden medical event threw our summer for a loop. They were beyond kind and accommodating. My son attended Adventurewood camp for the first time this week. For the most part he enjoyed…read morehimself -- particularly the characters they introduce throughout the week. However, we decided to pull him out for next week because of a very disturbing situation. He shared that a counselor had pushed him with both hands on his shoulders during a capture the flag activity. He had dropped his flag and was putting it back on when a counselor (he didn't know her name) pushed him back hard enough to make him lose his balance and fall. She also barked "you need to reset!" She didn't ask if he was ok or help him up. You'd think if this was an accidental push and he fell over she would say something like "sorry bud are you ok? Here let me help you up" but nope, not a word. A friend he's attending camp with witnessed the whole incident. Since I pick them both up in the afternoons they both recounted this situation to me and both of them noted how inappropriate her behavior was. I immediately reached out to Michael, the owner of the camp. He said he wanted to identify this counselor and get her side of the story. Understandable. My son felt uncomfortable going back the next day but I reassured him it would be handled and offered to drop him off in the morning and stick around to talk to Michael and the counselor. I wanted him to feel safe. Michael identified her (her name is Carson) and said he wanted to talk to her first, which he did a few feet away from me. I heard her say she didn't push him. They then walked over to me and she again denied everything. So we asked both kids to come over and recount what happened. They both did -- in front of her -- and reiterated she pushed him. She denied even touching him. So Michael suggests at this point that perhaps it was an accident and my son responds by saying "how do you push someone like that by accident?!" No response. So I ask her, are you saying these kids are lying? She again said she didn't touch him and at this point we send the kids away. I'm incensed because not only does she gaslight both of them to their face but tells this bold faced lie to her boss in front of the campers and me. I tell her I believe them and I think she's the one lying. At this point she gives me this dirty look - angry, irritated and almost rolls her eyes at me. I turn to Michael and say "and now she's giving ME an attitude?!" Unbelievable. In a follow up call, he tells me how good of a person she is and that this is shocking for him to hear but that she doesn't seem like someone who would do something like this...that she's getting her teacher credentials and he knows her really well. I am getting the vibe he doesn't actually believe any of this and he sounds very skeptical. I respond by telling him that it's almost always surprising when people exhibit bad behavior and that even teachers do bad things...that doesn't make her any more credible in my eyes. He acknowledged that. In fact, it's worse because I would be really concerned to have someone like that teaching a kid. Lack of empathy, accountability, and integrity. I mean, I think it's great he's trying to have her back but there are moments in life when you need to draw a line and act swiftly...these are one of those moments. Because ultimately, this impacts the reputation of your camp. I told him that it would be good to offer training to his staff in case this ever happens again in the future and honestly he sounded baffled and asked me to clarify...I said well maybe tell your staff not to give dirty looks to a mom who's clearly upset that her son just got pushed by a grown adult at summer camp?? I told him that the response to this situation could've resulted in a totally different outcome. Had she said something like "I really don't recall pushing you but if I inadvertently did and made you feel bad I'm sorry - I didn't mean to do that" - I would've went home that morning feeling fine about the situation. When I told him this he said that he's not going to police all her reactions, that she's still young, that she's still learning and made all kinds of excuses for her. Exhausting. Apparently she got a "warning" and will sit out of the flag activity (umm, ok...). He seems like a smart guy and wish him nothing but success in the future and I was earnestly trying to offer advice for how to handle a situation like this better but it fell on deaf ears. I really hope that some kind of learning comes out of this for both of them. Oh and to top it off, my son's friend told her mom that Carson was giving her looks several times throughout the day today and when she asked what kind she said "side eye" looks. NOT COOL. My son also said she was kind of mean to him but wondering why they were even in close proximity when Michael said they'd absolutely be separated and would not see each other? Validates we both made the right choice by pulling them both out. He offered a refund but I'm still pissed about the situation.

My daughter is in a public language immersion program and I wanted to make sure she had a solid…read morefoundation in English reading and literature as a 1st grader. I felt that 1st grade was a really important year and I wanted to make sure she had a solid academic foundation. She attended summer camp before 1st grade and loved it!!! She said it was her favorite camp of the summer - which says a lot since she was in a lot of great camps. My daughter now goes once week for 1st grade Smart Start. Despite being in an immersion program where only 20% of the day is in English, my daughter is reading 1-2 grade levels above and what is more important is that absolutely loves reading!!! I couldn't be happier with her progress and her appreciation of literature. Ms. Frank is a master of her craft and her enthusiasm for literature is infectious! We're so happy that we found Club Lit!

My family has been going to this shop for about 20 years…read more One of the ladies there really knew her stuff and explained to me that I didn't need a 9" center fin with my 2+1 setup. She recommended a 6.5" fin, I learned that Bill Stewart invented with the 2+1 fin setup. I've owned 4 Stewart Surfboards over the years. I've always liked the beveled edge on the Stewart boards. They work as good as they look. they turn better than any board i've ever had. The Stewart/Leines family and everyone at the shop are very friendly, down to earth and pretty laid back. It's just a fun place to go, look at surfboards. They have tons of videos on youtube also. I learned a lot of stuff watching the videos. They have a huge selection of boards to look at, and they are made in the USA.

Erik Leines was reccomended by surfboard shaper Cordell Miller to repair a Hypto Krypto I bought…read morethat was damaged. I reached out to Erik and he said to bring the board by the shop. He found that it needed a fin box repair and a stripped screw replacement. He fixed the issues, and also did a re-repair of a small hole the board had, which had a sloppy repair, without me even asking. He made the repair totally smooth and good as new. So if you ever buy a beater board or just need a repair, bring it by this shop. And then yesterday I picked up a new board that Cordell made me, and he reccomended heading down to Stewart to buy some fins for it, so I did. Everyone was super nice in the shop. Very cool spot, too.
