I took my 17-year-old son to Laguna Beach for Spring Break where he wanted to learn how to surf. After checking various companies and reviews I came across Goff Tours and am SO happy I did. Goff made the entire experience AMAZING from start to finish. The way he explains how to surf guarantees success. My son was up and surfing on the first runs and just got better with each wave. Awesome experience!!! I tried surfing 3 times and could never stand up. So I booked lessons for my kids, wife and myself. I was surprised when Goff said he could cover all four of us on his own. Keep in mind, my kids can barely swim. I was nervous, but he also brought a photographer and asked if she can take and share complimentary pics! I agreed and we went on with the training. All I need to say is Goff has this down. He has a way of keeping it simple and everything makes perfect sense. It's hard to remember some of the simple rules when you're trying to catch the wave, but you figure it out. Overall, we all stood up! Unbelievable!! Rude guy on the phone hung up on me when asking about their wetsuit rentals. Completely unwarranted & unprofessional...

Goff was a pretty nice guy when I talked to him on the phone and his rental prices are pretty decent. When we met him, he was super helpful when he helped us pick our gear and where to go for the best snorkeling action, but man... He was rude when we came back to turn in our rental gear. I tried to explain my struggles with the equipment and he wouldn't help me understand what happened... Instead he made a point to say that it was my issue not the equipment. The thing was...it was my issue with the equipment. Also, when we turned in our stuff, he said that visibility is pretty bad for snorkeling at the time you came and the waves were not ideal for snorkeling today... He knew we were coming from Chino when I called him and so I felt that was not cool to mention any of this to me when I was on the phone with him. The only thing he mentioned was for everyone to get a wetsuit because of overcast. It felt like he just wanted to make a sale and didn't care about his customers as much as he should have cared. Then, he said that we should take one of his tours next time to get a better experience. I was disappointed in the fact that it seemed like we were being treated kind of like suckers and it left a bad taste in our mouths. I doubt we'll be taking a tour with him any time soon. read more

I paddle board quite a bit w my dog but never in the ocean - only in the harbor, bay and lakes. So I wanted to take this tour to help me understand ocean safety more and learn about waves and wind conditions. My 3 daughters, 12,14 and 17 year old, took their first surfing lesson today with Goff. We are beyond satisfied! He is amazing with kids, he knows how to make them comfortable and excited to learn. He was very professional and fun at the same time. The girls had amazing time and they were able to stand on the board and catch a wave at the end of the lesson. I moved away from OC a of couple years ago and always love to come back down and get in the water and do some snorkeling. We decided to come down with some of our friends who have young children and due to the Covid situation we had to be active on the beach. I wanted to make sure that the kids were warm enough in the water so we could stay down there longer. We ended up getting wet suits for everybody else as well as boogie boards and skim boards. Goff made this the easiest transaction ever as well as being the embodiment of a true beach lifer; genuine, relaxed and has the real information on the area and advice as to what to do and where we should go. We will definitely be using his services again whenever we bring friends with us who don't have the equipment they need to get in the water and enjoy the beach to it's fullest. Amazing first surf lesson (3.23.22)! My daughter and husband were up and surfing in minutes with Goff. I hung back with Anne, Professional Photographer, and if I lived in Cali I'd make her my friend. She was lovely. She showed pics/video's for corrections to my husband and daughter after each ride. Goff is clearly talented, warm and skilled. Whoever I spoke to on the phone does not know how to run a business. I called him around noon because I wanted to rent snorkel masks and wetsuits from him. He said he was out of the area and would be free after 1 or 1:30 to meet up at Diver's Cove. I told him that since we are tourists, we don't have a car and are just on foot walking around. So I told him we will have lunch first and then I would call him to meet at Diver's Cove later after 1:30. So my friend and I eat lunch first, since we have time to kill. 2:00 rolls around, and I call him back to ask him if we should meet at Diver's Cove, because we are walking that way. He says yes, and instructs me to call him back once I get there to see if I want to dive. So we took the trolley and walked to Diver's Cove. When I called him to see where we could meet, he said he was at Starbucks fixing his computer and would be another 30 minutes before he could meet us! Now mind you, Diver's Cove is a considerable walking distance from us. We took the trolley and we still walked another 15 minutes after that. Total time, we spent almost 25 minutes to get there. And the only reason we made the trek there was because he said he was available after 1:30 to meet at Diver's Cove. He knew we were walking and didn't have a car with us. He never told us he wasn't even in the area. And if he wasn't even at Diver's Cove, why didn't he offer to meet us where we were already at, instead of making us walk so far for nothing? He expects his customers to wait 30 minutes for him while he tinkers around on his computer in a Starbucks. I understand he is probably a pretty easygoing beach guy, but that is no way to run a business. Normally, wouldn't you drop everything you're doing to go serve your customers first and make money? Instead of keeping them waiting when they walked all the way to come see you? He said the reason he wanted us to go to Diver's Cove and check out the water ourselves is because today there is bad visibility and it's windy and "the elements could overtake us." And that customers sometimes change their mind at the last minute because of those issues. He made it sound like our lives could be in danger or something by going in the water. FYI, it was a bright and clear, sunny day in the middle of August. We ended up finding snorkels from elsewhere, and the weather was perfectly fine. I could see all the way to the bottom of the ocean and there wasn't even a little bit of wind. There were almost no waves at all. I feel like this guy lied to me because he knew he made a mistake. And instead of owning up to it and trying to remedy the mistake by driving immediately to the designated meetup spot, he made up some BS excuses. He claimed he could see the ocean from Starbucks, so he could obviously see that it wasn't windy. In fact, we had been outdoors in the area all day, and it wasn't windy at all. And if he could see the ocean from Starbucks, that meant he WAS in the area. So why wouldn't he just come to meet us if he was so close? We had to leave by 4 PM that day, so we didn't have time to just sit around for half an hour waiting for some guy who might not even show up. So we walked to Shaw's Cove and luckily found a water sports store right outside of Shaw's Cove on PCH and Wave Street that did snorkel and wetsuit rentals. P.S. This guy also claimed that the reason his rates are so cheap is because he doesn't have a physical store. But the store that we rented from charged the exact same price as him. And you don't even have to coordinate a meetup. Thankfully, it was a short 3-minute walk from Diver's Cove. If that store wasn't there, we wouldn't have been able to go snorkeling that day. read more

Goff and his staff absolutely crushed it. I was more than happy at the end of my kids surf lessons, they were 8 and 11. Goff's timeliness, professionalism, superb attitude, great surfing instruction, and positivity were a welcome add-on to our family vacation in Laguna. We had never surfed before and both my kids got up several times, and were thrilled they were able to venture into the ocean, and the experience will last them a lifetime. If you ever get a chance to do surf lessons near Laguna, look up Goff, you wont be disappointed. Great experience and definitely recommend!! Was wanting to go surfing before my flight home that evening, and I got in for a surfing lesson about an hour after calling. Instructions were very simple and he gave good feedback each time. He also gave a lot of good information about surfing conditions and the ocean. Despite this being my first attempt at surfing, I stood up pretty much every time, and we even had some dolphins come near us. The free photos were also a great addition as I was there alone. Went surfing with Goff, he is very polite nice and thoughtful picked me up at my house he provided all nice gear surfboards wetsuits water sunscreen we did a nice warm up stretch on the beach and he explain the high and low tides and pointed out beautiful surf spots and great waves. My boyfriend and I rented snorkels, masks, and fins for the day to check out Shaw's Cove. Goff and Anne were both friendly and really helpful. Goff lent us some rash guards for UV protection and Anne even brought us some lifejackets and took photos. Every once in awhile you meet someone doing exactly what they were meant to do. Goff is one of those rare people. It seems he was destined to be a surf instructor. And you'd be hard pressed to find a better one. He's incredibly passionate about surfing and totally vested in helping you become a better surfer regardless of your age and skill level. I bought a package of five lessons and it was worth every penny. Every session I felt completely safe, despite some rough conditions on one of the days. And throughout each session, I had tons of opportunities to catch waves. Goff has an uncanny sense for exactly where you should be positioned to catch the most waves, while keeping a good distance from other surfers. No time is wasted. Throughout each session I received a steady stream of feedback and instruction...along with some much needed encouragement when I was so exhausted I could barely paddle. Like any good coach, Goff isn't afraid to give you some "tough love" when you need it. I also really appreciated how organized he was. Coordinating lessons was a breeze and he's incredibly responsive via phone/text/email. All of our lessons started right on time and to top it off, he provides high quality gear...and pictures of you surfing! Last but not least, Goff is a genuinely good person. At the beach one day, we ran into a 6-year old boy that Goff had given lessons to. The kid's face lit-up like a Christmas tree when he saw Goff. After you hang around Goff for a few sessions, you get the sense that he's touched hundreds of people's lives in the community, probably thousands. Everyone on the beach knows him and endears him.
