Located just outside of Dennison, this craft distillery is family owned and has a big selection. We sampled a number of different varieties and all were good. We stumbled across them and unfortunately the day we went we were too late for a tour. We plan to go back for a tour in a couple weeks. The owner really seemed to genuinely enjoy giving the tour along with his mother. It's a family run business. There were not any food options but plenty of delicious whiskey to taste during the sampling tour. Well worth the money. Met with family members on a weekday. The distiller's father gave us a great education on how the family started the business and its struggles and successes. Clearly they have done a lot quite well. The spirits we tasted were really good. We were inspired by the fun and spirit of the establishment. Truly a Texas gem. This was mine and my husbands second tasting. We brought my father-in-law for something to do while he was in town. The whisky is really good and I am new to drinking whisky. I love learning so much how its made and all the work that goes into one bottle. It truly is a passion. I am a big fan of their vodka. They have the best vodka I've ever had. If you're ever in Dennison, TX (75ish miles north of Dallas) you MUST go visit the Likarish family at Ironroot Distillery! A great little tour led by Robert (Son) and tasting led by Marcia (Mom). Where else are you going to get a tour led by the people who run the distillery? And a 10 minute explanation of the corn they use...nerdy and love it! Only one of my favorite distillers in Texas. This family owned distillery is amazing. They are updating and upgrading their facility at the moment but if you want to try what whiskey with love taste like this is the place. The family is amazing and super knowledgeable about their products and others. This should be declared as One of the Seven Wonders of Texas. I can't wait for their facilities to be fully operational in the very near future. Took a tour today of the distillery. They have a great setup. I have toured MANY distilleries and was pleased to learn new information today. Robert was excellent and explaining the processes and answering questions. His mom was a pleasure to be around and also very informative. Left there with an appreciation of their love of experimentation as well as a few new (signed) bottles to add to my collection. Will definitely be taking my friends here the next time they are in town. Definitely worth the hour drive. read more

I have been to many distillers and this one blows them all away in knowledge, personality and oh my God their whiskeys!!! A must do for anyone that likes a strong smooth bourbon or whiskey. We have been going here almost ever weekend since we moved here in April. Between the private parties that they have booked, that usually take up half the seating area, and the daycare that occurs at one of the tables, it is not very comfortable or inviting for a couple to sit and have a quiet drink. I think it would be inappropriate for most family run businesses to have their small children use the front room as a play area, especially when the business is serving up booze by the glass. I bought a souvenir Moscow mile cup on our first visit, that is suppose to save you a dollar a drink. About half the time they forget, and charge me full price. Sometimes I remind them of their error, sometimes I just let it go to keep from looking like a cheap ass. I guess they aren't used too many people having these, or they are not concerned. We just got ran off again, my wife left half of here drink in the glass. And I got charged full price again. I think we are done with this place. read more

Best place to go for "fresh" liquor! These guys do it right! Loved the bourbon (watch out, Kentucky!) but we are not lovers of the rye. So if you like just a hint of rye... this bourbon is for you (its for us!) Now the GIN is really unique. Great flavor all on its own. I may start drinking my Gin & Tonics without the tonic! It's that good! Staff is really friendly and love their products. Apparently Second Saturday Bloody Mary Bar. I suggest you go try it out. read more

Went to Ironroot for their Saturday distillery tour. Met owners Robert and Jonathan Likarish. They were generous with their time and chatted with us while waiting for the tour to begin. We enjoyed a comprehensive review of the distilling process and a tour of the barrel room. Afterwards, we were offered samples of their whiskeys with a description of each. Fantastic tour and fantastic whiskey. Will definitely go again. read more
