We had a very disappointing experience here tonight. I ordered the "award winning" braised short ribs which came with a potato and vegetables. The short ribs were good for the first 2 bites but that was all I got before I was hit with *ALL* the fat. The ribs were jiggling when the server set down the plate. I realize that this is a fattier cut of meat but where was the actual meat? I tried to fill up on the vegetables but they were seasoned with way too much minced garlic. Our bill was almost $70 for 2 people with a tip. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

I think the toughest part about giving someone one star is that I really don't do it. I walked in to this restaurant and told the girl behind the bar that we had just eaten up the street and we wanted to sit outside and have a glass of wine and a glass of beer and an appetizer. She said sure no problem. Tell us what you want and we'll bring it out to you. My husband and I sat down, and we place some packages from some stores where we had done some shopping on the table. We also set a small to go container on the table that had our leftover two slices of pizza in it. The waitress came out without our drinks and told us that we weren't allowed to eat our leftovers at the table and that if we did, she would have to scream at us, I thought was a very bad way of approaching this. She said the manager had told her to tell us that that we would have to be yelled at if we touched our to go container. I probably wouldn't have ordered two appetizers but my husband did. Our drinks came out and then our food came out and then the flies. I'm not talking a couple flies in just a few minutes. Our food was covered with flies. The waitress came back once and I said something about the flies and she said yeah and walked away. When she came out 15 to 20 minutes later, I told her we were thoroughly disgusted that we had to cover our food with napkins and we didn't eat because it was so disgusting there must've been 30 to 40 flies all over our drink glasses and our food. I was angry. The manager came out. She slammed the ticket in front of us and said you don't understand Minnesota this time of year apparently I don't. I told her if you had told me there was gonna be flies all over my food I wouldn't have sat out here. Then she started screaming at me and I said I'll make sure I write a review and let people know how nasty this place is. It's either dirty and you're not taking care of things or you just don't care to tell your customers not to sit outside because it was a fly hatch. I have to give them kudos because my husband like the dip, but he didn't eat much of it because of the flies. Can you imagine you pick up a piece of bread to put in your dip and there's four flies sitting on it. I'm not exaggerating and I'm not trying to make this restaurant look bad I'm just saying no customer service from the owner manager and although they didn't charge us for food that's OK cause we really didn't eat it. We ate some of the dip. We took the chips back to feed to the birds in the park but other than that, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. As a suggestion, she may want to have someone come out and pick up the cigarette butts off the ground that we're all around our table. I didn't take any pictures. I don't think it's necessary. For the people that know my reviews and know me I never say a bad thing about any restaurant unless it's absolutely necessary. I think I'm a reasonable person, but she was a total bitch. If you look at my reviews, I never give somebody one star unless they absolutely deserve it. I've been doing this for a long time and it really upsets me that this woman was yelling at me in front of all the other customers. I grab my things and left. The perfect treat after a 9 mile hike. We started our meal with two great IPAs, which set the tone for a fantastic experience. Our waitress recommended the brisket tacos, and they did not disappoint--they were absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the brisket sandwich, which was also terrific. The chips were amazing, perfectly crispy, flavorable and complemented the meal beautifully. One highlight was the bourbon barbecue sauce; it had a wonderful kick and depth of flavor that really elevated the meal. The service was exemplary from start to finish. Our waitress was attentive, and when my husband accidentally left his phone at the table, she ran it out to us--truly going above and beyond. We'll definitely be back! read more

Absolutely Impressed! Just ate there last night for dinner, it is now my favorite place in the lakes area, bar none! I think I should have been a food and restaurant critic in another time, ( because I myself make such delicious meals, and I want to open a food truck or restaurant) but this place made me excited to go out to eat again. The portions are hands down spot on! The service was impeccable, the cost was better than most places nowdays, especially when you factor in the portion size! I will be making this my go to place to eat out from now on, and we drove from Merrifield to eat there. I seen the Facebook page with their photos of plates of food the day before and I had to go the next day. I was blown away and kept saying Wow! And to think I just ate at the Crosslake, MN Zorbaz two nights before last night and had a pathetic pregnant burrito for $13.50 that they thought what they should do is shrink the size of the burrito from when I used to frequent the establishment. Talk about a let down that establishment is. Who does that, shrinks their food and raises their prices. Actually irritated me when it came to the table. what a joke! The burrito you get a taco bell is bigger than there pregnant burrito. I won't be going back there again. But I would drive a long distance to eat at the Iron Range Eatery again. The ambiance of the place with the decor of the inside and outdoor seating is incredible. I can't rant and rave enough about the place. As long as they put out that kind of food and service, I'll be back. I already, since yesterday, have shared the experience and place with two others as soon as it turned 8 am. I mostly like this place a lot but have a few small quibbles. I'll cover those first. The door set up is tough in the winter. Since there is only one door (no vestibule) every time the door opens it's pretty cold in the front of the restaurant. The menus is not huge. There are a few appetizers, 3 salads several hand helds, pizzas and a number of entrees. Our last trip we were not up for a full meal and had a little trouble finding something lighter that we haven't had. Now the good. The food is across the board good. I love having some chef driven, ingredient focused places and this really checks this box. We had a really good Ferfie (Patty) Melt and the Vinegar Cod sandwich. The cod was excellent and the toppings fresh. The lightly battered fries are great, the side salads are large and loaded with veggies. The dressings are homemade and universally tasty. We have also recently had the Big Cuyuna Burger (juicy patties, root beer flavor, bacon, onions and addicting smoked bacon ranch dipping sauce). The Dill Chicken Sandwich is moist and flavorful (not very dill flavored). The Reuben is excellent and all locally crafted. The beer bread is great. Overall we will continue to go here despite quibbles. read more

We were looking for a quick bite after a morning at Cuyuna and the menu at Iron Range looked delicious! We arrived around 4pm in a Saturday, plenty of open tables, and we didn't have to wait for a seat. The waitress was very friendly and quickly got us waters and took our orders - then we sat, for over 50 minutes waiting for our food. It wasn't just our food, every one around us also waited a very long time for food. Once we did get our food it was delicious! Everything was super flavorful and tasty but waiting an hour was a bummer. My husband got the Bananarama Pizza and said it was super tasty, and he loved the crust. I got the nachos and they were great too. The queso was the perfect flavor and consistency, they were a little light with the brisket and guacamole but there was plenty of queso - enough to take home! Overall it was OK. If the server wasn't so friendly, it'd be 3-stars but she saved it. read more

The photos included are from my very first visit, when the Iron Range Eatery first opened! The food was delicious and has been every time. I also have tried the lettuce wraps, and the lobster seafood pizza. Anytime I'm in the Crosby area this is my go to place. The only con would be the customer service. The last time I visited was the day after the 4th of July so it was pretty busy. The service was slow, even getting our drinks room at-least 10 minute. Even though the customer service experience needs improvement I would still highly suggest this place if you are in the area because the food is quality! read more

Same issues as before, food took forever to arrive. My Ruben was not great. The corned beef was tough and oily. Fries were flavorless. This was our 2nd visit this summer, giving it another try after a so-so visit earlier. Their menu relies on pickled or caramelized onions, and I'm not an onion person. Thought I could go for the braised short ribs, but the braising sauce is made with onions. So I switched to the fried cod sandwich that I saw on their website menu...sorry that got switched to an Ahi Tuna sandwich. Okay, I'll have the $28 walleye entree, at least that comes with their special Au gratin potatoes...sorry we ran out (at 7:45?). They could substitute fries. Sure. No discount offered. Meal was delivered and fries were the bottom of the basket of their curly fries, maybe leftover from someone's Arby's lunch. I should say the Walleye was very good or this might have been a two star rating. My wife was disappointed in her Hail Caesar salad. At least that's what she ordered and we paid for. It seemed more like the mixed greens salad with big leafy not romaine lettuce, and whole cherry tomatoes the size of small Roma tomatoes (tomatoes were not even on the menu description). It was supposed to come with a Parmesan crisp and Parmesan cheese. She found a sprinkle of Kraft grated Parmesan on one of the lettuce leaves, but that was it. My first night in Crosby and dinner at the Iron Range Eatery was like an out of the park home run, off the first pitch in a baseball game. The restaurant covered all the "C's" ; clean, comfortable , casual, and I might even add contemporary. There was a killer patio made out of stone and steel that I wish was open. The menu really tipped the scale positively. It featured so many creative and tempting dishes I really struggled to pick just one. So I ordered two. Two appetizers. I ordered the Crab cakes and Avocado Toast. The Crab Cakes were good, not real bready with a delicious citrus Harrisa tartar sauce. Very satisfying. However, the "Everything" Avocado toast rocked! I've never had anything like this. Such an interesting combination of flavors. I'm not going to list the ingredients, you'll need to discover that yourself, but I'm going to try to copy this because I don't want to wait to come back to Crosby to have this again. read more

So honestly, my rating fluctuates between 5 to 1 depending on what part of the visit I examine. The atmosphere/vibe is nice, service was great (I even tried a sample of the hard kombucha), the fresh bowl of tomato & basil soup was excellent. The thing that really brought down the rating was their pizza. Yeah-I LOVE wood fired pizza (a little burned is ok) but I think our choice is what made a good pizza into a soggy mess. We chose the Korean Pizza. The outside of the pizza was great, but all of the middle of the pie was inedible (believe me-we tried). Maybe it was the cold kim chi piled ontop of the middle of the pizza. If I were a chef d'cuisine, I would recommend you order the Korean with the kim chi ON THE SIDE. read more
