Knowing it would likely be the spring when I'm back again we made a special trip to celebrate my nephew's birthday. Cool vibe inside. Lots of black on black, which I like. Music was 80's rock, which I don't like, but appropriate for who was in there. The barkeeps were very good - friendly and made excellent cocktails. My nephew and I had smoked old fashioneds (his first!) and my sister had a margarita. We all agreed they were delicious. I'd very happily come back here! Recommend.

Broasted too long, dust for a crust and dry meat with little to no seasoning. Three people in our group got it and nobody ate a second piece. Mashed potatoes were instant, which was a let down because how hard is it to boil a potato? Roll on the plate was nice to see but there was no butter. Walleye bites was the other order and they were overcooked, dry and bland. Color of the batter gave away the age of the oil; dark and old. Service was so so, nobody asked how the food was and when paying the bill there was no checking to see how the meal was or a thanks, see you next time etc. Heard good things about the chicken, thought we'd try it, glad we did because I don't have to go for the Friday fish fry now. Sorry but I cannot see trying this again.

One member of our group ordered the jerked chicken and ribs, and the ribs were the standout. They were tender, flavorful, and fell right off the bone. The chicken was slightly dry, and we agreed that ordering just the jerked ribs would be ideal. Another guest ordered the regular ribs and found them to be somewhat dry and less tender, although they were still enjoyable. The au gratin potatoes were very good, and the chicken Alfredo was also well prepared. This is one of the more expensive restaurants in the area, so it is not somewhere we visit frequently. However, the restaurant offers a distinctive cabin-style atmosphere, with one side dedicated to the bar. The overall setting has a fun, welcoming "up north" feel.

Four of us in the party, two meals were acceptable the other two , not so much. We were told that the corned beef was homemade but what we got was canned. Our meal…read moretook over two hours, and it very much seemed that the staff believed "sorry we are busy" and a free desert would make it all better. More details below. The food was excellent, except for the falafel. I've never had falafel before that wasn't crispy on the outside. I'm not sure if the dish sat for a while before being served, or if The Pines simply serves it non-crispy. It was soggy. The great food included: Chicken, Scampi, Sea Bass, Walleye Tempura, Popovers, Potatoes, Beets, Cauliflower. All of these were excellent and everyone at our table was so pleased. The service: I'm not sure if I will return. It is unlikely. Our initial round of food appeared very quickly. Things slowed down after that. The rest of the food took an eternity to arrive. I truly considered asking for the bill and leaving before our mains, but we were treating friends. My tiny water glass kept going empty, and finally someone asked if we would like a carafe of water. Yes, yes indeed. Beverages were in general slow. We were told that we would receive a free desert, and asked for the menu. When she came to see what we might order, we had to ask for the menu a second time. More slow. What fun. I privately let our server know I was quite disappointed prior to the bill arriving. I was crystal clear before we ordered that I was to receive the bill. The bill was left on the table with one of my guests. I provided my credit card, and again the bill was left with my female guest. Did you even look at my name on the card (an obviously male name).
