Marx is a reliable place to get a cold beer and good pizza. There are other great menu items but the pizza is my favorite.

Burgers, fries etc are very good and as a bonus there is an attached off sale liquor store to grab some beverages for the cabin.

So you need to know what you are getting into when you get here. A rural MN bar on one side with a…read moresupper club on the other. Nice menu and as a whole for a rural MN place it is pretty good. Salad bar is definitely a step above the typical place like this that only has iceberg lettuce, croutons, Bac-os, cheese, cherry tomatoes and carrot shavings with french and ranch for dressings. As a whole, a step above the others in its food genre. For that I'll give it 4 stars. But if your arteries are feeling healthy and you want a good old fashioned greasy meat sandwich have I got the 5 star recommendation for you. The ribeye steak sandwich. Might be sacrilegious to put a nice steak on bread, BUT.... Freshly cut and grilled ribeye, toasted bread and lots of butter. Do you need anything more? A good beer to wash it down? Sure. But that's it. I can't get away from this every time we go through here. It is simply fantastic. Again, juicy steak, butter, toasted bread and more butter. Wow. Comes with fries I think. I don't really care what it comes with actually. Probably will contribute to my early death from heart disease. But oh well. Life can't be all salads and smoothies.

Salad bar was adequate but not what it used to be. The cheese steak soup was outstanding. I…read moreshould have just gotten the soup and salad bar but came to try the chicken dinner special. Broasted too long, dust for a crust and dry meat with little to no seasoning. Three people in our group got it and nobody ate a second piece. Mashed potatoes were instant, which was a let down because how hard is it to boil a potato? Roll on the plate was nice to see but there was no butter. Walleye bites was the other order and they were overcooked, dry and bland. Color of the batter gave away the age of the oil; dark and old. Service was so so, nobody asked how the food was and when paying the bill there was no checking to see how the meal was or a thanks, see you next time etc. Heard good things about the chicken, thought we'd try it, glad we did because I don't have to go for the Friday fish fry now. Sorry but I cannot see trying this again.

Surprisingly good food in an unexpected location. This place is way off the beaten path in remote,…read morerural Minnesota near Big Sandy Lake. We decided to give it a try, and found a place that locals already love. We went on Thursday when the special is "Half Price Burgers." All the burgers, (except for the specialty burgers), are 1/2 price on Thursday. Even though most of our group went with the half price burgers, my wife and I went with the pizza. We were both surprised how good it was. We really weren't expecting anything quite like that. For one thing, the largest pizza they serve is the 14", but it seemed larger than most place's 14". The crust was good with no aftertaste, the sauce had a good flavor, and they put on plenty of cheese. The vegetable toppings were fresh and tasty, too. Minnesota has surprised us a couple of times with good food in unexpected places. The restaurant itself is really more of a bar with video games, football advertising all over the place, and the general look and feel of any average bar. It looked pretty much the way you would expect such an establishment on the side of the road by a lake in rural Minnesota, but the menu was very surprising. They had a good variety of food options including a number of different burgers, the usual bar food, salads, and, to our surprise, pizza. The waitress was very friendly, the prices were good, and the entire experience was very nice. I would definitley recommend this place to anyone, and I will not hesitate to return whenever I am in this area of the country.

Instead I got a green olive swiss mushroom burger with fries. They get an extra star for the creativity of adding green olives, but they will not serve pink and they used a regular grocery store white hamburger bun. The burger was well done and on the medium size. They could make the burger pop if they used brioche or other nicer bun, used more meat, and went pink. A disappointing 3 stars for mucking up what could be a home run. Maybe a 4 would be more fair given the creativity of the green olives. I almost did not order the fries. OMG. BEST EVER FRIES ON THE PLANET. It turned out the bartender and server, Sharon, is the owner. She said she changed the recipe a year ago. Well, she did right. I frankly would go back just for the fries: big, perfect crunch, great color and flavor, and a huge portion. See photo. I thought about taking an order of the fries home to see if I could figure out how to make these at home. I will have to go back. Enthusiastic 5 stars for the fries. Another surprise was having two IPAs on tap. I got two of the Alaskan Brewing Company IPAs, and even posted a photo of it on Instagram of it. First off, we were out in the middle of no-where, and they have TWO IPAs on tap. Every other bar we went to did not have any on tap, and few even had bottles. I asked Sharon how in the world an Alaskan IPA wound up tjere. She said she asked her distributor for a really good IPA. She got it. A few 5 stars here: for being creative with two IPAs in the middle of no-where, for taste, bar service. Service. Sharon is very attentive and nice. I appreciated her candor about why I could not order a pink burger (the cook), the beer story, and her comical interaction with the two knuckleheads I was with who blew all their Pulltab winnings, plus about $60. 5 stars. Loved the decor, including a big red half of a canoe for Leinenkugels beer, and a smaller inflatable one. I guess it would be typical for an area bar. So this is not a 5 star fancy schmancy formal dining establishment. It is, however, a diamond in the rough for that area. 5 stars for what I wrote about, and hopefully the burgers will improve. This is the kind of place Yelp was built for: to direct people like me to high quality mom and pop businesses. I hope the locals appreciate what they have.
