This is one of our favorite spots to go in Moose Lake. This restaurant is so cute - it has a northern MN vibe, super cute outdoorsy decor and just cozy. Their food selection is great and their homemade breads are wonderful. Service was very friendly and prompt. I had the chicken salad croissant and chicken wild rice soup and it was delicious! They also have a super cute gift shop filled with mugs, sweaters, T-shirts, kids toys and just alot of fun things to see. I highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area! read more

Great service and amazing food with a comfortable setting. Thank you for a great experience Everytime.

Only place on town for a classic brunch spot (literally). Have been going for years. Noticed they now require an "optional" 12% service fee on their receipt. Glad to see it shared with the staff in its entirety (finally I guess??). The optional is not optional. It's added to your bill regardless of party size. When they already charge $6/3 pieces of thin hormel bacon, it's upsetting. Now if I had a choice, it would be one thing. But not having a choice is what's upsetting. read more

Been to the bear and had to try the moose. The moose isn't as crazy as the bear a whole different vibe, but still the same great food and gifts. Great service from Shelia. It was closer to lunchtime so I got the wild rice meatloaf sandwich with the darkest of gravies. Garlic mashed which I was assured wasn't too garlicky. I appreciated that. I had a few bites of the wild rice soup and it's one of the best I ever had. Basil got a pork schnitzel. The iced tea was in a large glass and strong. Just delicious. I brought home a loaf of cranberry wild rice bread, cause where else would I find it? Also a tiny bottle of maple syrup. The whole pies were eye catching. Can't wait to try breakfast there. I found out they brew their own coffee. read more

Authentic, local atmosphere that welcomes visitors. I love breakfast for any meal and husband likes soup and sandwiches for lunch so this was the perfect place for us. I had the French toast bacon combo. OMG the French toast was huge and delicious. Thick bread covered in butter and dipped in syrup. Crispy bacon. Calories mean nothing when I have a meal like this. Husband got a chicken Caesar wrap and chicken wild rice soup. We were both quite happy with our meals. Staff was great. Meals came out quickly. I liked how the staff was all working together and helping each other out. Great teamwork. Great stop. read more

We stopped at Moose Lake to participate in their Agate Days and see what that was all about. Digging dod agates eventually makes you mighty hungry so we stopped here for some food. Our waitress told us that about 95% of the menu was made in house. Sure, I've heard that before but I was pleasantly surprised by how true it was when we got our food. Their homemade pickles were amazing. Breads, french fries, sauces, etc. all homemade. Now your probably are thinking of everything here is homemade so prices must be astronomical but in reality prices are very fair. The service here is also small town friendly. Hard working, interested in your experience, committed to your enjoyment of the meal, you could tell they took great pride in their hometown restaurant. We enjoyed our visit and we will be back the next time we find ourselves looking for some more agates. I overheard that the Butterscotch Pie is amazing, I didn't see it in the cooler on this stop so I'll have to come back to check again! read more

Probably the best breakfast I've ever had! Great coffee and servers are always friendly. Have stopped in 3 times out of 4 trips. The Kalevala hash with the rosemary hollandaise sauce is just memorizable. Add the apple, rice pancake to the mix and it's a sovereign breakfast. Look no further on this stretch of highway between the twin cities and Duluth this is where you want to over indulge for breakfast. read more

If you want a friendly, down home place to eat, this is it! I've been here twice and both times we were greeted and served promptly. The food is straight forward American food. The pies are wonderful. You can have pancakes for lunch or get the walleye. It's a quick couple miles off I35 and definitely worth getting off the road for. They have a cute gift shop too. read more

This place gets a 10/10 for me. 100% worth a short detour off 35 if you're going up to Duluth or coming back and want some great homemade food. The Northwoods omelet and eggs Benedict (on homemade English muffin) were both incredible. The hollandaise sauce was so good on both of them. Definitely get the cinnamon French toast as your side for the omelet and/or the special hash they make. They also brew their own coffee here. They also sell cranberry wild rice bread and buns and have a little gift shop with MN goods. Will definitely be making this a regular stop on the way to the north shore. read more

This place has a great cozy, up north vibe and I was absolutely blown away by how good my breakfast was! I got the veggie omelet with French toast as my side. I love when there's an easy option to mix sweet and savory at a breakfast / brunch restaurant! This is a must stop in Moose Lake! Super warm and cute welcoming charm. Plenty of very comfortable seating. They offer various crafts, gifts, and goods for sale too. The things I was most excited about is that food items are made from scratch! Even the coffee beans are roasted there and ground fresh before brewing. Yes, you can buy coffee beans from them. They use real cream, butter and, for an upcharge, real pure maple syrup. They also boast homemade jam, fresh bakery goods, and Kemps ice cream. I've been here twice now. I didn't ask, but will next time, about what else can be ordered that's not on the menu. I inquired on oatmeal and they do have it, different types too, but I opted for the steel cut. If you order a bowl, you will not go away hungry! I got mine with sides of cream, brown sugar, and crazins. The only thing I can think of to suggest would be walnuts for some crunch. My 2nd visit I had the apple wild rice pancake and bacon. It was very good. Not as filling as oatmeal but pleasant. One more strip of bacon would be nicer. You are looking at around $15 to $20 for breakfast all said and done so it's not exactly cheap but I feel worth the quality as a treat but maybe not a multiple time a week visit, my personal opinion of course. Be aware, they do add on an "optional" 12% gratuity to be split between all staff. Who is going to ask it be taken off though? Kinda stinky in my book. Anything you tip beyond that goes to your server. (I just like to be in control of my tipping and not feel like it's a way for owners to skimp on wages and place that burden on their patrons. We also already get a mandatory charge when you use credit cards most places as well. Aren't these things cost to do business? I just don't like having to do math with all the add ons and upcharges to figure out what my bill will be. Rant over.) I'd like to try lunch sometime but I don't think my schedule will ever allow it unfortunately so maybe someone can update with that. All in all, best place for a relaxing sit down meal with pleasant/friendly/good service. read more

Great food and service. Appreciated the GF options and view from restaurant windows was very nice.

Wow! Fantastic walleye sandwich, the bakery goods looked amazingly tempting and the onion rings were top notch!

We had been on a long four week motorcycle trip, and we were on our way back.. Stopped for gas and thought well. This seems to be a good place to stop and get something to eat.. We found the lazy moose on yelp and then asked a local at the gas station.. And he said yup go. We sure work glad we did. More food than you could finish but so good.. My friend Michelle had the chicken and rice soup and she said she never had anything as good. A gem for sure read more

My wife and I shared a plate of the tenderloin sandwich and a side of Kalevala and both were very delicious! We also shared a slice of homemade strawberry Rhubarb pie. So good!! I wish I would have taken pictures. The service was great and the attendant provided us with great recommendations. The only negative thing which was no fault to the restaurant was a very fussy child in the next booth that cried a lot. We will definitely stop there again the next time we drive that way. read more

Food was so good but service was super, super slow. Stopped in on a Sunday for lunch on our way back from the North Shore. Interesting menu, commercials, meatloaf, liver, very homey selections. Once our server was told to grab our table he came over for our drink order, and came back promptly with those. That was it. I had to grab his attention to place our order. I opted for the wild rice meatloaf burger, BF elected for a hot beef commercial. After our order was placed, it came out in the window & sat for quite a few minutes. Mind you, there was probably four other tables in use & one other server. Never checked back on us, had to get up to ask for a box and check. I'm not sure if the kid was new or just oblivious, but serving isn't his forte. As for the food, the meatloaf burger was different but sooo good. Loved the bistro sauce they put on it. Onion rings were hot out of the fryer. Hot beef commercial was huge. Gravy was homemade and super tasty. If I get a different waiter, I'd definitely go back. read more

Food wasn't bad, but definitely not as good as reviews and social media posts would have you believe. We ate their once when we bought a home in the area, while we were waiting to outfit our house with cooking items/etc.. No one in my Family was impressed. My biggest issue with the Restaurant was the service. Slow and not very friendly - they managed to upset my wife which is not easy to do. Then the bill came and I was even more bugged, as the food was overpriced for what was served. That wasn't to surprising though, as I knew that from the menu. What got me bugged was that they added an automatic gratuity - we were not a large party - typical Family of 4, though my wife was eating for two. The service was not worth any gratuity - but I wasn't going to ask them to remove it. We just won't be repeat business. They also added a dining in fee that was not listed on the menu. As we were leaving I was thinking next time maybe we'll order to go if we order again, but on a sign by the register I saw they have a take out order fee. That clinched to for me. We haven't dined their since, and don't plan to go back. read more

A little gem in the middle of northern Minnesota. This is a two store chain with the other restaurant in Barnum. The atmosphere is very down home and the food is excellent. We had a breakfast that was excellent. The Kalevala hash browns are delightful, I have the Northwoods omelette, which is wild rice omelette with hollandaise sauce, The breads and pastries are home baked and very good. Service is excellent. Second review, update. Had lunch at same place. Just as good. This has the same vibe as Duluth Grill, all offerings use in house ingredients and are very healthy and delicious. read more

Great little place to stop with generous portions. Our family enjoyed the food and the little shop was great too

Stopped again after our annual north shore family camp. Always good. Great better than standard fare. Delicious breakfast! Great service!

Great find! Stopped by for lunch on our way up north from the Cities. We appreciated and enjoyed menu items that added local flavors on traditional dishes, such as wild rice meatloaf and their cranberry cole slaw. Their breakfast menu looks delicious too. It was also nice seeing how much the owners appreciated their staff and how loyal their employees are in return. The clean, friendly and fun atmosphere proves it. read more

Nice local food - nothing fancy but they do a really good fried walleye. Friendly service and a familiar atmosphere.

The last part of their name indicates coffee house, although it looks like a traditional, if not outdated, restaurant, with a wait to be seated sign. I didn't order food but needed my usual coffee, dark roast please. I saw the homemade looking Cranberry & Wild Rice Bread. Picking up the loaf it was heavy for bread which is a good sign. There was probably good reason they don't indicate the price as it was very expensive, even more than designer bread in the twin cities. Don't know the price exactly but the bill with a small coffee came to nearly $12. Perhaps they charge way too much for the coffee..btw they don't use insulated coffee house style cups but older style white foam cups that are hot to touch and no holding sheath, which the employee said he couldn't find so provided me with with a thick napkin..at least he didn't brush me off. Three stars is probably one star too generous but the bread was delicious it re-balances everything else. read more

the food and service was awful. It was ran by young kids and they food was not fresh and gross! We sat that the table for 30 min. as the kids working chatted. Young teenage boys did the cooking?! and not well! And it costed over 100 for 3 small basic meals. read more

Great food, nice atmosphere, but they can't take an order, get it cooked and get it to the customer. And they don't seem to look for the bottleneck and improve. Slow, slow, slow. I think things like sweet rolls, pie or ice cream may be okay if it is something that they just need to grab, if there are other people getting something that needs cooking may be a problem. read more
