Entrees were Tater tot hot dish 5 stars, Turkey sandwhich=5 stars, Lobster bisque and chicken wild rice soup. OMG the bisque was 10 stars and lastly the lobster mac and cheese. 20 stars if it's any at all. Staff was great, atmosphere was very typical and not what expected with such great menu choices. We were looking through a visitor's guide to the Brained Lakes area and noticed that this place had a ton of rewards so we decided to give this place a try. Walking in, I definitely noticed that this is much more of a local bar than grill. The seating area was pretty basic and not much to write about. Our table was slanted, either because of the floor or faulty floors and the walls could use a good repaint and refurnish. I decided to try one of their burgers because they were rated as best in the area. It was OK but nothing amazing. The patty was a little thin and hardpressed for my liking, not very easy to get a medium rare burger. The bacon was thick cut and toppings were tasty and generous. My family tried a couple pasta dishes and they were rich, creamy, and carb satisfying. My father enjoyed his prime rib dinner. The thing that really surprised me was my son's fish and chips. The cod was very good, an up north traditional nice thin black pepper seasoned beer batter. The piece of fish was very meaty and flaky. We also noticed a couple other dishes that looked appetizing. The walleye looked great and the jumbo pretzel was huge! Is it the best place in Brained to grab dinner or a burger like the tour magazine quoted? I would disagree but I cannot deny they have a great following, the place was lively and busy. We had food delivered as we were driving through and there were several things that lead to this just being disappointing. The food was delivered to a hotel and we weren't given any utensils. The hotel we are in serves no food so my wife basically had to use fingers for a grilled chicken dinner, potatoes, and a side salad. I ordered an appetizer of Dunmire's Chips. It's $12.99 and says that it's their chips smothered in a house made sauce that uses 5 cheeses, smothered in salsa and Jalapeños. What I received was a box of potato chips with some strange, red sauce that I originally thought was ketchup. After trying it, I still don't know what it was. I also got a Cuban sandwich that consisted of dry pork, pickle slices to the side, and some cheese. It wasn't the worst Cuban I've ever had, but for $13.99, it'd really be nice if it was at least good. read more

I recently moved to the area. Tried Dunmires for the first time. I ordered a spinach dip for an appetizer. The cheese was clumped together on the top and crunchy. The rest of the dip didn't have much flavor. I also ordered the smallest prime rib. It was a little fattier than I would have hoped for but was still good. The reason why I won't be excited to go back is the service. I sat at the bar to eat. I felt like I had to flag down the bartender if I wanted anything, like to order or check out, even though she was checking on the guests right next to me. I felt like a burden for her.. I am a former server so I'm usually pretty tolerant but definitely felt ignored tonight. read more

We always try to do lunch at a place we've never tried. This past Sunday we were pleased with our choice of Dunmires just outside of Brainerd. Clean and pleasant atmosphere. Great choices of domestic, craft beers, and hard apple cider. Lots of choices on tap. Our server was cheerful and attentive. She suggested the nachos which were amazing. Our meals were all very tasty. The prices are a little on the higher side. We would recommend checking it out. read more

I have eaten here for the couple years. I have always gotten great food. I was just talked into $27 shrimp tacos. The serving size was two tacos, with only three shrimp total. I also got tots which where completely soggy. Please don't serve me shitty food that is completely over priced and try and tell me it's because of inflation. $3 to go coke! What a joke. If you are struggling financially, don't go. For four adults we spent 94 dollars and we didn't pick the ribs or walleye. Try 16 dollars for a BLT and barely seasoned chips. The sandwich smacked but sole of the chips were soggy from being undercooked. The service was decent, the First Lady didn't read off the specials but that's not a big deal, we were all done with food and drinks for about 5-10 minutes before our second waitress came to offer the check however she did check up on us and was very sweet in general. The feel is very rich white golfer vibe. I am not sure I would go back to break the bank for something i could cook at home for half the price. I had made a reservation the night before by email, y to get replied back the next morning letting me know I would have my time for 2 and looking forward to serving us!!! Wow!! We had our table right as you walked in : my name on a little chalkboard! Neat! We could watch all people coming in, the bar and we had a nice heater right below us!!! This place was worth it! We ordered to go food and it was fantastic. The online ordering was easy. The staff was so great. They gave us to go waters and silverware as we were planning to eat in the car. We ordered the bacon ranch Mac and cheese which was amazing and Chris' wings which were also awesome. I placed an online order. I arrived a couple of minutes before the "ready for pickup time". I was immediately greeted and I gave them the name for the takeout order. They said it would be a few minutes. No big deal. I sat patiently. 10 mins later an employee approached me and said they "just got the order". I was pleasant and said I would wait.. 30 min later, still no order. I know most restaurants are short of help but I could see at least 10 employees running around and the place was not that busy. Had lunch here today. There were 4 in our party. One requested an upgrade from standard chips to onion rings at an additional charge of $2.99. Hers was the last meal to be brought to our table at which time she was told her onion rings fell on the floor and they had no more. My lunch guest expressed how much she was looking forward to having onion rings. The staff person offered another of their menu choices and, not excitedly, my guest opted for fries. I paid for our table with a card. When I got home and looked at the itemized till receipt they left the up charge for onion rings on my bill at $2.99. I went online and viewed the menus and fries are an up charge of $2.00. I worked hospitality food service for 13 years and believe the forced change to fries should have been comped completely and the charge for onion rings definitely removed from the bill - they dropped them and had no more to offer. I will not return to squabble over the difference. In fact, I may not return at all. read more

Tap beer selection good. ordered fried pickles for an appetizer-taste was there but way over seasoned. Also ordered the chicken carbonara sandwich ( marked as "favorite" on the menu) and a Buffalo chicken wing sandwich- both were disappointing. The torta rolls were a oft and under baked (better if it had been toasted). I knew I was in trouble when the chicken breast was not cut, but exactly formed in a square to match the bun- highly processed, machined chicken that was tasteless and rubbery. The yellow stain on the inside of the bun suggested melted butter, but the taste also suggested a butter like" food product. Ordered the fries ( what's with burgers and sandwiches coming with chips when paying 11-15 a sandwich and having to pay for fries?! Is that north woods thing?) the fries were not fries but boat shaped potatoes wedges that weren't crispy as you expect fries to be, that were again over seasoned with the same seasoning used for the pickles ( I imagined at this point that the seasoning must be delivered in pallets weekly). The grime and food ground into the industrial carpeting with food scraps and silverware randomly strewn on the floor makes me also wonder about the kitchen hygiene. Nonetheless, our server was attentive and personable- the highlight of our dining experience. I can cross this one off my list of local places I've been to, but will not return. read more

Our server, Richie, was amazing with our large group and the other multiple tables he was handling with skill and personality!! Our first experience a a rude person answering the phone. We like to give people the benefit of the doubt-maybe she was very busy and went through with placing our order. We ordered the bacon jam burger with fries and the northern woods burger with home made chips that we were really looking forward to trying. The food was fast to get done, and still hot by the time we returned home. So many things wrong though. The bacon used was not crispy it was fatty and in my opinion inedible. The homemade BBQ sauce had no flavor, and the chips were bland as well. I felt this was overpriced as our meal for 2 burgers came to almost $40 with no extras or appetizers.
