Attentive and quick service, incredible lunch pricing, tasty food--it was a great deal for a spur of the moment late lunch. We shared a Hana roll and their famed Monkey roll, then each got our own salmon teriyaki. The salmon skin was well rendered and crispy, full of flavor. The veggies were fresh, abundant, and flavorful. We can see why the monkey roll is so popular! The Hana roll with the fried green onions was incredible. It's a quiet restaurant but had good traffic even in the late afternoon.

The staff helped us get seated right away by the window, and the food was delicious and affordable. We loved the sushi and the tempura!

(Overall: 58% | F) - I ordered the Sushi Combination which came with a wide array of items, most of which has notable flaws. The shu mai is bland and frozen, the tuna roll does not taste fresh, the miso soup is too salty, and the noodles need flavor. The salad is reasonably flavored, but the salmon and underlying veggies were surprisingly well cooked. In addition to the poor food, I found the server that interacted with me to be in a particularly visibly unhappy mood and the restaurant itself was riddled with flies, making the overall experience unredeemable. Excellent and authentic Japanese food! This should be #MichelinStar rated restaurant. Try their monster salad, their sushi and lobster ramen are all superb. Plus our server Paul was outstanding. I would give them 10-stars! Domo Arigato Paul & Kouru San.

I went back here a while ago for dinner. This place as per usual was quite crowded and the prior time I had gone here, I actually couldn't get a seat as there was a small line out the door. It's not like this place is tiny but it's popular among the locals. I got green tea as per usual though they do have some beers on the menu. The staff was friendly as per usual. I went with the Dinner Bento Box which is around $21 or so. It comes with your choice of two options along with Miso Soup, Shumai, House Noodles, and a Green Salad. Among the options which includes mixed sashimi and sushi, they uniquely have Ahi Tuna Teriyaki and I went with that along with the Grilled Beef Scallion Roll AKA Beef Negimaki. The tuna was legitimately delicious being buttery and tender and I would honestly go back here just to get this again as a solo plate as you can order this alone which comes with your choice of rice or noodles. The bland vegetables below aren't exactly needed but whatever as it's extra things to dip in the teriyaki sauce. The beef scallion was pretty much the usual outside of it being slightly better quality than the average Japanese spot which is expected with the high ratings and everything. The rest of the dish was okay outside of the particularly good miso soup. The miso soup came with some salmon in it which was unique and quite tasty. The two shumai were very likely frozen and the salad had the same generic ginger based dressing you typically find in Japanese spots. The noodles also needed a bit more flavor. There was plenty of them but I think adding a bit of sesame oil would help a lot as the texture is decent enough. If the rest of the dish was as good as the tuna, I likely would be updating this spot to 5 but I'll maintain the 4. The prices are still very reasonable for the quality as well.

Iron Chef House could be one of the best values for sushi in Brooklyn. Portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. I love ordering their sushi by the piece (tuna and yellowtail are my fav) and they've always tasted fresh. Their rolls are on the larger side, and they are filled with a lot of protein and wrapped in a lot of rice. But the best part about Iron Chef House? The lobster ramen. It is sooo delicious. The broth is amazing and it comes with a huge amount of lobster. Normally this is something I would never order at a neighborhood sushi restaurant, but I'm SO happy I did. Best $18 dish in Brooklyn Heights!

    Nabeyaki Udon
    Gary K.

A nabeyaki udon is one of those Japanese dishes that looks simple and easy, but is actually fiendishly difficult to get right. First, the broth. It must first taste clear and bright, developing complexity as you consume the bowl. Hence, the best restaurants like this one serve it scaldingly hot in a hot earthenware bowl. As it came from the kitchen, the broth was elegant and complex, with notes of all the seafood ingredients being used. I could taste the mussels, and scallops, and squid, and kanikama (Japanese imitation crab sticks). None stood up, but each present and supporting the starchiness of the udon noodles. As I progressed through the dish, because of how hot the dish was served, some of the starch from the noodles mixed with the broth to increase the unctuousness of the broth... until by the end, the bowl was cool enough for me to pick up to down every drop.

Delicious food! Tiny restaurant, so if it's busy it's pretty packed. Server was great, would happily go back

Iron Chef House's venue isn't all that big, so plan accordingly by making reservations whenever possible. The space is very attractive, inviting, and clean, with some of truly exceptional service - especially given the somewhat out-of-the-way location. During our visit here, the staffers were not only attentive, but they were also very friendly and welcoming :-) Everything we tried here was not only tasty, but beautifully presented.  Portion sizes aren't so large that you need to order less food, but big enough that you won't go home hungry.

Reservations become available 14 days in advance on Resy, so I'd highly recommend booking early to secure a table during normal eating hours. Sadly, since it was just the two of us, we couldn't sample as much of the menu as we wanted. Our server recommended a hot appetizer and a fancier option from their Summer Special menu: KARAAGE - 14 Each order came with five thick pieces of chicken karaage. The chicken arrived hot and juicy, seasoned well enough to be enjoyed on its own or dipped in the side of shichimi mayo. This was a great appetizer to share, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a reliable classic. TEMAKI SET - 95 Served in roughly an 8"x8" wooden box, this set was lavishly topped toro, Hokkaido uni, ikura, and possibly Iberian ham, with crispt nori sheets on the side to make DIY handrolls. After scooping a bit of everything into a little wrap, I was greeted with the most intense, fresh sea flavors. The toro and Iberian ham were fatty and buttery, blending seamlessly with the velvety smooth uni and the fresh, bursting pops of ikura. I had to pause after every bite just to deeply savor it, and I lost count of how many times I said, "Wow, this is so good." Since I don't live in NYC, I generally avoid repeating restaurants even if I enjoyed them. However, Ozakaya is an exception to this rule -- it's easily one of the best meals I've eaten during all my recent visits. I don't know where they source their seafood, but it's incredibly fresh and packed with umami. Even days after, I'm still thinking about the velvety sweetness of that uni, and I can't wait for my next visit.

It's been open for a few years, so clearly it has a good enough formula to keep the neighborhood happy. I have been here once before, but returned last week after dining several meals at Tomoni in Jackson Heights. Apparently, the owners are friends. Nonetheless, I needed to make the comparison. After my first few bites of their Tora Don and Chirashi Don, it was clear that this restaurant has the better quality seafood. Each slice of sashimi had vibrant colors, clean taste, and the proper texture. Tomoni is not bad, but fall slightly short of this caliber. With that said, there is an even farther gap between their rice quality. Though Tora is very good, Tomoni produces nearly perfect texture and acidity for my taste buds. Other than the best omakase restaurants in NYC, Tomoni shines as one of the best versions of sushi rice in the five boroughs. Service is good and space is cute. If I have a craving for some decent Japanese food, I would drive 20 minutes here for a meal anytime.

While wandering through Bed-Stuy on a weekday evening, my husband and I decided to try out this new…read moresushi spot. It wasn't terrible--but I had a lot of mixed feelings. Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

We started with the salmon belly carpaccio which I'd say isn't really a carpaccio because the salmon isn't sliced as thinly as you'd expect. But! I mention that just to set expectations. Nomenclature aside, it's an excellent appetizer. Served in a truffle and ponzu sauce, the salmon is lightly seared which yields two different textures to the fish. It practically melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this dish. For my entree I went with the trio don, which is 6 pieces of sashimi served over your choice of plain or sushi rice (sushi rice for me). The fish was fresh and flavorful. The portion was perfect for me. My boyfriend ordered a yellowtail roll and enjoyed that as well. We also shared a carafe of the cold house sake. I'd definitely come back and try more items on the menu. It's great for sharing and trying new dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable.
