For example both times I wasn't sure if I was allowed to just leave the room or what, they could say "you can go to the front desk whenever you're ready" or whatever, but honestly it seems like they are in such a hurry to go do whatever they need to do they mumble really fast and I'm unsure of what's expected of me. Otherwise I'm impressed. You fill out a form similar to what you do at a doctor's office, and unlike what seemingly happens I go to a normal doctor, I'm impressed because they actually consult that form both at the start and upon returning for subsequent visit, so the new therapist knows what is going on with me in advance. I'm similarly impressed with the attention to your dignity. The therapist will not see more of your body than what is necessary thanks to their mindful wrapping of your body with blankets during certain types of massages. If they're working on your leg, they only see your leg and so on. I'm surprised at how well I react to these students' work, very well done. I've only ever been to these 'chinatown' massage places and every time you just don't feel right. My body would feel awful or sore, or just you don't feel anything is really being done. Here they seem methodical and professional like they clearly know what they are doing do your body. I actually feel better, for weeks my pain will be gone and my creaky old body feels 10 years younger.

There are no frills here - no robes, no slippers, no doors (there are drywall partitions and curtains for privacy). What is here is a group of very nice, very attentive massage "therapists" who bring a passion and expertise to kneading out knots of tension. I use massage as part of a pain management plan. I generally go about 2-3 times a month especially during the coldest months of winter, an expense that would be painful to manage at traditional spa rates. Thankfully I've found two no frills massage spots that practice traditional Asian bodywork and I couldn't be happier. ZSS is my go to spot in Brooklyn - it's a little less nice than my favorite midtown spot, but the prices are right, the staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable, and the facilities are clean. Manage you're expectations and skip it entirely if you're into frills (no need to talk about your disappointment if you know from the jump this isn't the atmosphere you're looking for).

After the first session with her it was obvious to me that there are levels to massage therapy, and that Georgette is a top tier masseuse. The best in my opinion, and I have had a few therapists over the years. I appreciate her availability outside of our sessions, and her willingness to help. She noticed I had shoulder mobility issues and the next day she provided me with information on how to fix the problem. It is obvious that she loves what she does, and that energy and enthusiasm shows in her work. She is a 12 out of 10 for me.

I had previously tried everything from physical therapy to acupuncture and nothing came close to the relief and understanding I received from Georgette. This was true after my very first appointment and remains true a year later. She is kind, patient, intuitive, extremely passionate about what she does -- and, of course, very good at it. Her studio is welcoming and charming, an amazing little oasis parked on the outskirts of Greenpoint. When you walk in you will be greeted by the lovely aroma of essential oils, dim lighting, and Georgette's unbelievably welcoming nature. If you are in need of some body work, do not look any further. Honestly, I think she may be single-handedly redefining the meaning of bodywork, and you'll just need to experience it for yourself to see what I mean. Go see Georgette and you will leave with a renewed sense of hope about what is possible for your body and -- though I risk sounding a little dramatic -- your life.
