John takes good care of my nails (gel manicure and pedicure). He is kind, respectful, & has a great sense of humor. Wendy does my eyebrows and it's perfect every time! During the summer months I like to wear designs so Diane has been doing my nails. Her technique is great and she's honest with what she can and can't do which I appreciate. I remembered watching the old building on Railroad Avenue being transformed into a hair salon disguised as a beautiful Victorian house. So when I needed to get a haircut for some occasion I tried 40 One East Salon & Spa. This was a good four or five years ago and I've been going there exclusively ever since. I was there today, every stylist I've had has always listened to what I wanted done...or maybe more important what I didn't want done. When I sat down she asked what we were doing today, the first thing out of my mouth is that I didn't want to look like my father. And she understood. I kid with them that they'll never get rich off of me, I only get my hair cut twice a year. But you know, I'm always made to feel welcome and that they are happy to see me. I still hate getting my hair cut but I certainly don't mind visiting 40 One Salon!

It lovely to be taken care of in such an attractive place. I loved the bay windows and the space the gigantic floor plan allowed the operators to spread out. There's nobody on either side of you which makes for an enjoyably serene experience. Jill cut, colored and blew out my very thick hair. It's not easy to manage my mop but she figured out how to do it plus the coloring job was absolutely terrific. I will definitely go back. In fact, had it not been for their Groupon Promotion I may not have gone there at all. But now I'm happy and I look 10 years younger than when I walked into those purple doors. However, today was one of the most unprofessional, disappointing, and worst nail experiences ever. I don't think I will ever return to this salon. They rushed the nails entirely. The receptionist was extremely rude and unprofessional. The nail techs did ok, but one nail tech was unsanitary and didn't wear a mask or gloves although she was sick and left multiple times in the middle of doing my friend's nails. Both of us work in medical fields so we are not strangers to diseases but if she was unwell, as a professional who is doing a service you kindly say " sorry im not well, please let me have a coworker finish for you" and go to break room or go home or "sorry im a bit unwell, I will need to take a few breaks and wear a MASK and gloves!" As a customer in the middle of getting a service, I should not have to get up and go to management and say your staff is unwell, can someone help her and me? They should check on their staff if they notice these issues. Also the other tech doing my nails was so busy in her gossip she used the wrong top coat , and my right index nail ended up so chunky looking. Even after all this, we didn't mind and were not upset with the service because we are understanding, until at payment the receptionist not only raised her voice and then blamed us for two people waiting in chairs cancelling their appointments because they saw the ill tech and didn't want to get their nails done there. All we did was ask verbatim "hi, is there anything you can offer for the inconvenience of the experience?" The lady not only repeated it twice very loudly for everyone in salon to hear but with such a rude attitude. It was disgusting behavior. All she had to say " Unfortunately, we are unable to at this time" THE END. We paid and left, knowing and overhearing them talk about "how dare they even ask the question" This is so rude and unprofessional. On top of that, she added "we cant control when someone is sick, we lost 2 other customers waiting because they saw the other nail tech sick." After 5 years of getting our nails done here, today was our last day we ever recommend this location or ever come back. The people are not courteous, friendly, or welcoming. Being kind is free. Giving attitude and being rude as a receptionist and first person customers meet is unprofessional. The nail techs this time were Jenny and Hailey. Do not know the receptionist's name. Also, the same nail with the wrong top coat already peeled in 1 DAY.

I've been to nail salons my whole life and have never experienced an issue like this. She did things so quick and rough that were so painful. I've honestly never experienced anything close to that level of pain during filing/cutting. I work with patients and, in medicine, that level of carelessness/roughness would be considered abusive. She spent 30 mins rushing through a full gel set w/ tips while ranting about the fact that my nails are too short (yes, stress, but please don't make me feel worse). After she finished the set and told me to pick a color, I said I'd "paint them at home" because they were so uneven. The other patrons were watching the interaction with puzzled/concerned looks and the staff didn't do anything to intervene. I'm just completely shocked.
