What caught my eye for IQ? 90 - 5 STAR ratings! WOW! I bought a pre-owned Range Rover from a BMW dealer with a 60 day warranty. I heard a "clunk" sound when I slowed down. BMW said "it's normal". Intuition said how can it be? I called Jeff at IQ and he said bring it in. We test drove it. He put it on the rack and showed me the loose front differential. He sent BMW his findings. BMW will do the repair but Jeff now has me as a "lifer" customer. Why? He took the time and explained and showed everything to me. His diagnostic charge was also 40% cheaper than Land Rover. I HIGHLY recommend IQ Autoworks in Campbell, Ca. They have work on my car and I must say they are honest, dependable, reasonable and nice. I recently took it in because of a noise that turned out to be something rolling around in the trunk (duh!). My clutch was making an odd noise, so I called around to see how much it would cost to get it replaced. Jeff at IQ autoworks was within a few bucks of the cheapest price. But what really impressed me was how quickly he diagnosed not only the problem (busted clutch), but the root cause, a leaky fuel valve that dripped into the clutch. Jeff took photos of the repair and walked me through them along with the actual busted parts to show me exactly what was wrong with the car. My old man told me once, "son, make sure you know a good mechanic before you know your wife." Who would have thought, the man was right. Jon at IQ Autoworks would be that mechanic. I've brought two separate vehicles to IQ and have had exceptional service both times. The first car I brought in was my 1999 Ford Explorer to have the brakes replaced along with my check engine light diagnosed. When I arrived for my appointment Jon was right there ready to help, and I wasn't the only one he was tending to, he was helping 4 other people as well without skipping a beat. He told me what needed to be done within minutes of arriving and I picked my car up later that same day. The price was very reasonable and I really wouldn't have minded paying more since the service was so good. I later brought in my 2003 BMW for brakes again. I took VTA to get back home in downtown SJ and before I had even finished the bus ride home, Jon called me to say the work was complete. Maybe it wasn't a busy day, but dang that was fast!! My car broke down on the freeway, so i had it towed .. originally, I was going to go to Union Auto Care (per a friend's rec) but the tow guy (JJ from AAA) recommended IQ Autoworks. I was so desperate to just get my car fixed and running again, so i just followed him to IQ Autoworks. Jeff is the guy who runs IQ, and he took my car right away. He was super busy, but he said he would look at my car and call me as soon as he knew what needed repair. Jeff called me 2 days later (on Monday), and told me I needed a new engine. He quoted me $2500 and said i could have my car picked up latest by Thursday. I'm happy to say that he had my car fixed a day early, and he even refilled my oil (& did some other stuff to ensure my car was back in order -- he even admitted it was for his sake (liability reasons)) Jeff also recommended I come back so he could monitor my oil (i have yet to go back and get that done!) I recommend Jeff and his crew ... the shop is pretty clean (a nice surprise!) and i even used their bathroom (which was really clean ... another pleasant surprise!!) Check out IQ Autoworks ... This is the most outstanding repair shop. I've not met or been to a repair shop that is as skilled, honest or competent as Jeff and his team is by a long shot. I bought a Toyota MR2 with a rare SMT transmission that immediately started having problems. Toyota dealerships don't know how to work on these as neither do many shops and after browsing the forums more I found out how many complications this SMT trans can have. At this point, I either repair it or sell it at a loss. I was worried a shop was going to string me along with repairs as I'd seen some nightmare posts on forums about this other owners had. I took it to Jeff to see what I should do and ended up doing a rebuild rather than selling it at a loss. Jeff did a rebuild with new parts and actually rebuilt the HPU himself which is a costly replacement part from Toyota (that not even Toyota techs know how to repair) rather than advising me to buy a new one like a dealer or most other shops would. I can tell Jeff and his team truly understand the complex engineering and mechanics that go into repairing parts and not just replacing parts and that's what stands out to me. Jeff was working on New Year's Day (a big plus). I had just experienced some problems with my car and didn't know exactly what was wrong. Long story short, it had been far too long since my last oil change, and he was able to relatively quickly diagnose as a lack of oil (I was down to 0.75 quarts. yikes.) Along with my poor oil change history, I was also overdue for a timing belt (as several folks had told me before). Jeff was able to do the belt, water pump, coolant flush, new front brake pads, oil change, and a second oil change (as he was not able to buy a filter on New Year's Day, but needed to add oil to make the car safe to test drive) for just about what my second-cheapest-previous-option was going to charge for just the timing belt. Caveats: I have a Subaru, and Jeff is clearly not a super-expert in this particular type of car, as he was not immediately aware it was AWD (all Subarus are AWD, in case you aren't a super-expert either). That said, I feel his overall knowledge is good, and for most things you aren't going to need someone who only works on X brand. Also, I went to his home base in Campbell, so I have no experience with the 'at your location' service. I'll edit this review if it turns out anything went seriously wrong, but so far I'm a fan for availability, cost, friendliness, and general knowledge. read more

You all know the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover". Fleet Tech fits that to a "T". Jeff and Roberto are the contents of the book. Credibility and integrity in the highest order. Brought my wife's 1991 Honda Accord EX with 318, 500+ miles on the odometer to him because it did not pass the smog test. After diagnosing the cause for the smog failure (done by a different mechanic 2 years ago and NO LONGER in business - hmmmmm???), Jeff and Roberto were very upfront with what they found and what was needed to make it right; so that it would pass the smog test (which it ultimately did). Seeing the results of their credible workmanship, I had Fleet Tech also do the timing belt, new water pump, motor mounts, etc. - all the things I knew were due for maintenance. Not once did Jeff ever push any repair issues. The prices charged for the work performed were exceptionally fair. There are so many "Kudos'" and accolades for Fleet Tech, that, suffice it to say - they are my permanent future repair facility and are highly recommended. I am completely satisfied with the front brake rotor and pad replacement service I received on Wednesday, 9/14/11, by Jeff Rooney, the owner of iQ Autoworks. Jeff also solved a tricky parking brake problem that occurred during a rear brake self-inspection at home. At no charge, Jeff also performed an overall inspection, reporting what I felt to be an honest assessment of issues ranging from should-be-addressed-within-the-next-few-months to keeping-an-eye-on lesser concerns. He was able to get my car in the day after talking on the phone, and completed the work by that afternoon. After doing general component and labor-rate cost comparisons, I feel that I received excellent value and am happily driving a smoothly braking Lexus machine. read more

I'm very happy with my experience at IQ Auto. I'd been putting off some repairs to my 4Runner for some time because I just wasn't happy with the other shops I had taken it to. I had the check engine light on and had been pulling different codes related to air/fuel sensors and my catalytic convertors. I'd been given repairs prices ranging from several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars and didn't know who to believe or to trust. I decided to take my truck to IQ Auto for some basic maintenance repairs after talking to Jeff and getting a good price quote from him. Our conversation on the phone made me feel like he knew what he was doing, I knew that he was going to use quality parts and not just the cheapest ones to save me a buck, and I figured that I would try them out for those repairs (timing belt, other belts, water pump). Of course, they found the check engine light on and prompltly called me about that. Jeff was able to explain the codes he found in a much clearer manner than anyone before had been able to do. He was confident that the sensors were all that needed to be replaced and not my entire catalytic converter system. I had done plenty of research on this before, but had been told by another shop that if I replaced the sensors and not the cat, the sensors could fail again and I would have to pay for them twice. Jeff assured me that the work he did would be warrantied for a year, so no, I would not have to worry about paying for them twice. I agreed to let them do the work. So happy I did! The sensors were indeed the problem and my check engine lights have remained off since. I only spent a few hundreds dollars instead of forking over thousands for unneccessary repairs. I got all my repairs done in just one day. Plus, they even changed my oil too (which I was going to do this weekend, but now I'm all set!) I've been looking for a good shop that I can trust with my beloved 4Runner for a few years now - and have finally found one. All in all, a great experience and I highly recommend them! read more

Just had my first experience at IQ. I submitted an appointment request online and got a phone call within two hours of submission. I thought I would have to wait at least a week to get in but when I called back, Jeff told me to bring my car in that night and they would fix it the next morning. The next morning I got a call at 9:30 outlining what needed to be done. Once I gave consent, Jeff had three people work on my car and it was done by noon. When the car was done I had no way of getting there so they picked me up at home. Once we were at IQ Jeff walked me through all of the repairs and showed me all the old rusty parts. I would definitely recommend IQ to anyone needing repairs on their car (especially if you want a second opinion on dealership recommended repairs). Jeff knows his stuff and is definitely customer oriented. He gets to the root causes of the problems rather than doing bandaid repairs and makes sure you understand the repairs that need to be done and why they need to be done. Great experience all around! My car broke down heading through highway 17 on my way to Santa Cruz, and my tow truck driver recommended I go to IQ. When I arrived at IQ I walked inside to the office and was greeted extremely friendly by John. I explained the situation to him and he told me he could handle it easy. We walked over to the car and he popped the hood and looked around and immediately addressed the problem. I live about an hour away from Campbell, to which John said he would try to have me back on the road in 4 hours. I was stranded in San Jose. My alternator went out and I was stuck. Tow truck driver recommended that I go to IQ Autoworks (Jeff Rooney). Tow truck driver said that he heard good things from people about this mechanic (Jeff Rooney), so I said let's do it. I asked if the mechanic had a "loaner" car available because I really needed one, had a crazy busy day at work, needed to go to various meetings, etc. He said he had a loaner car available for me. Anyway, I got there and we discussed what needed to get done. It just so happens that I had my car serviced at a dealer a few months back. They recommended that I get my timing belt water belt replaced. I didn't do it back then, but I asked Jeff if this is something he could do. He said he could. Also, the "loaner" car that he said was available needed to be tuned up and didn't want to give it to me. Instead, Jeff did something better. He loaned me his personal car! That shows trust. I'll never forget him for that. He earned a very loyal customer in me by loaning his personal transportation. I was in a bind and he bailed me out when he didn't need to. I'm not saying this will happen for all customers, but again....I'll never forget what he did for me. In any event, they took my car in and replaced everything all in the same day. They replaced my alternator, timing belt and water pump. I rarely give out Yelp reviews, but Jeff deserved a Yelp. Again, he has earned a very loyal customer in me. IQ Autoworks is the best auto shop in the area. My wife told me many lights went on in her car's dashboard before I rushed out to work. I told her to send her car to IQ Autoworks as I used this auto shop for oil changes and other repair before they moved to this new location. They did decent jobs and never rip customers off. I thought my wife might not be able to drive the car today. To my surprise, my wife called me when I was still on the train to work to let me know that the car was checked and ready to go! The lights went off was due to low engine oil. They topped off the engine oil and inflated tires to right pressures. Everything was back to normal. The best of all was they did all these for free. I first went to IQ autoworks after my car had broken down. i was referred to IQ autoworks by a buddy of mine. i was hesitant at first because of my loyalty to my mechanic in my hometown but i found that i now have a new mechanic. WOw. . I could not have been happier with the service, speed and pure honesty that I recieved from this shop. I have been dealing with an issue on my volvo for a year that no one could seem to fix and it was driving me crazy and preventing me from smogging it. I Had been to mulitple volvo shops and even the dealer and every time they diagnosed it to be something else repaired it and then it would come right back after about a week. I was about to give up and sell the car but I didnt want to let my baby go or make someone else deal with it. I dropped the car off at 8 am right when they opened and talked to Jeff (the owner) He said he would figure it out for sure and that he had seen other problems just like mine and he was very confident that he could take care of it rather quickly. So later that day about 3 pm he called me and told me that the throttle body was bad causing the vehicle to die occasionally and limp mode to set in. They replaced the throttle body and told me I was good on that front. He sent me pictures of my brake pads and rotors to show me how bad they were, they saw them while doing the free inspection of the whole car which was a total bonus. He gave me a very fair price to fix everything and I left paying even a couple dollars less than he qouted that very same day. If you are looking for an honest, no fuss mechanic, this is the place to go! I took my car in to get the brake pads replaced. I was charged $140.00 and all of the other places I called charged between $150-$180.00. I.Q AutoWorks was friendly, knowledgeable, straight to the point, and informed me that they could install new brake pads within an hour. I was very impressed with the high quality customer service I received, but I was even more impressed when they actually took only one hour to complete the job! I would highly recommend I.Q. Just like everyone else on here, I am pleased to give this place a wonderful rating. Jeff (the owner) is a great, intelligent guy who truly knows exactly what he's doing and cares for his clients. Before he inspected my 4WD1994 Toyota 4Runner, he greeted me warmly and provided excellent customer service. His positive attitude made me feel comfortable leaving my car with him before he even inspected it (I was in a big hurry to get to work) and i fully trusted him to be honest, thorough, and not try to cheat and scam me (like most other auto places I've been to!) Oh, and I also just walked in without an appointment and he was able to see me without any wait. I needed to get my break pads changed because they were squealing REALLY loudly and I felt unsafe driving around. Shortly after I dropped off my car, Jon (one of the technicians) called me to inform me that my routers also needed replacement and they were completely worn out...because I am a chick and do not know much about cars Jon took the time to clearly explain to me why I needed this done and how much it would cost. By the way, I paid under $400 for all this, when my old mechanic told me it would be $400 just to change the break pads! I am glad I came to Fleet Tech because they treated me like family and I honestly feel like they gave me the be$t deal! I will definitely come back here again for all my auto repair needs and have already encouraged my parents and some friends to come here to fix their cars. I just moved to the area and after I had a tire blow out Thursday afternoon, I needed to get a new set of tires, badly, especially before Labor Day weekend. Every place I called didn't have time and couldn't have cared less. I was shocked, didn't anyone want my business?! Back East, I could go to a tire and auto repair place without an appointment and be helped right away. Not here. But when I called IQ Autoworks, Jeff and his team were the only ones of the 8-10 places I called that said, we're booked solid with appointments, but bring it in, we'll order whatever tires you need and get it done. They took my shredded tire to match, ordered my new tires, called me the next day as soon as they got in and got me taken care of despite having a full load of appointments before a holiday weekend. They also made sure my kids had Netflix kids' movies playing in the waiting room while we waited, so they were entertained. The guys were so nice and I couldn't be happier.
