The portions are definitely generous and not what you expect from a traditional Michelin restaurant so once we got the main we were super full but the food was so delicious we kept eating. My sister ordered the beets and I ordered the golden egg and both were delicious. The next starters were the Caesar salad and the scarlet shrimp with sprouts. All the dishes were delicious with amazing texture and taste. My favorite from the starters were the shrimp with the apple giving it some freshness and sweetness. For mains we got the sirloin and the seafood rice. The sirloin was perfect cooked (I got medium well and it was still soft and delicious which not all places execute well) The seafood rice was delicious, it was a little shocking how the ash changed the taste from the rice from fishy to not fishy too. For desserts we got the Mandarin and the chocolate cake. The chocolate had pop rocks and crunchy caramel that gave it such a fun texture while eating. We were led inside the restaurant and were first guided to the kitchen area where we got to meet all the kitchen staff and learned where each items were made in. It was quite the lovely experience. The food presentation was beautiful and well put together. Our server was respectful and knowledgeable. He mentioned that in their restaurant, if we needed to use the restroom, that we just make sure one of us is still at the table/that we take turns going. Their bathrooms were clean and well stocked with necessities too. Each presentation came with a cute card about the dish. We got to keep the cards in the end as well! There were so many dishes, we didn't know when it would end! We got so full in the end so be prepared to be stuff! We weren't hungry for almost the whole day after. The sleeve part was a nice touch to the experience and the background to that was that people use their sleeves to wipe off spills around their mouths and they wanted to bring that tradition back. It's true! Overall we'd highly recommend this place to others! Each dish was made with care and careful planning. What a wonderful experience!

As for our main courses we ordered the Codfish, Crispy, Suckling Pig, Beef Tornedo and the Slow Cooked Mid Rib, all of which was incredibly delicious and we were vey impressed with each of their presentation. You can (and should) also add on the "chef's surprises" and then you have your own tasting menu. The service was great while being non-intrusive. It's a more casual and warm vibe than a lot of other more traditional fine dining experiences. Think warm and cozy dining room, no white linens, somewhat open kitchen in the corner. The food was of course the star. It was truly exceptional, as expected. The suckling pig was probably my favorite dish but the tenderloin was also a highlight. In fact, though I've nearly explored Lisbon to my heart's content, I would consider returning just to dine here again. For this visit, we opted for the à la carte menu and added the bread service and Chef's Surprises (€15)--an absolute must. The bread was accompanied by a uniquely nutty olive oil (so good I hunted it down at the market to bring home) and a deeply smoked butter that was truly out of this world. I won't spoil the "moments" and Chef's surprises that were sprinkled throughout the meal but they added an element of delight and anticipation throughout the night, with each one memorable and mouthwatering in their own special way. Alma's cocktail menu is uniquely rooted in Portuguese ingredients, but what impressed me even more was their thoughtful mocktail selection, a rarity at this level of dining. I got the Soul (elderflower, lemon, cucumber and egg white) a delightfully refreshing treat that I hope to one day recreate at home, while my boyfriend got the Tamashi, a cocktail made with Amêndoa Amarga Ámen (a local almond liqueur) and Angostura bitters--a lovely, marzipan-meets-citrus drink that gave us the chance to sample local spirits. On to the entrees... since we were dining a la carte, we chose an item each from their chef's classics menu and the seafood (Costa a Costa) menu. I thought it was the perfect way to start the meal. The second dish was Alho Frances, i.e. fresh leeks along with various other root vegetables. I was in love with the puree that came with the dish, I can't remember what it was made with, but it was absolutely the star of the dish. It was one of the only dinners we had in Lisbon that was vegetable-focused which we greatly appreciated (although still included some of Portugal's famous seafood). It was a set course dinner for a very reasonable price of 35 euros. The natural wines were fantastic, and paired nicely with the food. All of the handmade ceramic dishes that the food came on were very cool. Our waitress was very helpful during the meal and even gave us recommendations for a few grocery and wine stores in town if we wanted to extend our experiance with natural wines. I would love to go back if I were ever in Lisbon again, especially to experiance their changing seasonal menu.

Unfortunately, they make them as a main dish on Friday and don't always have them on the menu. The steak St Marie was very good. It was a little odd, from a US girl's perspective, to have a fried egg on the steak covered with cheese sauce and served with both rice and french fries. But the steak was very good, Again, the seasoning was excellent. Although only in Lisbon for the week, we will be back to try some of the fish dishes.
