I don't write reviews but I had to because this office deserves to be known. I visited for the first time, not knowing what to expect since all the ratings were five stars. I think he spent the most time with me than any other optometrist. The office is small, isn't flashy, and not a prescription mill. I can safely say I got the most thorough exam ever. I've had glasses since adolescence; tens of exams over the years, and didn't know what great vision looked like. I was really impressed by the depth of Dr Nguyen's knowledge and eagerness to explain. Unlike other optometrist he had glasses with interchangeable lenses that you can put on and walk around with to see exactly how your prescription will be. It was no problem that I couldn't afford glasses right then but just wanted the prescription. There was no pressure to buy glasses. He explained what we needed to do and why. Once he saw me it was about my vision. There was no "we can see inside your eye for x more dollars using y machine". He checked out my optic nerve by actually looking at it. No up-sell on extra services like at America's Best. We talked about the contacts I currently wear and I found out that other optometrist will water down prescriptions to meet price points or push certain brands at the expense of my vision. I saw the one star review from Sue C. and can figure it out: Dr Nguyen is very social with a sense of humor (he has Star Wars posters and a light saber flanking the Snellen chart.) so I can see how it can be misinterpreted. He said some people aren't used to being engaged. I like it and I think it works at breaking the ice - communicating important info and getting people to actually follow his advice (like not wearing my contacts for 16 hours). I saw he puts the patient's best interests first. Takes Medi-Cal and most insurances. Called and they asked for my Member ID and confirmed my eligibility over the phone. Other places with high ratings flat out said no and others wanted me to come in to find out. Previous eye exams were at America's Best (1 time), Costco (4x). Skip these places, they can't compare in quality. Different league. I took my teenager and she liked the experience, got prescription and glasses. read more

I went in for an eye glasses exam. And, Dr. Nguyen was personable and informative. He made sure I was situated properly and answered all the questions I had. In addition to the exam, although he found nothing out of the ordinary, he made sure to address other small eye-related issues that I was facing. I hadn't had my vision tested for 4 years. I was looking forward to some bad news such as I was getting older so I need to take care of my eyes. Well Dr. Nguyen was easy going and great about answering any questions. After running through some preliminary tests, we went through the Sloan eye charts and he confirmed that my vision was 20/20, near perfect! One eye was slightly negative but I'll take it. Based upon what I answered in the preliminary questions(so be honest!), the doctor addressed some concerns like eye strain, dryness, and late night driving tips. I wish I could give 0 star but yelp won't let me. DO NOT COME HERE!!! How could a doctor greet a patient by YELLING at them because they did not follow up their appointment? No matter how upset you are. A doctor needs to be professional. Yelling doesn't help the situation. I had to tell Dr. Nguyen a several times to calm down and not raise his voice when he talked to me. Well, that's what happened to me. All I wanted was to get my freaking contact lens prescription. When I called to obtain a copy of my prescription, I realized my prescription wasn't never finalized. There was no follow up but money was already paid to the doctor. My previous experience with other optometrists was they would give me the prescription upon the first visit and I would ONLY needed to come back if there is other issue. I guess it's not the case for this doctor. I am okay with that. However, if a patient fails to finalize their prescription, aren't you supposed to follow up with them before charging them the full amount?!!!!!! Anyway, that's case for me. I got freaking yelled at and I am not coming back to this place. Good luck. read more

Very trusted optometry!! I have been going to Dr. Chow for Chiropractic for several years now. So, when i learned her husband, opened up his own optometry practice, i was so happy! I can come here for get my eye exam or chiropractic treatment, on the same day ! How awesome is that?!?? Also, Dr. Nguyen is very friendly, informative, caring, and thorough with exams. He informs me of what preventative care i will need to incorporate. He does not try to up sell anything to you, which is also greet too! I don't like being pressured into lying for something i don't want or need. Affordable prices and rates, plus they accept insurance ! The receptionist is also very friendly and helpful throughout the check in and exam process! I really enjoy coming here and the service i receive. I found this place through a family member. Let me tell you this, I felt really comfortable there for my visit. Dr. Nguyen makes you feel relaxed when you are starting to build anxiety not knowing what is wrong. He explains a lot and makes sure that you understand what is going on with your eye or eyes. They do expect kaiser insurance. It was very quick and professional about this visit. I can not be more thankful to have met him because I'm now excited to wear my glasses to help me out. I came back after about two years since my last check up. I can say that it was great meeting with Dr. Nguyen again and I was nicely accommodated by his optician, Jesus. He walked me through the prep work that needed to be done and I never felt uncomfortable throughout the process. I'm thankful that after today, my eyesight is still good and I even lessened the effects of my dry eye condition. I even got to learn a bit about the anatomy of the eye as Dr. Nguyen showed me the photos that were taken after my eyes were dilated as well as what one would like with glaucoma. Great place to go to get a full exam on all your eye care needs. Dr Nguyen will explain what he is doing as he is conducting the exam which allows you to know what to expect. I did not feel rushed at all during the entire appointment and he always took the time to explain his findings to me. His staff was very helpful and making an appointment was very very easy. His prices are quite reasonable as well.. Dr Nguyen also gave me free samples to help me get through a couple weeks. He also took the extra effort to help me find reasonable prices for my contact lenses, a quality rarely found among todays optometrists offices. Dr. Thai Nguyen has provided me very professional and delivered unbeatable results for my dry eye. 1.5 years ago my eye started to feel itchy and always there is sth in my eye, I cannot have problem solve with other dr, later with Dr. Thai Nguyen I started realize I have serious dry eye, and my eye is seriously near sighted (about 700 degree), 2 come together means I cannot wear contacts like before I did. so I started to see Dr Thai, and my problem is hard to treat, each time Dr will check my eye very carefully, write notes for my symptom/treatment progress for pages. He will also print me his "handout" for steps that I need to do at home, for example, using warm pad/use what eye drop at when for how many times. After a few consults, my eyes are getting better! I am able to wear contacts again! now I wear my comfortable contacts every day for as long hours as I need. (this contact is also suggested by Dr Thai according to my eye condition) recently I just re-ordered for 2nd year, I just had through check with Dr Thai for my eyes, Dr. said my eye has magically turned very well and he cannot even recognize that is my eye that he is checking! I can definitely feel the improvement, my eyes are long hour moisturized and dry eye symptom has almost gone! I highly recommend Dr Thai Nguyen if anyone need help on your eye, because he will provide you professional service to resolve your problem. read more

I'm a digital artist who went in for computer glasses/exam and came out much more informed about my eyes and the type of glasses I needed. I was ready to buy super nerd yellow computer glasses, until he educated the different types of lenses that would best fit me and what I do. He answered all of my questions, and even recommended me to a specialist doctor because he caught something (donut shaped optic nerve) that might be a problem, which I don't think I would've known if I just went to WalMart. Not once did I felt rushed by him or pressured into buying anything I didn't really need. Dr. Nguyen was very thorough with my exam, and very easy going like the previous reviewer.
