I probably wouldn't have found this little kiosk without Yelp, so I'll thank the app for helping me find them. Secondly, my initial message exchange was helpful, but life got busy and months went by until I woke up yesterday to find my screen so shattered that my selfie camera images looked like they were Fun House distortions. But I remembered the exchange and headed to the Village at Corte Madera to finally fix my screen. I started to dial the phone number and then decided I was being a wus. The Village isn't a huge place. Still, a few moments later, even though I hadn't given them time to answer, they called me back to ask whether I was trying to reach them and how they could help. They're located at the Macy's end of the shopping center, a few steps away from the Apple Store. The two islands have racks of phone cases that had been rifled through by frantic shoppers and Ethan and his colleague were both bundled in scarves and hats, given that the temperature was hovering a few degrees above freezing. This isn't to suggest they were huddled by the space heater or inactive. One was engaged with a customer while the other's hands were busy applying a new screen to a digital tablet. Ethan looked at my screen, admired my kitty cat screensaver, checked the model type and quoted me $99 and thirty minutes to fix my screen. I headed off to finish some holiday shopping and they got to work. When I returned approximately half an hour later, my new pristine screen was installed and they let me know they offer a year warranty on their work. Repaired my iPhone screen on 9/2 and a couple of weeks later I see the screen has a crack. No dropping of the phone ... screen just literally cracked. Bad glass, bad installation or both? Who knows? Bottom line is they warranty the glass "for the life of the device" and the repairs for 6 months ... "excluding physical/water damage." I took my phone in and of course the cracked screen is "physical damage" so the warranty is no good. Wow. Pretty nifty how their "warranty" works, for them. The "non warranty" is a joke, so be warned if you use this service for screen repair. Apple says the crack in my glass screen is clearly stress-related, due either to inferior materials or improper installation. Nice. There goes $109 down the drain. Needed a replacement battery or buy a new iPhone . Why spend that stupid money for a new phone when the reality or new iPhone is great except a failing battery. A great story with a great ending... My screen shattered after being run over by a car (or several of them) and the phone was unresponsive. I took the phone to Apple and they ran all kinds of tests, eventually they told me that I would have to buy a new phone as it wont even power on. I was devastated. I still had 12 payments on the thing to make... I left the store feeling broke (kinda like my phone). As I left, I passed iPlayNtalk and figured it's not going to hurt to ask if he had any second hand phones for sale... we got talking and he said this: "Let me see your phone, I will fix it and if I can't, it won't cost you a thing"... so I had nothing to lose. Within 15 minutes, he verified that the phone was responding to power, he replaced the screen and it powered on. IT WORKED! He charged a total of $140 and my phone was up and running again... I can't say how grateful I am for their service. I told him that I had just left Apple and they said that it wasn't fixable... he laughed, I laughed and it made me realize that Apple wasn't interested in fixing my phone, they're in the business of selling new ones. You find out who you are really dealing with during times of hardship. A few weeks ago I chose iPlayNtalk to replace the iPhone screen that suddenly went dark on me after one too many drops. Their price was lower than others, and they were available to fix it immediately, which of course was a priority. Two weeks later I started having some shadowing on the screen which normally would have called for a routine warranty repair. However, we were no longer in routine times, we were in Virus-land. I was sure that I was totally hosed--after all, why would I ever expect that a kiosk in an empty mall would be available to make good on their work, when everybody now has much bigger problems to worry about? And yet, ever the optimist, I tried giving them a call. Amazingly, not only did they answer, but they agreed to meet me the next day--a Sunday!--at the mall. And sure enough, there we soon found ourselves on a bleary and wet morning in an otherwise abandoned shopping mall where they expeditiously set about fixing my phone. Everything was done with gloves and cleanliness, including an alcohol wipe down before giving it back to me. And they installed an upgraded screen without charging me anything more, just to make sure the problem didn't recur. They really didn't need to do this--they could have easily pleaded "Virus!" and left me on my own. That fact that they didn't says everything about why they deserve our business and all my gratitude.
