Shrimp Rice Paper Wraps - $5.95 for 2
Jim C.

Did a quick take out order from this place. I originally wanted just 2 shrimp salad rolls or shrimp rice paper wraps as they call it here. I should have known that something was wrong when I went to pick it up and was charged $13. I thought it was normal because this place was in the Byward Market and things are sometimes priced higher. Obviously when I got back and looked more carefully, I got two orders instead of the one that I ordered. Not the biggest issue because they were eaten and shared with others. The big issue is the person taking the order didn't speak or understand English well. Anyways, I've had better shrimp rolls from the places in Chinatown.

Chicken soup egg noodles with shrimp and bbq pork

At first I was apprehensive about the name and location in byward market, but this is a legit Vietnamese restaurant in a unique and convenient setting. The chicken broth egg noodles I ordered were delicious, with the best bbq pork I have had in a pho restaurant in Ottawa. The broth was excellent and the medium more than filled me up. I love that they had three hot sauces to choose from. Highly recommended for dates due to the location and nice interior (Old English pub style).

Vietnamese coffee and wonderful bowl of beef pho, specifically rare brisket and beef. Pho-nominal.

I stumbled onto this place, and it was exactly what I was looking for; clean, family run, authentic Vietnamese food. The Vietnamese coffee was perfect, as were the fried pork spring rolls. The rare beef/brisket Phó was everything for which you could ask; adequate table salad to add onto the soup, perfect amount of noodles, savory stock, and it was served nice and(therapeutically) hot. The family that runs it was very nice, which can sometimes be hit and miss(culturally) at Vietnamese restaurants. I always search for the best Phó in every city I visit; while I have no way of knowing if this is the best in Ottawa, I can say that it was excellent. Recommended.

Great atmosphere :)

Very good pho and shrimp rice wraps. Very nice customer service. (Asked for more water and more bean sprouts) Good variety of food choice, great and peaceful ambience until the pub next door decided to blast rock music. Great place to take pho Virgins!

Pho with beef balls

Delicious pho!!!!! I ordered the pho with beef balls. I usually find a lot of places don't serve pho steaming hot (like its meant to be) and that's why I don't get the rare beef. This pho was amazing! The soup was really hot and flavorful, the portion (I ordered a medium) was generous, and I was totally in heaven! I also ordered the shrimp fresh rolls - which were terrific. And also the coconut water (good).

BBQ Pork with Udon Noodles in Chicken Broth (delicious!)

Overpriced and small portions and uncooked veggie. First time ever see uncooked Napa in my soup dish not even warm enough. Not recommended.

Authentic Vietnamese Pho House - B009 vermicelli bowl with grilled shrimp and spring roll

Authentic Vietnamese Pho House

The place was very steady but we got one of the few remaining tables. The menu has a lot on it and there is another, separate menu for specials. The complimentary herbal tea was nice and hot for a very cold day. Ordered was a pho for me, extra spicy and my friend got a beef and veg dish and they subbed her noodles for rice upon her request and accommodated her peanut allergy. The food was good, also. I ordered us shrimp spring rolls to start, 2 to an order. Very good. $6. The entrees... My broth was nice, albeit mild. Not that clovey taste I've experienced at other places. My pho had shrimp, beef and chicken. It was a house specialty so it only came in a medium size. This was fine as I ordered extra noodles for $2.50 to go and had some at home for dinner tonight. And, it will feed me for lunch one more time tomorrow. The containers were leak proof and the liquid survived the drive home. The staff were unobtrusive yet attentive and kind. Said to be family owned and that everything is homemade. I'll return! I love Vietnamese food and love supporting these places. I will avoid weekends though as I was told people are lined up at the door for seating. Was it the best I have ever had? No but it fit the bill and I'm glad I live close by as there are 100 other dishes I'd like to try.

Found this place on Yelp and a good star rating and I was happy with the results. It's located at a large strip mall quite a ways away in Barrhaven - hence the name. Grabbed takeout at 8:15pm and it was good. Got 2 orders of spring rolls which were still very crispy when we got back from the 20 min drive. A little on the greasy side but they had fried it up fresh. The house special combo had shrimp, beef, pork and chicken - a decent amount of protein and tasty. A somewhat small restaurant but still had a few tables of patrons at that time. The staff were nice. Plenty of parking.

While parking, I searched the strip mall to find a spot for me to order food. Barrhaven Vietnamese Restaurant popped out among all the other chains. I called in an order for pickup. When I arrived the place was moderately busy, but i was greeted immediately. The restaurant itself is very cute and cozy. I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner. As we were walking out, my children noticed someone eating pho and even requested we come back. I ordered the Vermecelli with chicken and I am so grateful I did. There was so much chicken and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Even the salad was green and fresh, along with cucumber that had been cut into tiny strips. It also came with two fried spring rolls. I prefer regular spring rolls, but they were delicious, very crispy and flakey. I prefer my vermecelli completely mixed, so I added the dressing, shut the takeout box, and shook it up. This made it easier to have noodles, greens, and chicken with every bite. I was too hungry to think to take a photo, but will add some on future visits. Definitely recommend and will absolutely be back!

However,…read moreit has been a hard search because most places don't sell this item so I came here just for this item. It was good compared to others I've tried but still missing a flavor in the broth. Service was quick. The guy who gave us the menus handed us with a paper to write down our order but didn't speak which was fine because we understood what we had to do. Everything was cooked as we ordered and the vegetable spring rolls were amazing and piping hot when they came out. We couldn't even eat/touch them until our main dishes came out. They were also quick to refill our waters as well. Interestingly enough, the guy who handed us our menus actually finally spoke perfect English when we went to pay. This was a good local spot which consist of actual Vietnamese owners/cooks. There was also a group of Vietnamese ladies who were definitely regulars.

The beef was really tender and flavourful. I did get a fatty and gristley piece though :( but on the most part, the beef was lean. The chicken was lean and a tiny bit dry, but still flavourful a tasty. The shrimp were medium sized and ok. Not that plump nor juicy, but for the price, not surprising. The spring roll was mostly wrapper and too oily for my liking. The rice dish came with fresh cucumbers and pickled radishes and pickled carrots. The vermicelli dish came with shredded lettuce and bean sprouts, which were underneath the vermicelli. It also came with pickled carrots and crushed peanuts. The fresh vegetables were fresh and the picked vegetables had a good sour bite to them. We also got a tub of fish sauce, which neither of us like, but my dad does, so I saved it and gave it to him on the weekend when I went to see my parents. I appreciated that they labelled the fish sauce with a warning to open slowly (with a smiley face, lol). Food is packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for environmental and health reasons. Service was very courteous and efficient. I was told it would be 25 minutes. I returned in 22 minutes and they were just tying up the bag. Perfect timing! Note that the prices on their takeout menu (pictured) are outdated. My dishes were listed as $9.50 each on the menu, but I was charged $11.75, which is still a great deal. Prices have gone up as a result of the Covid Pandemic, so I get it. I would just suggest that they print new takeout menus. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path in Chinatown. Street parking only.
