Ion Solar sold and installed my solar panels and Tesla Powerwall 3 system. While the sales guy was professional for the sale and mostly available until the panels were installed. He was pretty much AWOL when I started having problems with the install. 1. The sales guy lead me to believe that the entire process and system could be installed in 3 months. It actually took 8 months. 2. The system was initially engineered as a 25 panel system. They were told at the time that I had a new shop on the homestead and would also be using the system to power the shop. They did not include that information when applying to the county so initially the county rejected the system as too large for my needs. After a few weeks working with the the county and Ion, I was able to get it straightened out and approved as a 25 panel system. 3. Throughout the process Ion was hard to reach. It always seemed the person I needed to talk to was out. I'd wait for call backs that never came. Ion Solar likes to work via Text message instead of phone calls. The initial texts are returned by an automated system saying we got your text and someone will reply soon. Texts aren't returned timely so waiting is a big part of their process. 4. Making the above even harder is the fact that Ion solar is disjointed in that they have a different group for each step of the process. A group for Designing the system, an Engineering group, a group for reviewing the engineering of the system, a group for scheduling, a group for dealing with the utilities, a group for accounting, a group for scheduling installations, a group for installations, a group for maintenance. You get the idea. The groups don't always hand off properly or timely. For example: I got a call from the Electric company telling me they approved the design however, Ion didn't let me know this until almost 2 weeks after the approval. I had to call Ion to let them know. Then they said, Oh yea, Congrats, we'll pass this on to the scheduler.... Early on I had questions about the design because it appeared they didn't include a sub panel for my shop. It took many phone calls and texts to reach an engineer who was savvy enough to discuss the issue. 5. My Tesla Powerwall 3 installation was the first they had done in Virginia (so I was told). It therefor required specially trained people from Utah (headquarters) to travel to my home to perform the install. That took a while to schedule. While the Tesla savvy installer was here, he was training the local installer. At this point I had already received the ATP from the county but Ion hadn't notified the installers of this. When the installers left, they left the Powerwall 3 in a maintenance mode which would not allow it to work. After many calls to Ion Solar to get it fixed, they had to re-schedule an installer to come out and fix it. This tool several weeks. Turns out the problem could have been corrected remotely but Ion Solar didn't realize this until the installer got here and was able to correct the problem in about a minute and a half. All he had to do was open the TeslaOne app (only used by installers) and turn the system on. I even called Tesla and asked if they could do this. Tesla said they could but only if Ion Solar had provided Tesla with the system information (which Ion Solar did not). So I waited for another week for the installer to come out only to push a button on his phone. 5a. While installing the system they connected it and tested it with the wrong home network (I have two). To get that corrected you need the Tesla Powerwall 3 password specific to your unit. This password is on a label inside the unit itself. Ion was supposed to record and provide that password to me in case I ever needed to change my network SSID(name). They did not. When Ion was asked how I could change my network they said to use the password but couldn't tell me what it was. So... I had to unscrew and open the Tesla (high voltage) Powerwall 3 to obtain the password to fix the issue. Customers shouldn't have to do this. 6. Throughout the process the Ion Solar app is supposed to track progress and provide you with useful information. This only works if the app is updated timely by the various groups within Ion Solar. This didn't happen in my case. I was often contacted by the electric company to let me know that they were waiting for a response from Ion Solar. So I had to get involved again. This was a very hands on process for my the home owner. I'm an Engineering project manager by trade and used to dealing with projects with many moving parts. I saw very little effective project management from Ion Solar. Now for the good.... My system is installed and is now working and has been so for almost 7 months. I've not needed to contact Ion Solar nor Tesla. I hope to never have to call them again...... read more

Hard to believe there are slightly positive reviews. They had to come out our different times to install an electric panel and, in doing so, missed the December 31 cutoff for the tax deduction. Four times, four different electricians, all of who thought they had it worked out. I'm not sure if they have it worked out yet because they had to move back the final inspection because they forgot a grounding wire. So far, not an amp of energy from the solar panels on the roof. The installation of destruction of the drywall around the placement of the control panel is so bad, I won't let them touch it and will hire a company that's done remodeling in my house to fix their mess post-inspection, assuming it passes as is. read more

Great sales pitch that lacks meaningful follow through. They will buy off customers to maintain very high reviews, so proceed with caution. This company is divided into so many teams that any kind of communication is extremely inefficient and relies on many promised return calls. A recent outage took at least 7 phone calls and 3 scheduled service team visits - one of which was canceled during the scheduled window of arrival - to even diagnose the problem. The damage was caused by squirrels and the tech recommended critter guards, which are offered by ION as an add-on, but was never proposed or mentioned to us during the long process of designing our ideal panel arrangement. It appears that ION is intentionally neglecting to offer this option in order to profit off of necessary services down the road. All of this for an underperforming system. I do not recommend ION for your solar power needs. read more

He is personally responsible for screwing up our financing arrangement and refused to follow through on his commitments to rectify the issue. They ignore the clearly posted No Soliciting signs in our neighborhood and continue ringing doorbells, trying to sell solar panels. It's not just me -- they've been bothering many of my neighbors too. This kind of pushy, door-to-door sales approach is outdated and disrespectful. Terrible experience. Most importantly, do not sign any contract with them until you are certain you want to commit. Otherwise, you will get fleeced with absurd charges ($3,500) that are embedded in the agreement but they won't tell you about during the consultation (you have something like 72 hours after signing to cancel without penalty). The salesperson wrote them off as 'you can walk away at anytime and we may ask to recoup the permit fees and other fees' - make sure you know what that entails because we were led to believe the cost would not be that punitive. The salespeople will try to bait you and act like they're on your side and conveniently neglect that minor detail. Additionally, make sure you get the total cost when financing if going that route and get a cash comparison. Also, their tech is inferior to other competitors and also tried to sell on a horrendous setup. When asked for cash pricing, it took them forever to respond and kept forward to different people. Ultimately I chose to eat the cost because I lost trust and confidence in them through the lack of professionalism in the process and leading us on while acting like they were being straight with us. read more

The coordination and communication of scheduling service is HORRIBLE! Recently our gateway was replaced and when it came back on line it reported an issue with a panel. The technician came out on 10/15 to inspect and told us that there was a squirrel nest and that it needed to be removed before the panel could be serviced. They also had to turn off our system as a safety precaution. (Completely understandable.) We had the squirrels trapped and inquired about having a critter guard installed in addition to servicing the panel. Ion was happy to take our money and said they would schedule the critter guard and panel service. The technician came out on 10/29 for what we thought was to complete service and critter guard. No. It was only for the guard which could not be completed because the panel still needed to be replaced. The technician said someone would call us to schedule. NO ONE called us. We had to call them and got the run around. Every person we talk to has trouble seeing what the issue is until they put us on hold for 10 minutes so they can dig into the account. and then we're told a service manager would call us back regarding the quote and scheduling of the repair due to critter damage. We said hold on, when was it determined that it was critter damaged? They sent us pics and it's obvious it was, but why didn't they share these with us when they came out. We have no idea what the repair cost is which may have impacted our decision to purchase the critter guard. Why did they schedule the critter guard install knowing the panel was still an issue? That was two days ago. No call from anyone that can help us or explain what went wrong. So here we are, still without an operable system that has half a critter guard installed and hoping that whatever the repair cost isnt going to break the bank. We have yet to receive a call back from a service manager, to find out how much more money we have to cough up or when they can come back out, (I'm sure the squirrels will do the right thing and stay away) but we did receive a call today telling us we would get $1000 if we referred a friend to get solar. I have serious concerns stemming from the improper installation of the solar panels at my home by Ion Solar. They installed panels in Sept 2022. I noticed water stains in my front bedroom in February of this year. Called Ion, and they sent out a technician on Feb 7. The tech initially told me that Ion was at fault and they would be following up. They did a week later. They sent another tech out and he was supposed to have a partner with him so they could conduct a test that showed where the leaks were coming from. He didnt wait for his partner and did the test himself, which caused water to come into my home! Previously, there was no actual leaking-- only water stains. When the technician conducted his test, he made the water come through the ceiling. He caulked it. And left. I get an email with photos, but no written assessment from the Feb. 7 nor the Feb. 15 visits to my home. I got a text that the tech determined a squirrel had gotten in under the panels, chewed a hole in the roof and that was why the roof was leaking. I had three independent contractors come out PLUS Terminix. The contractors did not find any animal damage inside. But they DID confirm that the solar panels were not installed properly. They were nailed into the roof shingles, and not the trusses! Then they put caulk around the nails to try and cover their mistakes. I have sent three letters, texts and Ion keeps saying they did nothing wrong. They asked for photos, which I have. I cant get this covered by insurance because its Ion's fault. And tbh, the contractors all told me that my roof was too old to get the panels in the first place! But the worst part is the way they installed the panels. Anyway, stay away from this company. They are trying to run the clock down on their 2-year warranty! They misrepresent themselves and it's all predatory because they charge $7,000 to lift and replace the panels! So it's a racket I think. I am a single mom and small business owner. I do not have a cool $16,000 to throw around at this roof! And every time it rains I get anxiety because I am not sure what is happening up on my roof and attic. And I dont want further issues to occur in the meantime. They truly need to do better and when they mess up, it should not be this difficult to rectify. Key issues resulting from Ion Solar's employees' negligent conduct include: 1. Negligence: The panels were incorrectly installed directly onto the roof instead of into the trusses, contrary to industry standards and as evidenced by the lack of any animal damage as initially claimed by ION representatives. 2. Breach of Contract: failure to fulfill the terms of the contract was evident when only one of the two associates sent to my home arrived, causing significant damage to the roof and compromising its integrity. 3. Breach of Warranty: The faulty installation led to issues that did not exist before ION Solar's intervention, indicating a clear breach of the warranty agreement. 4. Fraud and Negligent Misrepresentation: Ion's actions display elements of fraudulent behavior and negligent misrepresentation, exacerbating the situation further. We have discussed these points previously but to no avail. My next option is to litigate and log in a formal complaint with DPOR read more

Horrible experience once the Panel were installed and money was paid to them through bank. My yard is trenched since last 4 months and every time I follow up they say the scheduling team messed up with inspection scheduling or field agent cannot come. So far I have 2 failed inspections from county and 3 reschedules including one that happened this morning where someone scheduled it wrong. Also every time I follow up and then they try to schedule VS rescheduling should be done by them.This is my second month of paying Monthly installment for my Solar loan without generating a single unit since we can not turn it on until inspections are done so I am paying my electricity bill and this which is double cost to me every month. Trust me, you do not want to sign any documents this company puts in front of you!! The salesman who came to my door was pushy and dishonest. He lied to me about a document and pushed me to sign it, telling me it was just to get a site survey started, and was only to ensure if someone got hurt, it was not my liability. I decided to trust him and sign it and review it later knowing I had a 3 day right to cancel. After he left I read the document and realized it was in fact a purchase agreement, which I never intended to consent to. I had to cancel using my 3 day right. According to him, I would not be "locked in" until an installation plan was started. I'd like to believe that, but that's not what the written agreement said. When I called to cancel, the corporate rep continued to try to change my mind even after I explained that I was lied to. read more

ION solar uses dishonest and pressure-oriented sales techniques. The ION sales representative repeatedly confirmed that we would be able to cancel for any reason without any fees. We were then guided through a lengthy video that we had to confirm our understanding of. After the videos we were presented with the documentation to sign. The sales representative reassured us that we could sign the documents without reading them as "everything in the documents was already reviewed in the video". I recognize that not reading the documents was folly on my part. However, the deceptive techniques used by the sales representative is on the company and is demonstrative of ION's ethics. I made several attempts to explain the situation and the response to our initial email to ION was met with a threat to send to collections within 30 days. Additionally, anyone considering doing business with this company should be aware that ION will begin the work prior to the customer excepting the loan agreement. This is what happened to us. Once we got the loan agreement, we realized that the APR was ridiculously high and decided not to move forward. ION had already completed the site survey and design which automatically triggered the cancelation policy. The manager I spoke to indicated that they consider this to be "buyer's remorse" despite the fact that we did not accept the terms of the loan which would have been a requirement for "buying" anything from them. read more

I worked 2 months with "Ion Solar" located in Manassas VA as a " Solar Installer " then " Solar Electrician Assistant", Mr Eddie Freeman - Director of Electrical Compliance and Mitch Carter - Director of Field Operations have refused to give me experience certificate which I need for "NABCEP PVIP " Exam. Now I complaint with DPOR ( Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation) . I submitted my job letter , 2 months paystubs and many working proof of videos and all customers information with job numbers completed.But this both people are very incoperative. I had solar panels installed on my house by ION Solar, and this is my experience. I started the process in January 2023. All my paperwork was in by mid February. My solar panels were finally approved for operation mid September. Throughout the 7 - 8 months their team was a no show at least 5 times. When they would come they would leave a mess of insulation and drywall all over the floor. I actually had to remind them to come fix the hole they cut in my ceiling and wall. They also failed the county inspection three times. Now that my panels are operational I'm realizing even more that this was a bad idea. My solar panels don't produce enough energy to cover even half of my electricity, so now I'm paying an electric bill and a bill for financing the solar panels. If you don't have $40k or more in cash to pay for the panels, don't even think about financing them. It's not worth it. Their sales person convinced me that the solar panels would produce enough energy to cover my electricity bill, so I was thinking no big deal on financing, it would be about the same as I already pay for electric. Man, was I fooled. Lesson learned. read more

I purchased a solar system from ION Solar in August 2021. First the person who was suppose to do my site survey refused to get on the roof and did the survey from the ground. When the installers came to install the panels, they said the furnace exhaust pipes were in the wrong place and had to redesign the panels stating that it would not affect anything. They lied, the new design had to be re approved by the electric company which took another 3 months before they could turn on the panels. In January 5, 2023, I noticed 2 panels not producing as much solar power as the rest. 1/11/23 a repair person came out and replaced the inverters on both panels then said there was 2 4 foot pipes blocking the panels. I told him the angle of the sun to where the pipe is only affects 1/16 of the panels. Two days later, I noticed the same panels still were not producing enough solar power and called for service again. The repair man called me and said his boss and him have decided that the solar panels were producing the right amount of power and that it was MY FAULT the solar panels were not working right. Two days later, the person who does the Scheduling called and said I noticed the repair man didn't show up for his repair time appointment, let me reschedule a new time. I proceeded to explain the conversation I had with him. She claimed that she was shocked and looked at the computer at my account. She said I was right and those two panels are not producing like the rest of the system. She also said that she would talk to the manager of my system and would get back to me by the end of the day. That was February 24 and today is March 29 and I still haven't heard from ION solar. Also a neighbor who also signed on with ION solar told my I COULD NOT add a battery to store electricity for future needs ie. electric car charger. This was something the salesman never informed my wife and I about. Because of poor customer service I would not recommend ION solar to anyone. read more
