All I can say is DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. THEY NO SHOWED AND CANCELLED ON ME VIA TEXT AFTER 9 HOURS OF WAITING AND MULTIPLE GUARANTEES THEY WOULD BE COMING. I found InstaMove through Thumbtack on 12/16 to prepare for a last minute move from Austin to NYC. I just needed labor to load my truck. I had previously used Texas Elite Moving but they required a 2 hour minimum + destination fee and I knew this wouldn't take that long. InstaMove has a one hour minimum so I (regretfully) went with them. Stephanie was easy to work with and quickly booked my appointment via text since I was flying all day. I called that evening when I realized in my rush I had accidentally said 23rd instead of 22nd and Stephanie checked the schedule, confirmed availability for 9:30 am on 12/22 and updated my reservation. On the morning of 12/22 I texted Stephanie around 7 am as I had received no confirmation. Around 8:30 am, Stephanie confirmed the movers were running on time for 9:30 am. Great! We had been hustling night and day to be ready for them and had 400 miles to drive that day and needed to get in the road. By 9:45 am I hadn't seen a mover show up nor gotten any contact. I texted the number I had and she said she'd look into it. 15 minutes went by and no update and I reached out again. I was told there was a clerical error and they're sorting out now. About 30 minutes after my initial text, a manager called me. He explained they had FORGOTTEN MY APPOINTMENT when setting up the trucks for the next day and so the movers had already gone onto the next job. He reassured me, excessively, that they would absolutely have a truck there for me at 2 pm. No doubt about it. Around 30 minutes later, I'd been calling every other mover in Austin but finding someone ASAP on the Sunday before Christmas isn't exactly easy. I asked Stephanie to confirm there will 100% be someone there at 2, as the person who called me had, and she called the movers to confirm. Now suddenly 2 wasn't going to happen. I'm annoyed that no one has been proactively communicating ANYTHING. But they're still promising someone will be showing up, just late in the day. Again--no proactive updates. Around 1:25, a few hours later, I text to get an update on timeline. Stephanie gives me the owners number and tells me to call him. I do--and he rejects the call. Thinking it might be an accident, I call again. He rejects the call. I send a perfectly reasonable text AND THE OWNER IGNORED IT. Like, I'm sorry??? What?? Your company is costing me a day off work, an entire day of truck rental time, a (at this time) 6 hour late start in my move and a TON OF STRESS on a move your team confirmed that morning and YOU CANT REPLY TO A TEXT MESSAGE. It's so ridiculously unprofessional you shouldn't even be a company with that. I let Stephanie the office person know and she continues working on it. While I'd prefer more proactive communication, at least Stephanie consistently replied. Now Stephanie can't even get a hold of the moving team and they're not answering her calls. Again, super unprofessional of their movers to be ignoring their front office. At this point, seeing the writing on the wall, I scramble to find some neighbors who need some holiday cash to help load my truck. I haven't unloaded it so who knows if having to use non professional movers means my tv is broken or who knows what else. But I didn't have ANY options because Instamovr spent all day GUARANTEEING they'd show up only to text me around 4 pm saying they weren't going to show up and not even offering another time slot for the next day. I ended up taking 3 hours with neighbors what should've taken an hour with professional movers. Also, in the middle of all of this, I realized they disabled their thumbtack account. Yes, broken furniture etc is terrible. But no showing a client after promising all day they'd 100% show up is the worst that can happen. And what's worse is the owner wouldn't even acknowledge me when he completely ruined my move. That's completely unforgivable and you shouldn't be in business acting like this. You cost me hundreds of dollars and hours of time and stress and the owner couldn't even apologize himself. The only fix for this business is to close. Don't use them, don't think the negative reviews won't happen to you. read more

I moved on July 20th and it is November 9th. I still don't have my piano. Here's what happened: On the day of my move, I texted Nate and asked if it was ok to add my old upright piano to the load. He called me and I described it to him. He approved it saying that I could add anything because they charge by the hour. This was very different from other movers, so I was really happy about that. When the movers arrived, it turned out to be his 18 or 19 year old son and another young man who looked to be slightly older. They worked very hard and efficiently - they did a great job. But when it came time to move the piano, they were having some difficulty moving it because of its weight. The did the right thing and called Nate, who came right away to help. All three of them practically broke their backs getting the piano outside of the house. Then Nate reassured me that all was well and he left. He told me later that he didn't help load the piano onto the truck, and he didn't make sure his son secured it properly with more than one strap. He thought to remind them, but he didn't. And then he gave them the green light to move my piano up two flights of stairs to my apartment without providing them with the proper manpower and equipment. That just totally blows my mind! By the time they arrived at the apartment, the two kids found that the piano had snapped the restraint and had been seriously damaged. Nate's son called him and told him what happened - Nate was furious at him, of course. But I felt sorry for the kid, because he was just a kid. He had no experience with this. Nate was responsible for his training and follow through. Nate knew how heavy it was. There was no excuse. And prior to leaving my house, Nate's son had gotten a call from the next scheduled move - I heard him say he was running behind. Nate knew about this, too. Nate had clearly overburdened his son, made one poor judgement after the other, and just wasn't committed to doing things right. At my apartment when the damage was discovered, I spoke to Nate on the phone and he reassured me that he would bring it to his house and have it repaired immediately. He told me that he didn't want to file an insurance claim, but would pay for it out of pocket. He said he would take it out of his son's check... smh.. Here's what happened after that: 1) I have had to reach out to him for updates - he has never once bothered to contact me to let me know how things are going. I have had to seek updates from him. I haven't harassed him at all, 2) In one response, he said he had put about a thousand into the piano for repairs and asked me to be patient as he got enough money to re-key and tune the piano. I expressed understanding but still pressed him for its return. I asked him to keep in touch with me. He hasn't. That was the last time I heard from him - it was September 21st. 3) On that date, he admitted that he should've filed an insurance claim, but it was too late by the time he realized it. Now I was at the mercy of his pocketbook. 4) I have reached out to him 3 times since September 21st with no response. The third time, I explained that my partner and I are both musicians with a home business and we rely on that piano for income, especially during the holidays. He made no reply. I'm not a malicious person. I'm not a hard nose, though my partner told me I should've been more demanding when the damage was discovered. It's possible that Nate would've done the right thing if I was belligerent toward him, I don't know. Bottom line, I trusted him at his word. My next steps: I thought I'd start here with Yelp - at least this would warn others not to trust this man with their property. Reporting him to the Better Business Bureau will follow and then potentially small claims court. And it sucks because he's a nice guy, and had good intentions - but nice doesn't equal good judgement and character. Katy and Nate from InstaMove have been great to work with! They helped us move our office from and stored all of our supplies while we were in between offices. All that we had to do was pack up our personal desks, and they handled the rest. Then when we got to the temporary office space, we hated the chairs that were provided so we reached out to them again and they delivered our previous chairs directly to the new office and even moved them all inside for us. Our office still plans to move again soon so I'm sure we'll be reaching out to them again. read more

Do not use InstaMove Austin. It's cheaper but not worth it. Unfortunately when I contacted the company about damage to my washing machine and tv, I was told they have 3 months to give me an estimate on my washer and will not honor the damages done to my tv which is not repairable. Just because you CAN wait 3 months to repair something doesn't mean you should. Bad business. I wouldn't use this company again. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

Great experience overall, only complaint would be the communication. They kept sending our calls to voicemail when we would call to get an ETA. I found instamove on thumbtack, I spoke with Nate to book my appointment. He was very professional and efficient. When I booked the time slot Nate told me it would be between 10-12, they didn't show up until 12 on the dot.. when we called to get an ETA the call kept going to voicemail. It wasn't until 10 min before 12 that they called us to let us know they were on their way. The owner was able to accommodate us on short notice (same day), which helped us a ton as it was a slightly urgent matter. Loved these guys. We hired them to help us load a rental truck. They showed up 10 minutes early and they worked extremely quickly. We had hired a different mover originally and they backed out of the arrangement, so Instamovers were able to schedule us with little advance notice. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they bill in 15 minute increments past your scheduled time (many movers bill you by the hour whether it takes that long or not). Also, they did not charge for the mileage to get to our house. Definitely very pleased and I highly recommend this company. read more

Most apartment movers price by the hour but my daughter wanted a flat rate quote so she could budget for the move with no surprises. Instamove quoted her a flat rate to move her 2nd floor apartment in Austin to a new 3rd floor apartment in Round Rock. That's a lot of stairs! The 2 movers arrived right on time and got straight to work. They were courteous and professional, and worked very hard and as fast as possible to complete the move. The move took longer than expected and even though she had a flat rate quote, my daughter added an additional $50 to the Instamove bill and also gave each of the movers a well earned $50 tip for their effort. Severely disappointed by their service! The guys who moved my furniture damaged my west elm couch. Before moving, Kevin went through their policy of how they replace everything they damage but when my couch got damaged, him and the other guy were apologetic and keep saying we will take care of this, this will be replaced and called their boss Nate. Nate was quick to say that this will be taken care of in 2-3 days and this was before we paid them. So the movers asked us when we would be available the next day for their technician to come and look at the couch, we gave them 5.30 time. And then we paid them and they left. So there was no call the next day, and we waited and at 5.30 we called Nate to ask where the technician was. He said the guy won't come today as he has left him a message. And then from that point on, this Nate guy changed his tone and said 1. he will not replace or refund my couch 2. he is looking for a fabric store so someone can stitch the tear 3. since he can't find a fabric store, it might take month and he will need to take my couch 4. with my repeated concerns about why I need to live with a patchy couch esp when they don't even know what kind of fabric it is, he said he can replace the fabric on the whole thing. Ok now my couch is a 3 piece sectional, imagine having a different fabric on one of them 5. then he said he can refund my move instead of doing anything. My couch is almost $2000 Andes couch that I saved to buy as my first couch here in Austin. He wants to refund $350 for the move. 6. I have been nice to him and I even told him that he needs to be fair and not to ruin my experience coz I will have to go to BBB, to which he said he does not appreciate being threatened. 7. Told me to be patient so he can find a solution to repair my couch This guy thinks it's just a minor tear but it's a major tear in the edge of the couch, the fabric is seamless and you would have to change all the fabric on it. Why do I have to settle for fabric that might not match on a couch that's expensive. It's not my fault their guys messed up. They know it's their fault and just replace my couch. I don't want stitches on a seam less couch. Everyone I showed my couch to is horrified at the tear and the way Nate is handling this, I have been suggested to complain about them to small claim court and BBB as well. So please please do not go to this guy. Very very unprofessional. We have been waiting for him to come to us for a solution but think about it, I just want me couch replaced not stitched or repaired. There are no stitches on the the top part of the couch, which is why I love it. I don't want it fixed or repaired. I want my couch replaced or refunded. Very very bad business. I wish I had read other negative comments they got before. So now we are just waiting and I will be complaining about them. Stay away or hire them on your own risk. read more

Worst customer service ever! The details below can be validated by phone logs - this is not make believe. We moved from out of state and after looking at some reviews on Thumbtack, we booked Instamove for a basic unloading service. When I say basic - 2 bedroom apartment, no appliances, just furniture and boxes. We were told they would arrive between 2-4 on December 14th. Just after 4 when no one had arrived we called and spoke with the office and were told the crew was running late, but they should be to our place by 5:30. As 5:30 approached we called to get a status (as no one was keeping us apprised), and this time we were told it would be 6. I asked "Can you guarantee this?" to which we were told no, but it should be around that time. You shouldn't be surprised what happened next. As no one had yet arrived by 6, we called and once again asked for an update. When I persisted asking why we could t get a firm time, the receptionist/office assistance hung up on me. The fun was only beginning. As you've read in other reviews, the business is run by a guy named Nate. I spoke with him and had what I thought was a pleasant conversation. He told me two things: someone would be at our place by 7:30 (remember they were supposed to be here by 4), and that HE would keep me in the loop with status. Of course this was the last time Nate spoke with us. As 7:30 came and went, we were called by one of the movers who claimed a job they were on was taking longer than anticipated, and unfortunately they wouldn't be to our place until 9:30... My patience was surely running thin but he assured me. No, that's not the end. Around 8:30 we were once again given an update. They couldn't make it until 11:30 - yes, 30 minutes before midnight. I asked the man to have Nate call me. No call from Nate. I then tried Nate directly. Funny - my call went straight to voice mail. His message said "please also send us a text for faster response time" so I did. No response. It is one thing if there is a delay. Sh@t happens. But when delays result in lies, poor service, calls being hung up on, etc., good grief. Do NOT use these guys. On Sunday morning, I called UHaul and they had movers arrive at or place at 2pm. Work was completed within 2 hours by a helpful, responsible team. I repeat, do NOT use Instamove or you will be Instantly upset by the incredibly poor service. read more

For a one bedroom move which had one couch, two tables, one accent chair and a king bed, 4 medium boxes to be moved, they took 6 hours!!!!!!!!! Had to pay $600 for a one bedroom move which was already packed up and ready to go!! They didn't have the right power tool and the key for the bed so it took them over a hour to dismantle it and 40 minutes to put it together! They sent in two men but only one knew what he was doing and the other one just stood there for most of it. I had a bad experience in terms of how long they stretched it out. The movers were nice otherwise but I definitely overpaid for these sevices. Will not recommend! read more

Yesterday, I was on the verge of tears because a different moving company screwed me by scheduling my simple truck unload into a storage unit...taking a deposit, and then disappearing. I was left in a desperate, very time-sensitive situation due to a lot of other moving parts in my situation. Luckily these fellas were the first I contacted through a platform called Thumbtack. I got a reply in less than 2 minutes, and spoke with Nate, the owner of the company. (Nate, I am so sorry I got your name wrong on the review I left on Thumbtack!) He was helpful, compassionate, confident, and the exact reassurance I needed, which pulled me right out of the hole I was stuck in. He quickly asked his guys if they would be ok with tacking one last (last min) job onto their day, and they were kind enough to agree to help me just 45 min after my initial contact with Nate- which is huge. I got the call back giving me the green light, and I wasn't kidding when I called him a hero. I still can't believe what a rescue situation that was. He gave me an honest and extremely affordable price despite knowing how desperate I was, which many companies would have milked, and he assured me an ETA. This is a very honest & very fair company with no surprises. (Nate's phone estimate for my accurate description of inventory and unloading situation was exactly what I ended up paying when the job was done. Not a penny more.) His 2 guys arrived exactly when promised, and worked hard non-stop to get the job done in a timely manor even though they were working by an hourly rate. They were also very careful with some precious items that belonged to my mom who I recently lost to cancer. They were very kind in handling her things which meant more to me than everything else. The job was done well, quickly, and with only 45 min advanced notice- without gouging me on rates or adding any same-day job fees. That's a miracle. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world yesterday- a 180 from how I felt before they rescued me from a horrible no-show situation. Outstanding company, outstanding guys. I used Nate and InstaMove before and it was one of the best moving experiences I ever had. When I used them a second time, it was a nightmare. It took over 12hrs to move a 2 bedroom home. Upon unpacking our brand new fridge was banged up and scratched, our coffee table was completely destroyed, and the legs of our bed were ripped off. This totaled about $3000 of damage, Nate originally was great and communicative. He said he would file an insurance claim, now 7 months later I've received no follow up despite reaching out multiple times. There was plenty of other minor damage, but I'm not a picky person, I was just hoping they would make right on the items that were destroyed. I've never had this happen with any other movers before, I can't recommend enough that you stay away from this company. read more
