Went at night before closing. Bright, clean and warm ambience with the lovely cookie smell every where. Agree the staff was less than enthusiastic but she's working late at night by herself so I can understand it's not so exciting for her. Lots of inventory available even though it's close to closing. The cookie is larger than Crumbl and honestly I felt it tasted better, too. Did not feel or taste like gourmet cookies though, just large, warm and as the main ingredients would suggest. No seated tables, standing tables only. read more

The kind of cookie that can fulfill your random craving. I usually DoorDash to order but have also visited in person to purchase the cookies. It's a quick in and out type of service and there never seems to be a line when I visit. My go to cookies are the macadamia and chocolate chip (very basic cookies ofc) but nonetheless still very good. They typically are still warm and gooey when I get them. The cookies are a tad on the sweeter side and prices are a little on the expensive side for a box of 6. Still will come back since Mrs. Fields no longer exists out here. read more

Cookies were just OK. When I'm paying, paying for a gourmet cookie, I'm expecting it to be loaded with fillings and to be gooey and tasty. These were closer to a grocery store cookie than to the kind I just described. The staff seemed hurt and disinterested. read more

Honestly love coming to Insomnia for the s'mores deluxe cookie. It's one of my absolute favorites! They had a few seasonal flavors, such as cinnamon bun and apple pie. We got one of the apple pie cookies, a white chocolate macadamia, and of course, the s'mores cookie all to-go. Apple pie cookie - 3/5. The apple pie filling inside was pretty good, but I didn't like the crumbly texture. White Chocolate Macadamia - 4/5, a classic. Can't go wrong with this one. S'mores deluxe - probably their most elite cookie. Chewy, decadent, chocolatey. It never misses! Service was whatever. I can't expect much from a college kid manning the register late night. Establishment was clean, a few seats for people who want to eat their cookies there, plus a nice outdoor seating area gives more room. Definitely not recommended during this cold weather though. Will definitely be back again! read more

Terrible service, Staff is genuinely evil, they all look like they hate their jobs/life and treat the customers so rudely. I've had At least three different female staff members treat me and others with bad attitudes. If you are going to be mad, keep it professional, i ordered a double scoop and only got one. read more

okay, 5 stars for food... BUT!!!! the staff is not enthusiastic when they serve you the food :( it is definitely a great place for those who attend sfsu and pulling an all-nighter and seems like a clutch place to work for those who need an on-campus job, but I was not too impressed with how little care that the staff provided. I love that the lights are so bright and inviting with the menu being the color purple. It seemed so much more inviting because it looked like a dream when you see it from afar. Thank you to Chookeze for buying cookies whenever we would drink because this would help with the much-needed crash on the couch after a long, hardworking week of nursing school. read more

I was hesitant to order from here because of the previous reviews but I took the chance and it worked out well. I ordered the brownie sundae and a cookie on DoorDash. It came on time, the ice cream hadn't melted, and the taste was good. It was a standard ice cream and brownie sundae and satisfied the craving. They sent me updates via text and you can track the delivery on their website (not DoorDash). The ice cream portion is relatively small but was the perfect amount for me. read more

After a late movie night, I turned to my trustee yelp app for a dessert spot and found Insomnia cookies. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is so freakin delicious. It had that chewy center and toasty crunch around the edge. The peanut butter cookie was scrumptious and the peanut butter cups on top melted into the cookie perfectly. My mom had the vegan gluten free chocolate chunk. The picture doesn't do this cookie justice. When she bit into it there were chunks throughout hidden below the surface. She loved it! Customer service was just okay. The person at the front was informative but seemed to hate being there. It doesn't feel like a spot to sit and enjoy your cookies. Def pick it up and go. read more

I saw this posted on social media. Advertising 6 cookies for free with a $5 purchase until 8/31/23. Student ID or faculty ID. I didn't qualify but my daughter did. We dropped in this afternoon. She showed her student ID. Besides fresh baked cookies they offer ice cream. We went with a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of minterstellar (cookies and cream with chocolate mint). In a cup. There's counter seating which we took advantage of. The ice cream was very smooth and creamy. Our six cookies - two snickerdoodles, two peanut butter chip, and two chocolate chunk. The cookies are soft and light. You can order an ice cream sandwich. But we didn't. They've been opened about a month. Grand opening is Saturday August 26th. read more

Did not know this place existed till I googled it. Great if you want a late night snack because of the late closing hours. My white chocolate chip cookie was warm and soft, when I got it and it was yummy. Definitely recommend if you want a late night snack. read more

Having access to Insomnia Cookies in San Francisco so close to home is dangerous. At home on the East Coast & when I used to purchase them in New England, I'd have to walk to the store & burn a few calories before consuming upwards of 600. Here, I sit on my couch & order for delivery. Retrieving the purple & white box from my front door is the only energy I exert to get my cookies. It's a problem. Super disappointing. We drove all the way from Oakland to SF to try Insomnia Ice Cream. Got there at 2:20 am (they close at 3) but the staff told us they stop serving ice cream 30 minutes before closing. The problem? We still had 10 minutes left before that cutoff. We mentioned we came all the way from Oakland, but she didn't care. Won't be coming back. read more

Really wanted to give this place a try since I had heard such good reviews from people, but unfortunately I don't plan to come back. I ordered ahead and waited 30 minutes, then once I picked up my order and got home I realized they only included one of my two items. No answer by phone when called. It wasn't busy so not sure why they weren't checking orders properly. I ordered the Loaded Brownie with chocolate chunk blondie, cream cheese icing, and cookie dough topping. The best chocolate chip cookies!!! The chocolate chips are huge and they're super soft and gooey. Will definitely be coming back again for these! As for the other cookies, they're ok aka the macadamia nut and oatmeal raisin. I would pass on the french toast and snicker doodle cookie though. read more

I was really looking forward to getting some warm, delicious cookies from Insomnia Cookies, and as expected, the cookies did NOT disappoint! They were fresh, soft, and exactly what I needed. However, the experience was completely ruined by the girl working there. Her attitude was terrible--she looked like she absolutely did not want to be there. No greeting, no smile, just a miserable expression the entire time. It honestly made me wonder, why work at a dessert place if you're going to look so mad the whole time? Sweets are supposed to bring joy, but her energy made the whole visit unpleasant. She even kicked the stool back in so hard after my boyfriend got up from it. We made sure to clean the table, and he even straightened out the stool. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt maybe she was just having a bad day, but a lot of the negative reviews for this location seem to be about her! read more

Ordered a box of cookies at 8:08 pm. At 9:50 pm called to ask about my order I placed almost 2 hours ago. Once I called, THEN got a notification that my order was on the way. Finally received them at 10 pm. The wait might have been worth it if the cookies were warm but nope. Stone cold cookies that took 2 hours to get to my house less then half a mile away. Really don't feel those cookies are worth the $36 I paid. Thanks for nothing. read more

I've been to this Insomnia location twice, and while their cookie quality leaves a bit to be desired the customer service should be the industry standard. I was never the biggest purveyor of cookies before the month of October, it wasn't until I saw the 20 for $20 birthday deal drop in the app that I decided to come around more often at least temporarily. The first time I came to this location was when I had a late night cookie craving and had to drive up from lower down the Peninsula. I did the 20 for $20 for pickup and at first it was a bit difficult to find where the store is because it is on the SF State campus. After almost completely circling the block, I did see the big purple cookie sign and went inside. One thing that I love about Insomnia especially when ordering for pickup is that your cookies will usually be ready before the earliest pickup time in the app. I don't know about you but the most I'll do is commute 15 minutes for my cookies, and I'd rather not spend another 15 waiting around once I get to the store. Usually I order some combination of the following flavors: double chocolate mint, white chocolate macadamia, chocolate chunk, and maybe one of each of the remaining options. Of the 20 cookies in the first box, only two of the chocolate chunk ones were really fresh and gooey in the center. In comparison, all the other cookies were noticeably harder, drier, and just not as fresh, including two of the other chocolate chunk ones. A couple of days later I see the Insomnia request for feedback email in my inbox, and I had some time on my hands so I filled it out honestly. Nikesh, the Store Operations Manager, reached out to me promptly afterwards expressing his apologies and offering to make things right with some cookies on the house. Of the cookies in the second box, the experience was unfortunately not any better. I had to place my order in-store, and when I did I asked the team member which ones were the freshest. I was told that all of the flavors were very fresh at the moment, so I went ahead and ordered my usual combination. The cookies were packed up immediately and handed to me, then I drove 15 minutes home before I got to sample them. All of the cookies in this box were equally as overbaked/overheated, there wasn't even one that was fresher than the rest. The four double chocolate mint ones were all so thin that they split apart upon being picked up, and the four white chocolate macadamia nut ones were all completely brown on the bottoms. I didn't manage to finish all the cookies in the first box, but even though I had fewer cookies in the second probably more went to waste. I know this store can do better because of the two gooey and fresh chocolate chunk ones from the first box, but in the meantime I'd really recommend trying a different location for better quality control. read more

Placing a delivery order at this location was a complete disappointment and waste of time. For starters, my order of 6 cookies took over an hour to prepare. When it finally said it was delivered, I never actually received it. I checked every house on my block but there was nothing there despite my order claiming it was complete. I just wanted to have some cookies. read more

I ordered the macadamia, chocolate, mint, peanut butter and oatmeal chocolate chip. Overall really enjoyed them all. The cookies were all warm and very soft and chewy with a crunch. The chocolate chip was a regular chocolate chip not overpowering with chocolate it was perfect and consistent. The macadamia was really good, the peanut butter was my favorite but I'm biased because I enjoy them. The mint was pretty good and had a good balance of chocolate and mint while not overwhelming the cookie. The oatmeal one was probably my favorite mainly due to everything really meshing well together. All cookies had a good consistency of flavor, texture and crunch. The service was very helpful and accommodating. The ambiance was very clean and also had seats inside. They open late which is great and they also have a variety of ice cream. Decent cookies but not worth the cost! Cookies were bigger than a standard Oreo cookie but not by much. If I were richer and could afford these cookies, would absolutely buy them....but until I win the lottery, I'm going to try and find delicious treats elsewhere. The cookie and ice cream were descent size and taste. I can see where this place can have certain appeal. Honestly, I was not impressed by the whole experience or product. Customer service was okay, the sale person was a bit distracted. There were no other customers. A cookie and ice cream so, so quality for $10+ is not something I would recommend. It can be nice experience, if you don't want to go drive or walk to West Portal stores or Ambrosia Bakery. I hope the store does well, with the student crowd because is convenient, if you have a cookie with ice cream craving and aren't too particular. There is street parking but it can be a challenge. read more

Upon arriving at that time, I was told that apparently a previous employee had marked the order completed, but did not make anything. I was asked to wait 15 minutes while they made the cookies from scratch. 15 minutes later, I checked in and was told it would be another 10 minutes. Another 15 minutes later, it was still not completed. Finally, about an hour after I arrived, I finally got my item. I don't think I'll return - service was too unpredictable, and not worth it. Horrible service yesterday from a young college aged individual, she was on the afternoon shift between 3-4 pm. She came from the back, did not greet us just stood at the register, I asked her how she was doing, she gave me a smirk, I continued to order. Afterwards I asked for a single cookie bag to separate a cookie, she ruffled and gave me one, I said thank you, no reply as she returned to back area of store. I've never experienced this type of behavior from anyone else at this location, she could've had a bad day, understandable but customer service should not suffer because of personal affairs. My friends and I arrive at 1:20. The maps and online says they close at 2. The QR code on the window says they close at 2. The male employee saw us first and proceeded to turn off the lights and hide in the back of the house. Next the blonde girl was stacking boxes and continued to ignore our knocking and obvious confusion. Then the red head came out and was anoyyed I was taking pictures and knew she was caught. She then continued to lie to our faces and use a condescending tone as if she wasn't in the wrong and just couldn't pull herself together for the rest of her shift. Do better. read more

Cookies are great. Warm, fresh, and delicious in the way you want warm cookies to taste. Service is friendly, prompt, and approachable. Prices are a little high, but reasonable. Ice cream is meh. I get it -- the cookies are the stars of the show, but the items with ice cream really aren't quite worth it. It's clearly targeted at college students with the late night munchies, but is a great spot to bring the kids as well. read more

The cardamom added a really nice aromatic touch. Pork Bun Bearclaw -- 10/10 My favorite item by far. It tasted like a baked char siu bun crossed with a buttery puff pastry. Savory, slightly sweet, and incredibly satisfying. Twice Baked Biscoff Croissant -- 4/10 Unfortunately way too sweet for my liking. If you're a huge Biscoff fan you might enjoy it more, but it was overpowering compared to the balance of the other pastries. Overall, definitely worth the hype. Just make sure to go early unless you want to risk staring at empty pastry trays. The rotating menu keeps you on your toes and already has me wanting to come back to see what they will come up with next.

How cool and creative and reduce-reuse-recycle is that!!!?? I love! And it was such a fun eat! Pineapple King is a place I absolutely have a love-hate relationship about. I like how innovation the buns are, but the ordering process - regardless of whether I waited in line or I ordered in advance - has been very disappointing. I placed online orders in May 2021, April 2022, October 2022, June 2023, January 2025, and then today. (Thanks to my email which reminded me of the dates) Every single time I had to wait extra time for my previously placed online order to be ready. After several times of waiting for an extra 10 minutes, I decided to give them extra time to prepare the buns. It simply did NOT work. They always, and I mean always, asked me to wait for 5 more minutes. 5 minutes passed, and the order was still not ready. The average wait time has been 10 minutes in addition to the announced pick-up time. You might want to say, oh, I would like you to receive your buns warm and fresh. Thanks. But if a customer is late, they don't deserve warm and fresh buns. On the contrary, for us who are on time, why do we have to wait for extra time? Please consider adjusting the estimated pick-up time if you are super busy. I understand your store gets busy, and congratulations about that. Please ask your staff to give us a more accurate "extra wait time" because we customers are busy too. Our time is no less valuable than yours. Besides, I understand that you need to check our photo ID during pick-up. Please be consistent with your policy. While I was waiting by the pick-up window, I noticed there were customers who were not asked for their IDs, and they actually picked up their order after a 2-minute wait. Questions can be raised if you only enforce your policy either randomly or only towards several customers. After a few disappointing visits, our family are sad to say that this will be the very last time being your customers. How you run your business just don't align with our values.
