Nothing like a warm cookie! I ordered the double-chocolate chunk cookie. The cookie tasted pretty good. I'm glad I tried this place out now that it is finally open, but the prices were ridiculous. The toppings included: icing, peppermint, marshmallows, dots, food coloring gel, a spatula and a knife to spread the icing. Hopefully I'm not leaving anything out. My daughter and I had fun decorating cookies just for fun. And since we had a sick family member in the hospital, we made some "get well" cookies and sent her a pic. I placed an order through Doordash. First major problem is that this store "delivers their own orders" so I'm unable to track my order thru DD and I'm unable to see my driver's contact info, all because Insomnia thinks it's a good idea to handle their own orders. So I'm waiting on my order when all of a sudden I get a random text that says "I'm here's". No proper text to identify who they are because when Insomnia chooses to deliver their own cookies you get a really unprofessional driver engaging you with texts that seem random and out of place. I ended up calling the driver because he claimed to not know my address (which is a problem that all of my drivers for Insomnia claim to have), I told him to read the receipt for my address because I know how to do his job better than him. He eventually delivered my items by standing the box upright on my front gate instead of handing it to me like I instructed in the app (again, this is only a problem because Insomnia thinks it's a good idea to handle their own deliveries). I was never notified that my order was actually delivered and the driver never let me know that they found my place, and I wasn't able to track any of this because why? Because Insomnia thinks it's a good idea to deliver their own cookies. I then contact the store and spoke with a leader named Melissa to let her know how terrible of a delivery system they have and how my driver didn't know what he was doing. Melissa proceeded to blame Postmates and Uber because even though Insomnia claims to deliver their own cookies they actually outsource delivery duties to Postmates and Uber. I explained how no other business on DD has opted to handle their own deliveries and how Insomnia has made a choice to proceed with a flawed system is Insomnia's fault, not Postmates or Uber. This apparently is too complex of a situation for Melissa to wrap her brain around because she responded with "I don't get paid enough to know who's fault it is", she then went on to defend the driver who worked for Uber, saying that I'm asking too much of the driver and that I probably didn't tip so the service I received was satisfactory. I ordered delivery at 8:54pm for an arrival time of 9pm. After still seeing the "baking" status online at 9:30, I finally called customer service. Since they texted and didn't call like I requested, I didn't get the messages right away, so They had to wait for a few minutes which might be why they acted this way. It is still pretty rude considering they were an ENTIRE hour late, plus they didn't follow my directions! Now to the actual order. I got a few cookies and an ice cream. The cookies were all ice cold and the ice cream was so melted that it spilled all over the bag. How could these cookies have come straight out of the oven?! It is obvious there was something else going on that the customer service rep didn't tell me. Just one of these mistakes is understandable, but for all of this to happen in the same order, I am pretty annoyed. It shouldn't take 2 hours to get cold cookies and melted ice cream from 2 miles away. If I had known this would happen, I would have ordered from Tiff's where I know they are consistent. Overall, the cookies tasted good, but it's definitely not worth the trouble. I've had quite a few poor experiences with Insomnia. The first occurred a few weeks back when I had ordered a six pack for my friend, only to find that 3 of the cookies (red velvet and double chocolate chunk) had been replaced with other flavors that I had not picked. I understand it was late and very likely for Insomnia to have run out of certain flavors, but I would expect for them to call and let me know and choose a replacement, not for them to have chosen flavors for me. When I contacted custom service, a very nice lady offered to refund the price of the 3 cookies and gave me a "2 free cookies with any $6 purchase" coupon. Because of the attempt to make up for this, I continued to order from Insomnia. A week later, I ordered once again and received my cookies late, even after calling the store to check up on my order. Once again, the customer service lady was very nice and apologized and sent me a "3 free cookies with a $6 purchase" to make up for the lateness. The most recent time I ordered my cookies to be delivered at 9:15, then called the store at 9:30 when I had still not received the order, which I was given the response that the "cookies were ready and just left for delivery". Then finally at 10:02, my order arrived despite living less than 10 minutes away from the store. Just opened, and it's definitely solid. Each cookie I've had has been warm, soft and tasty. Was it better than Tiff's? I'd have to say no. And as someone who never has cookie cravings, I probably won't be back soon. But with Moojo's gone and Tiff's on the South side of MLK, Insomnia is a great, convenient option if you want to drop by for quick dessert, especially late at night (they're open till 3am, hence the name). The service also seems to be pretty good, not sure about delivery. The only reason I'm taking a star off is for the price; Tiff's is already expensive, and Insomnia is slightly pricier.
