I'm giving 1 star because the decor is beautiful, and it has a very Japanese theme to it. I also like the retail space, with little items to purchase. I'd been wanting to go here for the longest time, having seen someone having an afternoon tea through the window. Finally today, we decided to go. I was sure they did lunch items, but couldn't find a menu anywhere. The server apologized and handed me a menu, and pointed out the soup specials. Husband selected the loaded baked potato soup, and I chose the curried egg salad sandwich. He got an Americano (because there was no drip available) and I requested English Breakfast Tea, noticing that they had big black tubs of teas around the shelves. I requested skim milk (it wasn't available) and had to settle for whole milk. At this stage I'll point out that I am 100% English, I moved here in 2012, and it's difficult to get a good strong cup of English Breakfast Tea in town (The Perfect Cup was a noticeable exception to this, and were indeed the perfect cup of strong English black tea) but I had high hopes for somewhere called a Tea Lounge. His coffee was served quickly, but I waited a while for my tea. It arrived with the milk already in it, and had virtually no colour at all, so I could instantly tell, it wasn't strong enough. I took a sip, couldn't taste any tea, and I took it to the counter and asked for an extra tea bag. 2 of the counter staff seemed to need to deal with this issue, and kept my mug of tea behind the counter, and I was sent to the cashier to pay $5 for a brand new cup to be made. I'm quite outraged by this. I had already paid for the tea, my tea was made wrong, I was happy to pay to add an extra tea bag, or leaves to the cup I already had, or have them remake it to my liking, but I am aghast to have to pay twice for one mug of tea. After another wait, the tea was brought to the table - no milk, so I asked for milk. A jug of milk was brought, but no spoon to stir with. Again, this was weak tea. I have tea bags sent to me from home, I make it for myself every morning. This was weak tea. I had asked them to make the second mug STRONG. Am I not making myself clear? Anyway, the dining room was mostly empty, a reserved table's customers came in, and there was a guy sitting in a corner space. We had to wait an interminably long time, for a bowl of soup and cold sandwich requiring no cooking. The server brought the soup out 1st, soup splashed all over the plate. It was a nice big bowl. However, the potatoes in this soup are not baked potatoes, they're boiled. The bacon has not been cooked prior to putting it in the soup. And every other time I've had loaded baked potato soup, it's got a creamy broth. This is a runny broth. I love loaded baked potato soup, but that didn't look appealing to me at all. My egg salad sandwich followed, I was even more disappointed by this I think. I believe this egg salad is prepared in a food processor, as there are no discernible pieces of egg, it's kind of like a spread if you will, and a very thin one. A smear on one side of the bread. However if you love arugula, and tomatoes, you'd like this sandwich, because they are violently, aggressively abundant with it, to the point that I could not taste any curried egg salad whatsoever. I'll stick to making my own, at home, I shred the egg in a grater so there aren't big chunks of egg, but it still has the egg salad flavour. This was bland. Like I say, all I could taste was arugula. Best thing about this - the potato chips were fresh. I do feel VERY disappointed and let down by my experience today. It was an expensive lunch, an even more expensive mug of mediocre tea, which is ludicrous in a place calling themselves a Tea Lounge. I won't be revisiting, no matter how pretty the space. read more

Quaint little tea house in Anchorage with high ceilings and an intimate seating area. There are some really cozy looking chairs and fun couches to lounge on. I came here for high tea which was something new, so I had no point of reference on what to expect. Overall, I'd give it a B. The food items were good and presented in an attractive way, and I felt very ladylike eating such dainty little treats! Plenty enough for two people, I even took some home. An entire small pot of tea plus a free re-steeping is included in the cost of your ticket. Price wise, I would say everything was more than reasonable for Anchorage. My only complaint, and I'm not sure I would even call it that? is that our server seemed a little unfamiliar with the operation. In her own world a lot. Ended up cashing ourselves out at the front which was probably preferred anyway I'm sure I will be back. read more

A few suggestions to make this place more inviting: When someone makes a Tea Party reservation for a specific date and time, actually save them a table... Definitely not high tea. No tablecloth paper napkins and plastic spoons. Had to ask for milk. Tea was ok, sandwiches were ok there was no scones and no clotted cream. The little desserts while pretty were very sweet almost to the point of being inedible. Would not recommend for high tea. read more

My first thought walking in here: "dannnnng, this place is hip!" It's like a high-end meditation retreat meets Japanese lounge meets Scandinavian furniture boutique. It's unlike anything else in Anchorage. I ordered a curry special I saw advertised on their FB page, and it was excellent! It was a Japanese-style curry, not very common in Anchorage. This means the sauce is brown, mild, and gravy-like, rather than being coconut milk-based and spicy. Still, it really hit the spot after walking out in the cold on a sunny winter day. I also ordered a matcha latte with coconut milk. It was fantastic, but not as hot (temperature-wise) as I was expecting. With a Yelp check-in I received a free blueberry scone, it was fantastic! You can tell it's homemade from scratch! Service was a little slow, but maybe they were understaffed? (I came at an odd time inbetween lunch and dinner). I will definitely be back! Came here for afternoon tea the other week. A lot of people rave about this place but I wasn't too impressed. It was $32/PP for their Afternoon Tea Service. I didn't feel like it was really worth the price. Most of the treats seemed like they were from Costco, but their little sandwiches were really yummy. Service needs a bit of work. Nobody really comes back to check on you. We didn't get any silverware when the treat tower was dropped off and nobody came back for a long time, so we had to get up and walk to the front counter to ask for some. The tea was decent. A rather large tea shop that also serves food!!!! That's a pleasant surprise. Tea is tea, but this place is not just a tea shop. The ambiance with the customer service makes this place where you want your next get together with friends, families, and business partners. It's quiet, isolated, great interior design, and just straight up comfortable. Definitely a pick above Starbucks or even most local coffee shops where I will continue to return. Only one out of the four employees was actually working and she was preparing the food. No one came by the table, they were too busy sitting behind the counter. We did the tea service on a Saturday for two adults and a child. It was quiet and quint. Until the service actually started. The annoying shoe shuffle of the server with hot pink hair was off putting to the whole environment. I don't know what I did to the server with hot pink hair but according to her, I did something. The teas were slammed onto the white table with pink stains resulting in some tea splotching out of the cute little pots. Our teas were steeped too long resulting in a bitter chai and VERY bitter golden assam. The table next to us didn't even get tea in her pot, just hot water. The server with the hot pink hair didn't even tell us what we were looking at on our tier of food. She did for the table next to us and announced to everyone in the lounge that the person sitting by themselves that their date hasn't arrived but she should order. Some decorum and consistency would be helpful in type of setting especially since we're paying $39 per adult! We were checked on once and wanted to ask for a refill for our tea but decided to just leave. I love the atmosphere but the lack of professionalism by the server with hot pink hair left a horrid taste in this experience. Our total was $115 for all of us but we'll never come back. I was the only customer in shop when I visited and I had the opportunity of getting to know the employee. She was so kind and informative on the types of tea, tea sets, and little tidbits bits of information pertaining to them. She recommended I get the brown sugar bubble tea and boy oh boy was it good. Sweet, but not overly sweet. The boba pearls were also sweet and soft - I've been to a lot of tea shops that dont cook their boba long enough or the boba gets hard when it becomes cold, but Indigo Tea Lounges boba was perfect. For a fun LEISURELY afternoon, I would recommend Indigo's high tea. The tea sandwiches are fresh and delicious and the pastries are also top-notch. The little Star cookie had a spice added that was just enough to set it apart and made me curious as to what was added so I asked. I won't give it up here....but delicious and subtle. The mini-pumpkin spice cupcakes topped with cream cheese icing are also delightful and perfection! And if you have ever seen "Curb Your Enthusiasm's" episode on who has the better scones at the coffee shops, Indigo's scone would win hands down! I emphasized leisurely because the service between choosing the tea to actually receiving the tea was a tad bit slow for me. Maybe it's supposed to be a slow enjoyable high tea. But 15 minutes from the time to ordering to the time of receiving the tea is too long IMHO. And then the 3 tiered tea tray took another 30 minutes! Other than this, great spot with nice seating areas to enjoy a proper high tea. It came with a full sized salad, fruit and a huge sandwich. Um, I don't know very many places in Anchorage that offer that much food at that price. And the quality was 5 star all the way. I don't know what my sandwich was cause I told the girl to surprise me, but it was amazing... some kind of cold curried chicken salad. And the bacon and beet blue cheese salad was so delish. I'm looking to coming here for tea service sometime. I think they said it was 20 bucks or something like that and the food looked like it would be really good. Totally gonna have to check that out. I believe they said they only do it Fri-Sun, but don't quote me on that. This would be an excellent location for small parties, book club meetings, things like that. Indigo Tea Lounge is the best! They have such a large variety of teas to try, including white, green, black, oolong, herbal, etc! My personal favorites are the White Coconut Créme, and Peppermint! They also make boba, which is super delicious. I love getting the coconut milk tea with tapioca pearls. The environment is phenomenal, with chill music and cozy seats. 3 stars, it was okay. It took a really long time for them to make a matcha green tea latte and a chai latte, like 20+ minutes. Which was weird because there wasn't very many people there. And then the drinks themselves were just okay and were luke warm when we finally got them. To be honest, I think the ones from Starbucks have more flavor. The service also wasn't very friendly. I love this place BUT they keep disappointing. I went in one day at around 5 and they turned me away because they don't make waffles the last hour. So I went then next day and again I was turned away because they only make them on weekends. Came in another day at 9:30am and they were closed. Apparently they now open at 11. Ill blame yelp for not updating their hours but nonetheless still annoying. Today I ordered a boba tea at 12:30 and they informed me that their boba isn't ready until 1. With that being said their waffles are really good. Loved all the deserts they make and my favorite is the earl grey boba tea. read more

I can't wait to see where this place goes in the future in terms of a food/high noon food menu. For $3.50 you get a hot cup of tea served with honey and cream, refills are free if you keep your leaves! The only thing that I didn't like was the vegan brownie... It was too dry. My honey cookie was delicious though, super soft and paired well with my earl grey creme tea! I can't wait to taste another great tea. Second trip and I got a cocoa infused black tea. I stopped in to relax on a rainy afternoon. I'm very glad I did. I'm definitely someone who is obsessed with tea. Right away I noticed they had some great deals on tea pots and mugs in their clearance displays in the front. I browsed for a bit and a clerk politely engaged with me. When I decided to order a small pot, she recommend oolong tea and then when we discussed what I like, she further recommended the Mandarin Silk. I noticed that they brew at the proper temperatures, use timers, and remove the leaves. These procedures prevent burning and oversteeping the leaves. I had difficulty with the Yelp coupon but I eventually figured it out and got a free white chocolate lavender scone. The baked goods didn't look exceptional but this scone was very tasty. It has a nice texture, wasn't too sweet, amd had nice flavor. The lavender was subtly herbal, not too floral, and definitely not soapy. The tea was exceptional. I worked hard to work my way through two pots (re-steeping is included for pots). There is a variety of seating and I started on a couch in the corner and then moved to a high-top by the entryway in order to get some natural light. It was quiet and a pleasant place to relax. When I was all done, I relieved them of some screaming deals on tea and coffee pots and cups. read more

I love the exterior entrance! The indoor decor is modern and features the furniture that they sell in addition to beaucoup teas, Black Cup coffee, breakfast, lunch, and weekend high teas. I would love to see more bacon in their quiches and breakfast sandwiches. I think bacon is a necessary ingredient for both items but maybe that's just the nitrates talking lol. Full disclosure: I received a complimentary sampler of iced teas and a mug of Irish Breakfast to taste for Sweet Caribou. (You guys: my mug of tea came with an adorable, tiny spoon for stirring in the cream and sugar.) The iced teas are delicious and Indigo also makes a mean Thai tea. The breakfast sandwiches are thoughtfully prepared; I enjoyed the zing from the Dijon on the classic. The lox breakfast sandwich was equally as tasty as the classic. Gotta love lox on a croissant! When I heard that Indigo Tea Lounge re-opened at this new location off of Benson and New Seward at the Metro Mall across from the Sears Mall, I was eagerly looking forward to a new café option in town for studying after going to Kaladi's or Starbucks numerous times. The place is brand new with trendy style sofas and loveseats as well as a good number of tables and chairs spread out with the large seating area they have. There are plenty of outlets around the lounge area conveniently located next to the tables or sofas for your portable device. The Wi-Fi here is fast with a strong connection. A lot of modern art deco furnishings adorn the place and provides a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere to read a book, meet with friends, or study for a couple of hours. I was given a friendly and cheerful greeting by the employee behind the counter upon entering. I told her this was my first visit here and she said the place, in addition to being a tea lounge, is also considered an Internet Café so hanging out or studying is encouraged for everyone here. She also said there are about 150 varieties of loose-leaf green and black teas that can be prepared in front of the customers with specialized Steampunk tea brewing machines displayed on the counter. They also have a full espresso bar with drinks like the Yerba Mate Latte along with sandwiches, soups, smoothies, and a wide assortment of fresh baked goods like Nutella S'mores, cream puffs drizzled with chocolate, cupcakes, biscotti, and English scones with jam and cream. The most popular selection by customers is the afternoon tea service special which includes your choice of teas, and a three-tiered tray complemented with tea sandwiches, scones, truffles, petit fours, and fresh fruit at $20 per person which is perfect for social gatherings or work meetings. They also have live events like Open Mic Nights for local musicians or performers. My visit here was enjoyable and a solid option for me to study for a couple of hours if I happen to be in the area. This is a very nicely decorated and quiet place to meet a friend. The acoustics are such that sound is absorbed and not reflected which allows easy conversation. The coffee is good as it the tea. They could have a better assortment of pastries, but what they have is good. Service is good. A little slow, but they allow tea to steep for five minutes before serving which is actually how it is supposed to be. This is not a "tea bag" tea house, nor is it Starbucks. read more

Wonderful tea lounge! It was an enjoyable and memorable experience to have tea with my daughters today ~ Valentine's weekend!! The owners and staff were very accommodating, and helped us get a high chair for my 18 month old grandbaby. Our tea and savories were delicious. Especially enjoyed the raspberry cheesecake, curry egg salad sandwich and mini fruit tarts. We look forward to coming back on our next Alaska visit soon!! read more

Although it may not compare to afternoon tea served at the Ritz in London, Indigo's Afternoon Tea for Two provides a great selection of black teas, green teas, chai, Oolong and caffeine-free teas to satisfy any tea-enthusiast, and a 3-tiered platter of tasty sweet fruits, baked goods, and sandwiches. The staff is polite and ready to re-steep whenever you ready for more tea. You must reserve for afternoon tea, so keep that in mind. The food is delicious. The egg salad sandwiches and cucumber sandwiches are light enough to compliment the flavor of the tea. The pastries are served warm, soft and crumbly, and the fruit is served fresh. I recommend anyone interested in an 'afternoon tea' experience to visit Indigo. It's great for a first time, or remembering the grandeur of afternoon tea at the Ritz. First timer here, I can't believe I haven't considered coming here before. I am not a tea drinker but they have so much more! The vanilla latte was one of the top 3 vanilla lattes in town IMO, I try them everywhere. We tried the Beef Chow Fun special and it was very tasty. The server apologized for taking so long as it was cooked to order but it really wasn't long at all. We also had the fresh spring rolls. I seriously had no idea a tea shop/lounge served Asian food and coffee, I've been missing out. We will definitely be back to try even more things. read more
