Our room was spotless and much larger than we expected, which was a really nice surprise. It felt bright, fresh, and thoughtfully updated. The towels were super soft, which I always notice and appreciate. There isn't a traditional lobby or staff working on site 24 hours a day, but that honestly wasn't an issue at all. Ken greeted us when we arrived, showed us to our room right away, and answered all of our questions. He was friendly, welcoming, and very informative. Anytime I texted the number they provided, we got a quick response. We never felt like we were on our own or couldn't get help if we needed it. The amenities were great too. The free coffee bar was perfect in the mornings, and having an ice machine and elevator made everything easy. The complimentary aluminum water bottle was such a thoughtful touch. And definitely make a reservation at Christina's on the ground floor of the building. The food was fantastic and such a convenient bonus to have right there. I was a little worried about parking, but there is tons of street parking available. No problems at all. If you're looking for a cozy, unique place with tons of charm, this is it. It was not just the coffee maker, it was the whole tray it was on. I actually thought the dull gray color was the actual color of the coffeemaker the night before. The breakfast was very disappointing. Very few options. Biscuits and bland gravy, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, waffles, bread, cereal. No fresh fruits, no potatoes. There were no plates in sight. To get one, you have to knock on the kitchen door, hand over your breakfast ticket and they then hand you a foam plate. It was a weird set up. Considering all the good reviews, I guess I expected more from this property.

I chuckled at the Discman alarm clock that wasn't plugged in. We were initially given a 4th floor room right next to an ice machine that sounded like a jet engine after it sucked in a seagull. It was so loud we had to shout at each other in the room to be heard. Reception mentioned - it doesn't make that sound "all the time" when they moved us to the 2nd floor. Window coverings are broke and cannot be raised. I did use a clothes hanger to let some light in but I promise you our room hadn't seen fresh sunlight in two years. I didn't even look at the breakfast offerings. I've stayed in nicer Motel 6.

We totally lucked out and felt like we won the Lottery when we walked in. The proprietor met us on the little road heading down (while she was feeding the chickens, with a longhorn standing ominously behind her). Then - a huge fireplace with burning logs to welcome us in. We arrived late afternoon and just took a brief walk around the grounds on a few of the many trails. The Prayer chapel has a custom made cross with a stained glass dragonfly. The serenity of the scenic landscape is really something. This would be a perfect getaway for a group or spiritual retreat. Truly an amazing feeling - like you've just come home! Can't wait to return when the seasons change.

I'm constantly thinking about how I can get back here. This was the perfect getaway for me that was…read morerelatively close to the DFW and far enough where it felt like a different world. When driving up on the place, it looked underwhelming from the road, but once I was on the grounds I felt overwhelming peace. It was just the right size. You can walk a reasonable distance to amenities, but it's not a long walk to enjoy all they have to offer. There's a fitness room that has no rhyme or reason, but there's water fountain in there that I filled my bottle up with frequently, along with an ice machine. The bodega has drinks, medicine, snacks, and merch for purchase. I can imagine on the weekends they sell the alcohol, but being it was a Monday it was manned by cameras. The pool is stunning. Walking up on it is like a dream, and there's a hot tub as well. Pool towels nearby and a cooler along with nice seating along the pool. I loved walking down the main walkway because the speakers played music out of the speakers as you passed by (motion sensed). The cantina was lovely. Water and coffee were available all day, which maybe is the norm, or again, being there on a Monday was allowed (I'm fairly sure I was the only guest that day, so maybe they just like me be). There's outdoor seating area in the Casita, and a fire pit next to it. It appears to have a food truck as well, which I bet is open on the weekends when there's more than one guest. ;) My room was excellent. I love that they use non toxic cleaning products and the toiletries were also low tox. The rooms are so spacious, and refrigerator was high quality, and wow the sheets are soft and smooth. I enjoyed that everything was thought of - even when I thought there were no tissues, there were - just in the drawers! The windows and front door were great, along with the porch. The hotel room was perfectly designed, and the ambience was perfect. I was able to relax the moment I walked in. I loved the variety of herbal teas, which were yummy, and the coffee selection - I was so pleased with those. My kettle has calcium buildup and I texted the customer service line and within minutes they replied and sent someone to clean it out. I also forgot plates and plasticware, and they brought me some as well. Breakfast was continental. Muffins, bread, bagels, orange juice, milk, low sugar high protein yogurt, creamy butter, granola bars, and piping hot coffee and tea. I appreciated that they had gluten free bread. I already brought my own items since I'm GF/DF, but it was nice to enjoy their treats, too. Grounds keepers were doing an excellent job keeping the plants and grass up to a high standard. I walked the grounds enjoying the plant and the bugs they brought. It was peaceful and fun. Overall, even writing this review brings me joy. I loved this place so much and it was truly a luxurious experience where I enjoyed nature, solitude, rest, and a relaxed ambience across the grounds. I believe is an excellent spot for a solo trip (I didn't lock my door while I walked the grounds). I would love to make this a girls trip where moms can finally relax and take care of their own needs, and I'd also love to bring my spouse to break away from the demands of life and enjoy why we're married. This place was a dream and I can not wait to make my way back here sooner than later. If I were to be picky - my shower head was sporadic, I believe it also had calcium build up. But La Palmilla blessed me so much, I want to bless them with a good review! I knew I wanted to return within the first hour of visiting! Grounds are beautiful, landscape, pool, chapel with stained glass windows, walking trails, kind staff and much more! There's no check in but the texting service was very prompt in answering all my questions and I didn't have any issues getting in and out of the gates. I felt safe the whole time! I grabbed lunch from the Baked bakery in town and ate at the pool. There's a mini fridge at the pool so I could keep food and drink cool while there! And the subtle Spanish guitar music playing everywhere was just the cherry on top. Definitely recommend!
