Amazing, hot delicious food! I found India Palace after attending a near by auto auction. I was looking for India Sizzling as I have went to the north side location and had really liked it. To my surprise, it was closed. Luckily India Palace was just a stones throw away! I stopped in the for the lunch buffet on a Thursday afternoon and even though I was the only customer - the food was fresh and pipping hot. Everything had such deep and delicious flavors. The chicken tikka masala was smooth and velvety with chunks of juicy white meat chicken. The pakora was crispy and flavorful. The gulab jamun was warm and sweet. I'm so glad I stopped to have lunch on this side of town. I will definitely stop here every time I'm on the west side! read more

Based on some other recent reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. Although there was a paper sign on the door announcing their lunch buffet, in fact there was no buffet when I visited, arriving around 1:15 pm on a Friday. However they have an extensive menu and I was excited to try something new. Several tables were already seated, I was greeted right away and seated, brought water and a menu while waiting for my friend to arrive. Service was excellent and the food came quickly. I tried something new for me, an eggplant dish because I'm trying to have more veggies in my life. I went with mild because I wasn't sure how spicy it would be, and looking back think I'd have liked medium spice better. That's always tricky for me when ordering Indian because if I've never been to a particular restaurant before it's hard to judge that. Everything was very hot, and while I liked mine I think it just isn't a dish I'd ever love. My friend did love her dish. The two reasons for 3 stars are that they didn't have the buffet even though signage said they did, and that most of the lights were off and ac didn't seem to be running well, I think the doors were open so while it wasn't stifling, it was a little warm for my preference when dining outside. Lunch prices seemed high to me given the portion size, but that's also hard to judge lately with inflation costs. read more

As much as I liked the restaurant 2 years ago, I'm quite disappointed this time. I ordered paneer tikka masala, vegetable samosas, chana masala, naan, and mango lassi, and the food was just... not great. The first one didn't have much paneer which is key in the dish and overall tasted bland. Vegetable samosas and chana masala were ok. I have to give credit to chana masala - the portion would be enough for 1.5 people. Naan was far from anything real naan would taste like - it was more of a rubbery play dough than bread. Lastly, mango lassi was totally watered down and fizzy like soda which means the yogurt they used was fermenting for too long (and potentially unsafe). At this price point, you can go to any other Indian restaurant in the area (Aroma, Little India, India Garden) and get much better food. read more

Historically, India Palace was my go-to Indian restaurant in Indianapolis. The food was great; there was a large menu, and the Sunday night dinner buffet was second-to-none. Over the years, I've eaten hundreds of meals at this restaurant, spending thousands of dollars. I'm old enough to know places change: some get better, while others get worse. For India Palace, it's the latter. The restaurant has changed ownership at least once, and even prior to the pandemic, I noted the quality of their food had tanked. It was salty, less flavorful, and fewer options were available. I quickly avoided the place in favor of other, better Indian restaurants in the neighborhood. I recently returned to India palace with the hopes of enjoying a buffet lunch, a rarity since COVID upended the industry. Outside the restaurant, a sign proudly proclaimed their daily lunch buffet. When I walked in, the buffet was closed, the restaurant was dark, and one other party was eating. When the server approached us, I asked why the buffet wasn't open. I was rudely told they hadn't served a buffet since the pandemic started. I asked why they would have a sign claiming to have something they didn't. The response I got was ludicrous: "We haven't gotten around to taking it down." Really? Since the restaurant had a very limited lunch menu, I departed without ordering. I'm sorry to say it, but I won't eat at India Palace again, and you shouldn't either. read more

I went to the India palace for the excellent lunch buffet. First they offer excellent naan bread freshly made. You can get plain or garlic bread. There is an great self serve buffet that should please almost anyone. I will say I am not a vegetarian but the rare vegetarian items I like are from this restaurant. They have a whole buffet table filled with vegetarian dishes. Next they have another table with the meat entrees. Finally they have the cold table with salad items and at least six different Indian condiments. Also they featured two different soups and several dessert items. When reviewing the buffet it is a real challenge as I tried over 8 or so different items. Many I don't know the names of. Some remember able highlights. The chicken chili was definitely my favorite and I got two servings. Excellent heat and spice I would expect. Also the tandoori chicken is a real favorite of mine. Definite levy less heat. There is one vegetarian item with a creamy sauce and spinach. We had attentive service while we dined here and the dinning room and bar area are well decorated.After two plates of food I got some of the excellent rice pudding and some mango pudding. This was my first visit back here since they remodeled. The new decor is definitely bright and colorful! It is a definite improvement! I love that they offer a buffet on the weekends rather than just lunch during the week. I visited on a Sunday and the food on the buffet was fresh with a good selection of options. Choice of plain or garlic naan is brought to the table as part of the buffet which is great because the naan is fresh then rather than being on the steam table. The buffet was organized into a vegetarian section and a section with meat. The vegetarian selection was great! They had some of the standbys along with a few items I hadn't seen on a buffet before. The meat options also included standards like chicken tikka masala, but did also include goat. The only slightly unusual element was that the goat included a lot of bones; it was a little tricky to eat as the bones were kind of small, so it required being careful. The chicken biryani also included chicken still on the bones, but this was full wing portions, so the issue was just that it was a little messy to eat, but no tiny bones to have to watch for. The flavor of all was good! The desserts were the standard ones, and were nicely done. The carrot pudding was the standout for me. It was fresh, not too sweet, and the texture was perfect. What happened?? My husband and I have been visiting India Palace now for the past year. We moved here from Schaumburg, IL and immediately needed a go-to Indian restaurant. We have been ordering take out from here throughout the past year as well as dined in. Today we order Paneer Tikka Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chole Puri and garlic naan. Our order arrived at our home via GrubHub in a timely manner. Puri and naan we still hot. We opened the gravies (paneer and chicken) and immediately noticed the very light color and watery consistency. Normally these gravies have a rich red-orange color and fairly thicker consistency. We plated the gravies and it was clear that they were runny. The paneer was tasteless, to put make a long story short. The gravy did absolutely nothing for the plain paneer. As my husband put it to me, it seemed that they just chopped up a paneer block and tossed it in some microwaved gravy. The chicken was exactly the same. The gravy had slightly more color to it but that was as good as it got. The chole dish was very plain, however it did have more flavor than the other two dishes. The puri was very oily. The naan was the only item that seemed fresh. In short, our last meal at the restaurant (dine-in) was the thali lunch which both my husband and I loved. Either the owner or the chef even came up to the table to check with us that day to which we told him we were so delighted and impressed. We will not be ordering any food from here in the future. Tucked away in a strip mall on 38th, India Palace is one of our go tos. We've tried multiple dishes from saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, jalfrezi etc. All were flavorful and delicious. Only remark is the dine in service. Typically the restaurant is empty and when there were customers, they were rowdy and staff didn't do anything about it. They do seem short staffed but while service is speedy, staff isn't as friendly. We stick to take out and seems like most customers do as well since their take out orders are very frequent. read more

This business is now under new management. I felt that I could feel the difference in the improved service I found this round versus previous visits. Our visit included the lunch buffet and a fresh made from scratch mango lassi. I really appreciated how the staff kept mentioning that it was made from scratch. Even if it were not, it mentally made me enjoy it even more. Smart marketing and product pride! The lunch buffet featured two soup options, several light and healthy salads, desserts and at least ten entrée options. My favorites were the daal and paneer masala. Unfortunately, the galub jamon could use a little work. It appears that they mixed a fresh batch with an old one which resulted in dense and dry balls rather than the fluffy fresh combo. Maybe it was just my perception with the new management, but the space felt a little more clean and inviting this round. Went around 8pm on a Saturday night. Sadly the place was mostly empty but I'm not sure why. We had garlic naan, saag paneer, chicken korma, and chicken makhani (aka butter chicken). If you want the traditional Americanized Indian cuisine, this is it. Everything we had was delicious! The bowls they serve the entrees in were deceiving because we actually got more than expected. We ended up with left overs because we ordered too much for a group of 3 ladies. I found out the weekday lunch buffets are $9.99 and on Saturdays $10.99. They also gave us a loyalty card when you get 10 stamps you get a free lunch buffet or dinner entree. The card also mentioned the restaurant was under new management. Advertised Dinner buffet... non-existent. Walked in and had to question if it was open because half of the dining area was dark. We were forced to order off the menu. The Spinach was overy salted, mushy like it came from a can and the paneer was rock hard. The Naan was overly salted. The Veggie Samosas tasted of only cumin, had 1 pea each and only potatoes inside and again, overly salted. The Chicken Tikka Masala was like a pile of dogfood in a bowl. It was obviously not fresh... it was shredded chicken from a can. Any part of it that could be considered "Tikka" had the consistency and flavor of Paneer. Again, too much cumin, could not taste any masala spices. The Rice was okay. The Server barely spoke any english and understood even less. He only refilled our water after asking twice, we were the only customers at the time. When he brought out silverware and noticed there were spots on it, instead of replacing them, he just placed them on the table with the spots down, as if we didn't just see him hand us dirty silverware. I used to visit this location weekly when i worked in the area an though it was a dirty little greasy spoon restaurant, the Dinnerware was clean, and the food tasted proper. We will not be returning anytime soon, and I cannot recommend anyone visit... go across the street to India Sizzling, where even thought the flavors are more african than indian, at least you get what you ordered and are treated right. read more

I've ordered chicken vindaloo from this restaurant before and it was very very good however my most recent order was awful. It was a takeout order. Staff is not friendly and both orders of chicken vindaloo were runny and hardly had any chicken. It was more like a soup than a hearty sauce. The rice was Luke warm as if it had been sitting for a while. Anyway, don't like giving gas reviews but not sure we will order from here again. read more

Had stopped at the beauty supply store after church. I've lived on the West side of Indianapolis for many years but had never been to India Palace. So glad I finally stopped in. Was gonna do carry out but realized my food would be cold by the time I got home so decided to dine in. The restaurant was empty when I arrived and was shown to a table. The lady was really very nice and friendly and was attentive even though I was the only customer. I got the samosa, onion pakora and papadi chaat. The food was well cooked though I thought it needed some salt (personal preference). There were two sacues in squeeze bottles as well and I tried only one of them and it was good. Since the sauce was a bit chunky, would have been nice to have it in a bowl as it didn't always come out the bottle when I squeezed. I'll definitely be back to eat again when I am in the area and there are a lot of options to choose from!! read more

How to loose customers 101.... water down the chicken tikka masala so much that instead of thick dark red/orange gray it becomes a new peach/pink color with the consistency of water. I know times are tough in the days with the rona but give me a break. In general quality has been on a downward slide for years. This is so sad and disappointing that another small business is clearly on the brink of failure. Hey India Palace owner listen up!!! You can't run a restaurant penny wise, and pound foolish. I'm probably a typical American diner of Indian food, meaning my knowledge of the cuisine isn't that deep, but everything we ordered from India Palace was great. From the classic (chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani) to being a little more adventuresome (lamb saag and chana poori), we enjoyed the Indian spices and contrast between creamy (the lamb and tikka masala) and tomato-based dishes (chana poori). Just a hint of kick to the spiciness, which was perfect for our taste. And the naan had lots of garlic, which we love. Everything came with a side of basmatic rice, too. We ordered takeout and had it delivered through GrubHub. Delivery was quick and socially distant and the food was still hot. I could promise you, lol, I heard Angels sing during the first bite. Tender meats and curry seasoning like no other. I visited the Indian Palace today with members of the International Marketplace Coalition for dinner. It was awesome! I ordered the Samosas for an appetizer and then shrimp tikka masala for my entree. Everything was delicious! I also got a chance to try some vegetable biryani rice which was VERY GOOD!!! We ordered $65 dollars worth of food. This is the "complimentary " rice we received from India Palace. When my husband took it back to the restaurant he was told this was fine to eat!. This is supposed to be plain basmati rice. What we received looks like they scraped someone's uneaten food from a plate and gave it to us. Then would not even give us fresh rice.
