The " Chicken Tikka Masala" with nuts.
    Philip C.

Update 4/28/24 So I purchased another Chicken Tikka Masala and I brought it home. I compared it to the first dish they gave me. The color was similar, probably because they used more yogurt and yellow curry and less tomatoes (British traditional) vs the Jndian traditional (significant red, tomatoes and acid). However I can definitely verify the first order had nuts in it, as I made my friend who is also Indian confirm. I am unsure of what the first dish they gave me was, but it wasn't what I ordered. The second version was better but still not what I am used to from India Gate. So another possibility is I just don't like their Chicken Tikka Masala anymore. It's not that red we're all used to. Y'all be the judge and comment. Does that look like traditional Chicken Tikka Masala? In addition, I don't care how many times people get sick of me saying this, but the restaurant could have handled this complaint better. Much better. It's very sad how people and patrons get treated, by the restaurants they are loyal to in times of dispute. To be clear I didn't want anything free, I just wanted what I ordered. Or even an apology. Not at this place. Try Spice Garden, Byrani and Co, and AusIndia for alternatives. This is in regards to the Research Blvd location. I am re-reviewing this restaurant. Sadly. I. Normally have a good experience here. However recently, I ordered chicken Tikka Masala, and when I got home it was Chicken Korma. And since I am highly allergic to nuts I could not eat it so I put it in my refrigerator. It was passed closing time so I did not call them or bother them. I called them the minute I got home from work, and the lady sounded very accusatory. And in addition wanted me to go all the way home to bring the old chicken korma back to exchange for chicken tikka masala. I even asked to speak to the manager or owner whenever convenient. She stated no. I just called the location requesting for my actual chicken tikka masala you know, something I can eat. I attempted to call you India Gate to just diplomatically. But since I have the actually food container I'm sure that says "CTM" which is obviously Korma that could medically hurt me, I may pursue legal counsel instead. Also the Smart- Ass ladies told me they "never wrote CTM" on their food. Accusing the food to not be theirs. So after I received the order I paid for again, I showed them that they yet again wrote the same "CTM" on their container. They said "sure." Lol I am writing this on here, for everyone in the community to know, that you should always try to do the right thing, and give privately owned business the chance to correct their mistakes even if fatal. But if they will not even let you speak to a manager or owner, sometimes you have to go the legal route. The level of dismissiveness by both employees was so bad I am actually taking the time to write this, for all of you to know. Oh sinister: I went by, the ladies wanted me to go all the way home and bring it back. So I asked my sister to bring it back. I went ahead and ordered the same chicken Tikka Masala and got a completely different item. So conveniently enough they also lost my receipts. And food order from the night before. It's all a little too convenient. Do not go here. You have many other options that will respect your claims (and I've gone here for years). You have better options that take American AA dining advantage. And you have better options that make rice that is not stale. The food here was fairly descent but the way they handles this, for a loyal customer , was so upsetting that we're just going to go elsewhere and pursuit legal action correctly. For all you foodies: don't tip unless you get good service. Don't keep going somewhere unless the food is amazing and they will work with you from time to time. Your money is far too valuable. Ambiance: at least it looks clean.

This is a review for food pickup for one dish so I feel a little guilty writing it but I guess not writing it does not help anyone either. Picked up Chicken majestic on Friday evening to go with beer growler I got from Slackers and the dish was aptly named. The chicken was really majestic and the portion size was larger than expected too. I asked for medium spicy which was good but next time I would try spicier option.

Sunday buffet. Decent biryani, goat curry and Paneer dish. Too many items to try . Tandoori chicken was average. Desserts - mango soufflé kind of thing -was not bad. Overall, I would have preferred fewer dishes , and slightly better quality pieces. Worth a try if you're in the neighborhood.

It used to be a 5, but now it's a 3 Food: It was good but was not as good as it used to be. I guess they change the chef or something. If you have never had Indian food, I think this is a good place to start. They have weekend and weekday buffets so you can try a variety of food (weekend has less options). They also serve naan to your table as week. They change the food every time, so I recommend checking out their Facebook for a menu of the day. Service: They go the job done quick and they are very nice. Location: One point I would like to note is that their floor is very slippery so watch out! Price: It's gotten quite expensive. $15 for weekday buffet lunch. 17$ for weekend. I have no complain if the quality of food remained the same, but it had not. So I'm a bit disappointed

This is part of the buffet! This plate has Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Chicken 65, Chilli Chicken and Plain Naan

I don't know what the reviews are going on about in this yelp.. i went here on a whim despite the negative reviews and I have to say it's the best buffet in Austin. I've gone to pretty much every buffet in Austin. Heck the buffet here is better than some made to order Indian restaurant. This place made me distrust yelp actually because I couldn't believe how bad the reviews were. I don't know if they switched owners or what happened. Also the service is amazing and its kept very clean. Price for buffet is very reasonable probably about the same as a golden corral but instead of frozen food you're getting custom amazingly seasoned Indian food. They rotate the menu so theres always something new to find. I will say I've never had the made to order a la cart menu only buffet so my review is based on that.

I asked for my order to be not spicy because I have a toddler to feed as well and unfortunately it was still moderately spicy, so my toddler wasnt able to eat the main dishes :/ The chicken tikka masala was okay, pretty tomato forward and felt a lil bland. The chicken was tender though. Same with the saag paneer. they did give me a good portion for both entrees but it was also not as flavorful as some others ive had. dont think I would come back. Would probably try a different spot next time. In the past I have had Northern Indian food that is creamier and the flavor profiles are pretty different. This spot isnt bad though. Samosas were average nothing crazy, the potato filling was bland and outer shell could have been crispier. They also did not give any chutney for the samosas which was a bit disappointing as well.

They have an overwhelming selection of biryanis with no description, so we consulted ChatGPT for advice. I did ask the server, but he didn't really explain any of the options and just recommended one. It would've been helpful for the menu to have just a little description of each type of biryani for those unfamiliar with it. I got the chicken dum biryani because it seemed like a simple, basic option. It was delicious. I asked for it less spicy, which just means they add more rice, and it was great for my wimpy tasty buds. My friend got the goat dum biryani. The portion was huge and great for two meals for me, while it was three meals for my slender friend. We also got the garlic naan, which was really cripsy and tasty. I prefer softer naan, but my friend loved the crisp. They gave us room temperature water, and I eventually asked if they had ice because my mouth was on fire. They brought me a small cup of ice. I think I really needed a whole pitcher of ice water to help temporarily cool my mouth (I know it doesn't actually help with the spice, but it feels like it does). The server was okay but didn't help us with explaining the dishes after we asked. We were also so confused if we were supposed to go up to pay at the counter or not, and we waited at least 15 minutes before finally going up there. The server instantly followed us and asked what we needed. Turns out they are supposed to come to your table when you pay.

Before going, we browsed the online menu, and what immediately caught my attention was the focus on the west coast of India, especially Goa, Mangalore, and Kerala. It was refreshing to see something beyond the usual North Indian or standard South Indian fare that most restaurants tend to offer. We were tempted to order widely, but in the end we chose two starters and one entrée. The mushroom and paneer starters were both excellent, yet very different from each other. The paneer was smooth and rich, almost comforting in its finish, while the mushroom dish had a gentle tang that brightened every bite. The contrast worked beautifully. For the entrée, we chose the Bunt Kori Gassi, a Mangalorean chicken dish. The flavors were delicate and well balanced, with spices that enhanced rather than overwhelmed. We paired it with Malabar parottas and aappams, which were perfect for soaking up the gravy. Even the complimentary rice stood out. It was not the usual basmati, but a more local variety, a small detail that showed the thoughtfulness behind the meal. The sol kadhi, made with kokum, brought back memories of home. It had that familiar cooling tang that is hard to replicate. We finished with mango kulfi, which was subtle, not overly sweet, and a gentle way to end the meal. The chef came out to greet us personally, which made the experience even more meaningful. He explained that they use mostly organic ingredients and avoid artificial colors. We shared our appreciation for both the food and the service and left hoping they continue to maintain these standards. The menu is already being expanded, including a section for more traditional Indian restaurant offerings. We are looking forward to returning and exploring more of what they have to offer.

It wasn't like any soup I've had before, so description is a bit tough. It was fairly spicy to start with, but less so as I kept eating it. The only things I could identify was ground up horse gram, some sweet onions, and some thinly shaved ginger, but it had a lot of complexity. Highly recommend that and the rose milk (especially if you need some relief from the spiciness when you start out.) I had a little bit of my friend's butter chicken sauce, and that was excellent too. More heavily tomato-based than I'm used to, but a lot of depth of flavor. I'd happily order that in the future. I can't wait to come back and try their buffet when my diet restrictions are over :) Service was great. One of the most memorable dishes we had was a special that our server highly recommended--and it was truly a showstopper. I wish I had gotten the exact name because I can't find it on their online menu, but visually and flavor-wise it was stunning. It came wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf, layered with rich, velvety saag, what tasted like thin dosa or chapati layers, egg, aromatic spices, tender chunks of meat, and curry, all melded together into this beautifully perfumed, steamy package. It was served with a cooling yogurt sauce and a chili sauce that balanced the heat perfectly. The presentation alone was gorgeous, and the flavors were deep, earthy, and incredibly comforting. We also ordered the curry goat, which was delicately spiced with a wonderful, slow-building heat. The meat was tender, the gravy rich without being heavy, and it paired perfectly with the simple white rice that let the complex spices shine. The tandoori goat chops were the family favorite by far. Everyone loved the smoky char and bold marinade. Personally, I found them a bit softer than I prefer, but the flavor was outstanding--robust, well-seasoned, and unmistakably tandoori. Finally, we ordered the Tandoori Pomfret to go, and I had it later with rice porridge. It was absolutely scrumptious. The fish was fragrant, beautifully spiced, and still juicy, making it the perfect comfort meal with the warm, soothing porridge. Overall, Subham Chettinad Grill delivers authentic, soulful Indian cooking with layers of spice, heat, and aroma that feel both traditional and thoughtfully prepared.
