Worst experience, Very poor customer service. I had placed the ordered online through phone and been told that the order will be ready by 30-40min. I been at the restaurant after 55min from placing the order and since they made me to wait for 25more and then lady at the checkout says that they don't have the item which i ordered for and was checking if she can replace with anything else and suddenly the guy from inside comes with my original order which clearly shows there is no proper coordination between team. Also on the online post they mentioned there is some desert which will be given with every order placed but i don't see anything in the packet. One of the item which i placed was Apollo fish which was very in poor in quality and and less in quantity for the price i paid. I will not come over here again. read more

Being from India I go here regularly for the Friday afternoon Indian food. My week feels like incomplete without my Friday afternoon buffet. The food is extremely good. The buffet has lots of options four or more chicken dishes, a few fish dishes, plenty of vegetarian options, curries, vegetable, naan, chicken and veg biriyani and Indian sweets. No matter what your preference in Indian food the buffet is likely to have it. There is a Indian vibe to the place with Indian movie songs playing in the background. We order Indian takeout about once a month and India Gate is quickly becoming the regular. We enjoy our regular chicken tikka masala and kadai paneer. Their garlic naan is always spot on. I usually order a new to me dish and have been pleased with them. There are some dishes that are a lot spicier than expected but most have a decent heat level. My only "negative" would be the seasoned rice which I don't care for (but they do sub plain rice, thanks!) but my husband really likes the seasoned rice, personal preference. We were in the hunt for a good curry place since its getting colder in Austin. We stumbled across this place, who is in the same Plaza as Dimassi where we often eat and decided to give it a try. The menu is confusing since there is no picture and for novices like us, even googling the entrées was not helpful.. So we decided to stick with what we know and usually order : a vindaloo and a biriyani. We opted for the ghee roast goat biriyani and the chicken vindaloo. The chef told us that Naan were complimentary with the vindaloo and would pair well. Everything was absolutely amazing and delicious! We tried several places in Austin so far and will now only go to this one from now on : great portion, so many flavors, the right amount of spiciness (the chef chose medium for us which was a solid 6/10). Because of covid, ustensiles and plates were plastic but it didn't take away from how good the food was. Highly recommend! read more

Don't try to repair/modify Paneer tikka gravy (or paneer butter masala gravy) and make it a Kadai paneer. It doesn't work. Customers will know. If u don't have a specific. Item or don't have time/energy/interest to make, tell it to customer straight away. Nowhere in the world Kadai paneer will be sweet. Please save your shortcuts for customers taking discounts or delivery orders through 3rd party apps where u give discounts to customers. Went there today about 12:30 pm. No staff was available to seat us for about 10 minutes, we were just ignored by the clerk that was handing out online orders. Eventually we were shown to a table after asking the clerk what was going on. Then we were ignored another 10 minutes. No menus, no water, no service at all of any kind. There were staff standing around not doing anything as far as we could tell. We got up and left after 10 minutes with out service. It was a disappointment, and I suppose we will not return. I've been getting takeout from here at least once a week for the last few months. Dishes are flavorful and quantity is generous consistently. They pay attention to special requests while making the dish like "less oil" or "more veggies" and the requested spice levels so you can customize the dish to your taste. We ordered Paneer Kadai, Baghara Baigan, Ved Dum Biryani and plain naan. 1. Kadai Paneer - Pros - The quantity of paneer was generous. The quality of paneer was quite good too. The taste was quite good too Cons - The vegetables were less The gravy was little runny. Paneer kadai should have a thick base like the masala and gravy is literally stick to paneer and vegetables. 2. Baghara Began. This was awesome. No complain. 3. Veg Dum Biryani Pros - The rice quality was very good The spice was excellent. Cons - I wish if they could use fresh vegetables such as Poteto, Carrot, cauliflower. Pls fix the Horrible customer service. First time, they gave me something totally different than what was ordered. 2nd time, Pick up order placed 30 mins ahead and after waiting for 30 mins, they come and tell me that they dont have that item. While the food, menu and ambience is quite good, the customer service, possibly due to short staffing in light of the pandemic needs addressing. The owner was responsible enough to actually call me and hear out the concerns and address them. So, thank you for that and hope to give this place more tries and have a better experience that I know can be provided. read more

Worst food I ever had in Austin. I ordered chicken dum biryani and pepper chicken (both spicy). The biryani didn't have anything else other than chicken pieces and food color (it was so bland). If I could give zero stars I would. I was excited to try this place after reading some of the reviews. We were seated right next to a group of people and it was def not 6 feet apart it didn't really bother me, but possibly for some. They had a few guys that played music which I always enjoy since I haven't had a chance to be out in awhile. The music was just a little too loud that I couldn't even talk to my boyfriend or even hear him. I am all for music just not at that level while dining. It wouldn't been nice to get some water while we waited for 25 min and no one came to ask us our orders. I sat there patiently seeing them both walk by and taking care of tables right next to us and I tried to get both of the employees attention they just did not even look at us. I just could not believe that after her seating us that she did not come once to check on us. My family has had a business for over 20 years and I would never treat any of my guests like that. We finally just got up and left and as we were walking out the door we went on the other side where the to go section was and I told the man that he needed to clean out table where we sat bc we didn't get any service at all. He didn't seem to really care and did not apologize. I will never step foot in this establishment again. I love Yak and Yeti (a little far) and Himalaya Kosheli (really close to this place) will continue to take my business elsewhere. read more

I was blown away by how good the food was. The naan tastes fresh out of the oven and the chicken tikka masala was THE BEST I've ever had. We also tried the chili gobi (fried cauliflower) and curry goat. Don't get me started on the gulab jamun. If you're trying Indian cuisine for the first time or already have a love affair with it like me, you HAVE to try this place. It's great that they are also fairly priced. The food is very good and very close to authentic South Indian. I can tell from Sambar, it is one of the very best Sambars I have had lately. Also all of the breakfast items I tasted were extremely good. Would recommend Poori Masala and Mysoor Bonda To try. They are surely the top of the chart!
