Indaba is great; fun atmosphere, yummy food, and awesome, awesome coffee! They make my favorite cup in Spokane :) A year or two ago, this would've easily been a 5 star review, but sadly some of my favorite things about Indaba have changed. When they first started out, Indaba claimed to be a place to build community , but now they seem much more profit-focused. In small ways, they have abandoned much of their original hospitality and customer service. They will no longer toast your bagel (muffin, etc) for you, serve water without another purchase, and the owner and staff have lost their warm, friendly attitudes. They seem to be catching a little bit of the "coffee snob" bug. That said, they still rock! Their coffee is that good. The rest of this stuff, is for you, Indaba... please revisit some of your old ways! read more

I give huge props to Bobby of Indaba for playing a big part in starting a coffee renaissance in the Inland Northwest, following the trends you'll find in Portland and San Francisco. First of all, he and all the baristas employed are pros. Every drink is handcrafted to perfection. These guys understand coffee and represent it as well as you can. They bring in the best coffees you'll find, selecting only the best offerings from the best roasters. It should be noted also that the 'Inland Northwest Thursday Night Throwdown' barista series was started by Bobby and his team. This has had a big impact on other cafes opening in the area, and really has brought the coffee community closer. Indaba sets the bar for other cafes to try to follow! read more

Indaba is the ultimate meeting place. I see the owner extending a hand not only to the most vulnerable community members but also to some of the most well established members. In a sense, Indaba has created a meeting place for all community members. I come here to study (I counted 47 outlets), to meet cohorts and colleagues, and to be with people I am doing life with. Every time I come to Indaba, I know that the mission is driving the coffee, so it makes me happy to pay a little extra. The coffee ruins me it is so delightful. I typically drink a vanilla mocha. The smooth rich blend of homemade vanilla and cacao is a perfect complement to the highest quality blends of coffee. I would recommend Indaba as a meeting place for any community member. read more

Bobby knows his beans. By chance my normal stop for a flat white was busy and I missed my turn. I saw Indaba and had to stop. Wow, am I glad I did. I ordered my standard double-shot with 2 ounces steamed milk and no foam. He replied 'oh, a cortado.' I replied with 'I like how the Aussie's call it a flat white.' He was the first barista to even know what this was! He convinced me to pause and enjoy my drink from a traditional glass. From there we talked about brewing methods, beans, local roasters and great tasting coffee. Indaba is fantastic. The espresso was perfectly balanced with nice Carmel overtones and a great richness. The non-homogenized milk from Othello was a great compliment to the coffee. Absolutely the best coffee bar in Spokane, very knowledgeable and pleasant. The place to go to enjoy a great coffee from any of the available brewing methods. read more

Indaba is the first serious coffee bar I found in Spokane. Not only that, but they excel at going about their high class gourmet brewing without all the snobbish airs of coffee aficionados. They are leading the way in the fight to educate Spokane about the subtleties of coffee. They are constantly improving and changing. They make the courageous choice to be on the cutting edge of coffee even before Spokane is ready for it. It's worked out for them well, even when I fear that there isn't a market for gourmet coffee here yet. They use quality beans from several local roasters. They are doing a great job at encouraging healthy competition between local roasters in order to improve the quality of the entire region. Their baristas are top-notch, know what they are doing and are passionate about coffee. More and more, Indaba is becoming a shop just about coffee. They sell baked goods and lunch fare, but it is from local bakers and shops and is no longer made by the baristas. They are striving to be the best at what they do, and so far it has worked. read more

In search of locally produced coffee, I stumbled across Indaba. The gentleman who helped me at the register let me taste (but not smell) the roasts that they had in stock, which to me was disappointing because there are many ways to brew coffee, so the taste of one particular brewing method is different than the next. I found all of their roasts to be too light, but I still decided to purchase what the cashier recommended as their darkest roast. Initially, I was rather disappointed with it. Using either a French press or aeropress with it yielded coffee that was so light, that it tasted like a tea. While some people may desire this type of taste, it was certainly not what I was expecting for the darkest roast at a coffee shop. However, I do have to say that this roast makes some excellent expresso. It is not overly bitter and it has a very smooth taste. This is not a good place to go if you are looking for any type of special blends or roasts. In fact, I would say that the defining characteristic of their coffee is the lack of any type of special taste. That being said, I think it's not fair to evaluate this business based on the quality of their coffee, but rather on the effectiveness of their entire business model. Indaba seems to be very involved in the local community. I believe that they donate to a local food bank with every pound of coffee purchased, which explains the prices of their products. While the coffee at Indaba may not be something that wows you, the ethics behind the business are what separates it from other coffee places in Spokane. I hope that in the future, they expand their selection of coffee and develop their own niche blend and flavor. read more

The people are always good but if that cup of coffee is done right by the barista it can't be better in Spokane. Came here on a busniss trip for a conference. Good coffee, great little snacks, inexpensive and offered some variety to their latte flavors. The restaurants around the arena got a little packed, so the 15 minute walk to get away from the crowd was totally worth it. They had a dill potato salad that was pretty tasty. Great little coffee shop that is near the courthouse and the upcoming Kendal Yards neighborhood. I love their caramel lattes. The caramel sauce is made in house and is a treat! the coffee here is good! i also like the barista working at night each time i come, she comes off as very genuine. i usually go for the kendall yards latte. the space always feels laidback as well, spacious so you can find a spot to sit down rather than cramped. i didn't feel a rush to get up for others. read more

I went in on a weekend, the coffee was alright and decently priced. The problem was the music! The guy was blasting what sounded like Sylvester Stalone after a stroke singing Christmas carols! And it was CD so you couldn't get away from it and was loud enough that I couldn't focus on anything else. The guy working was commenting on how no one was in there. I'm guessing it's because he'd been chasing everyone away with that terrible music! I talked to a friend of mine and he had the same experience. read more

I loved it better when it shared space with a bookstore but even after the change the coffee is amazing. The service is fantastic, never snooty or snobby. Tremendous appreciation of quality and roasting on site!
