They have a great selection of multiple drip coffees to choose from, which I thought was a nice touch compared to only 1-2 drip options at other coffee shops. I went with the Bowl & Pitcher blend, which has notes of toffee, milk chocolate, and honey--a smooth cup with little acidity. I picked up a bag of their Lilac City beans and I'm excited to continue sipping imbaba back home! Stopped in to Indaba Coffee with my sister after visiting the spa. We each ordered the breakfast bagel with bacon and she a chai and myself a drip coffee. The drinks were good and the food came out relatively quick but unfortunately I was pretty unimpressed with the breakfast bagel. The bagel didn't appear toasted as I would have assumed (I guess shame on me for assuming) and the bacon was very lackluster. Great spot, love their spicy chai! They are close to the Gamers Haven which is awesome, but when I visited they closed earlier than I would have liked. This place does have a little free library inside and offers free WiFi, and I think it would make a decent writing spot, especially because the seating would lend well to write-ins (think NaNoWriMo)! However, they have locked bathrooms which are seemingly for customers only. This knocks a star off from my review -- everyone should have access to bathrooms and running water. read more

This is one of the two locations in Spokane. I got the house-made butterscotch latte. It was very good. You could taste the butterscotch but it didn't taste like syrup or super sugary. The baristas were very friendly and kind. The shop itself would be a great place to meet a friend, get some work done or just stop in real quick. Definitely a big city coffeehouse. Baristas said that they are opening a new store downtown across from Macy's and that this location has been here for five years. No worries about parking or paying to park at this location. My caramel latte was very smooth with no overly sugary taste and yes beautiful latte art. Stay-here ceramic cups are definitely a plus, and they have almond milk as an option, which will be next on my list of "to-try" when I'm back in the area. The eclectic furnishings (mismatched chairs and well-used tables) with the bookstore pull together a urban hip setting that is typically found in big cities. I had a vanilla latte and my wife had a mocha latte. Both were incredibly smooth like I've never experienced. Both were very tasty as well. My guess is that they use homemade flavorings. I love this location for a great study spot. Plenty of tables and a warm, welcoming environment. The staff are always friendly and there's a sense of community/neighborhood feel; every time I come to this location I overhear at least one person talking to the staff like they're a regular. Not only is this specific location a great spot to hang out, but Indaba's coffee is amazing too! Even just an americano tastes great and their seasonal drink menu keeps things new and fresh. There's no privacy policy at the register stating they give away your personal information. I said NO to a digital receipt...literally, I paid by visa and they took that as permission to give away my phone number, email name and who knows what other information. How much of a discount did Square give this coffee shop in exchange for violating their customers privacy? Indaba serves the best lattes in town. They use Bumper Crop beans, which I really like and their baristas know how to time their shots, heat the milk to the perfect temp and serve up some latte art. I had almost given up hope when it comes to Spokane's coffee scene until I happened upon this shop. I would love to see them offer single origin roasts for those of us who are serious about our espresso but I understand that there's limited space for grinders and there aren't that many coffee connoisseurs in the neighborhood yet. I'm not sure what Indaba stands for, but it should have some esoteric meaning that resonates coffee. I am going to go with the important conference of tribal leaders (Zulu or Xhosa). That Spokane merits such an important meeting house is indicative of the quality of the coffee being served. It also has a lesser meaning, that of a meeting or parley. So, I think that this coffee house wishes for all who visit to enjoy the coffee and indulge in an opportunity to meet and greet your fellow coffee drinkers. This coffee house could be moved to a larger city and would fit in perfectly with the hipster crowd. The whole vibe is aimed at the young and upwardly mobile with a hint of rebelliousness. The coffee tastes a little different from other coffees in other places. That alone makes this a place that everyone should visit at least once. The baristas who greeted me were knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant. They were there to help you and to make you a great cup of coffee. You were not interrupting their day because they were there to make your experience wonderful. There is also a collection of new and used books available for sale in the second half of the shop. One half coffee shop, one half book store. You can also buy chocolate and muffins and other interesting foods if you are hungry. I am a true Starbucks groupie but do enjoy sampling the unique coffees at local establishments. This is definitely one of the best local coffee shops in Spokane and the Pacific Northwest. What a very fun experience my daughter included me into. Netflix sponsored only two locations in Washington State to promote the return of Gilmore Girls series. Indaba agreed to dress up as Luke's, the coffee shop in the series, for the day. And boy did they get a phenomenal response. I was so pleased that they had their regular menu so I could enjoy consuming their Staccato. Their own home made Vanilla Bean Syrup, a huge fresh hunk of lemon zest, sparkling water and espresso. Nope. Their coffee is excellent, both the whole bean, the cold brew, and the coffee beverages. It's an exceptional product. But you cannot -- CANNOT -- coast on the product alone. I've been a customer at this location, the downtown location, and the booth at the Kendall Yards Night Market. I'm a city person and a frequent patron of coffee houses worldwide, so I'm used to bad service and surly baristas. I don't write negative reviews on one bad experience, unless it was egregious. I gave Indaba ample opportunities to NOT make my purchasing experience incite rage sufficient to burn the place to the ground. They have failed consistently across the board. (1) A recent experience at the Kendall Yards booth is pretty much indicative of the service you can expect. I waited for approximately twenty minutes in the hot sun while the desperate boothie tried to get in the pants of the two women in front of me, plying them with samples of the cold brew. They didn't buy anything. They didn't give him a phone number. They didn't even friend him on Facebook. I wanted to buy a bottle of concentrated cold brew ($15-$16 a bottle, depending on which employee sells it to you, no kidding) and clearly, a paying customer is far less of a priority for some dumb little boy than finding someone to polish his knob. (2) I went in to buy beans. I wanted a specific brew, and I was looking to them for advice and suggestions. And -- are you kidding me? -- the people working the front counter don't know much about the coffee they sell. And they don't sell pounds, or half pounds, or any other measure, more or less. They sell 3/4 pounds. And it's over there. (Points vaguely.) They sell COFFEE. And the people taking your credit card DON'T KNOW OR UNDERSTAND THE PRODUCT. They can make a drink costing $4-$5, but don't seem interested in selling a $20 bag of coffee beans that isn't a full pound. It's like a auto dealership focusing their business on seat covers. Really? To the precious little cupcakes at Indaba - If I want attitude, I'll go to Atticus. I may get a barista with the perky personality of a cornered wolverine, but they KNOW THEIR COFFEE. They can talk about the beans they sell with the expertise of an experienced sommelier, even to the descriptives used in describing wine. If I want good beans, I'll forgo the convenience factor, and drive to Doma in Post Falls. That's right -- I'd rather go to another state than deal with your crap. If I want cold brew, Roast House's bottled F Bomb is excllent, and I'd much rather give them my business. After my experience today, the cop who stopped me on the Maple Street Bridge going 50 said he understood why I was angry and that he avoids Indaba, and suggested another nearby coffee house. And the people at that coffee house had some interesting/negative gossip about certain employees at Indaba. And suggested a couple other places to get beans. That says it all. read more

Indaba is a gem. They are a neighborhood, socially conscious, micro-roaster and coffee house. First of all, they have some amazing coffees. They feature beans from all over the world but specialize in African beans. Roasted to perfection and brewed using any method you want. They do specialty coffee in a down to earth, approachable way. Not only is their coffee fantastic, but they do a lot of good for the community as well. Bobby (the owner) hires only members of the neighborhood and work with at risk youth. They also pair with the local food bank and provide a meal for a family in need for every pound of coffee sold.
