In-Heat took 6+ months to finish installing a brand new heating system that Dave Thomas (owner) sold us, which doesn't work properly. No shows, no replies, mistakes with install, and never returned to finish or fix the system - though we paid him in full, in advance, AND gave him extra money to move vents,etc. Its been almost a year and he hasn't returned to do the job, responded to our constant calls and texts, or returned the extra money for the job he didn't do. We even threatened a lawsuit. No reply. PLEASE, do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from In-Heat!! Illegitimate, Unethical, and Untrustworthy, with questionable skills. I'd give Dave Thomas / In-Heat negative stars if possible. Instead, try Joe Hennesy 530-386-2867 and/or Blake Marshall 530-562-1708. After more than six months of no-shows and unreturned calls, I've given up hope that they will ever complete my job. Dave is a nice guy and I believe he genuinely means well. But results are what matters, and the results so far: Only 1/2 of the system I hired him to install is functional Someone on his crew accidentally broke a hole in my drywall and didn't repair it The condensate lines aren't connected, dripping water all over my patio The soffit he promised to install to hide the coolant lines was never completed What he has completed has been done well, but that's hardly a consolation. read more

To frame this review... I have worked for a commercial construction company for 20 years, and have remodeled four homes. As such, I am no stranger to contracting with companies large and small, good and bad. As another reviewer mentioned, I tend not to write negative reviews as there are often two sides to every story and vendors can stumble on occasion. However, after having just "completed" our project, I can say that working with Dave Thomas at InHeat was easily the worst I have ever experienced. It is interesting to see the progression of reviews over the past couple years, going from reputable, to deplorable. Dave is over his head as a business owner. His only saving grace is that he knows how to install, and he is well intentioned.... the only reason I was willing to stick it out til the end. Our project was supposed to start in June 2018 and take two weeks. Six months of headaches later and it is finally finished. Like the other bad reviews: 1. Makes false commitments 2. Will cut corners. You need to monitor the work to ensure it is installed correctly. 3. Talks a lot about his personal struggles (I was initially sympathetic, but then it just made me angry as he was laying on guilt trips) 4. Has no helpers as he doesn't know how to properly schedule his work. If you don't have schedule constraints, and you don't mind being lied to, give him a go. I made the mistake of hiring Dave based on one reference and the positive reviews you'll also see here. Based on my experience, I don't think he's capable of doing good work anymore. Dave initially said our job would take just a few days. Instead, I had months of "misleading communication" about the status of the job (Dave strongly objected when I accused him of lying, so I'll grant him that much), frequent no shows, and many agreed upon deadlines that were always missed with an endless series of excuses. I finally gave up on Dave and hired another HVAC contractor to assess and complete his work, and what a mess Dave left... A damper valve wasn't operating properly because the wires were reversed. He vented the kitchen fan into the wall and never bothered to bring it outside. He claimed to have serviced the furnace but he didn't. On top of all that, the new HVAC contractor is sadly familiar with Dave's work as they've cleaned up after several of his jobs. There's really no knowing what other corners he cut until we dig deeper - so I'll have to update this review as more things come up! He also left behind several cosmetic fixes - tiling, flooring, cabinetry - that he repeatedly promised would be perfect, but that he ultimately wouldn't finish over the course of three months. He also left a 30-foot piece of rebar behind in my yard as well as various wood scraps that I'll have to haul away myself. I do not write negative reviews lightly and prefer to use Yelp and similar things for people deserving a boost from positive reviews. In the past I've had less-than-great experiences from contractors and small businesses and I've chosen not to write negative, or even neutral, reviews to give them the benefit of the doubt. But in this case I really need to steer fellow homeowners far, far away from In-Heat. Maybe Dave's done decent work in the past, but it seems like he's been breaking bad most of this year, and based on his misleading communications, no shows, and sloppy work, he has no business being in this or any other business. read more

Dave and his crew are amazing! He really knows his stuff! He returned our call at 10 pm on a Sunday night when our heater wasn't working. He was able to diagnose the problem right away. He also pointed out ways to increase the efficiency of our system. He was able to come out next day to repair and improve our forced air system. They worked until 9pm at night to get the job done. We now have an amazing heating system. Our downstairs bedroom are finally warm. And Dave's prices are very fair. I can't recommend In-Heat enough! read more

If you are looking for an HVAC Contractor that is unreliable, unprofessional, lacks any attention to detail, and is apparently incompetent, look no further than In-Heat. We, unfortunately, hired them to install a whole house Humidifier. Literally, the day after we paid them, we noticed that the unit was not working. We called Dave Thomas, who claims to be the owner of In-Heat, and he said he would be over that very afternoon, or the next morning. He not even only did not show up at either appointment, he didn't even bother to call. I left two more messages for him, with no reply. After another week and a half, I contacted another local HVAC Contractor to come over to try to get this new Humidifier running. In less than 10 minutes this contractor discovered that the wiring in the unit, which is preset to 240 volts at the factory, had not been re-set to the 120 volts that In-House hooked it up to. In less than a half hour, this contractor had the unit running. Now, after stopping various water leaks which weren't apparent previously because the unit wasn't running, we are trying to reposition a steam line that was installed incorrectly, and is apparently causing water to leak from an air duct. By the way, Dave finally called this past Tuesday and made a commitment to come by on Wednesday. Guess what? He was a no show again! What a joke. read more

Dave is a very nice man. Albeit, unprofessional and inconsistent. His cell phone mailbox is full, contact and communication with him is average at best. He mentioned his schedule was busy, but promised he could fit in our project and get it done promptly. After collecting a down payment, This was sadly not the case. 2 weeks have gone by since the promised finished date and there has still been no work done besides the initial setup. I like Dave, but his service has been downright punishable and unfortunately would not recommend him. read more

Dave designed and installed a brand new heating system in our house that has been working excellent for a 3-rd winter straight! Our house is rather small and quite a few things had to be modified and restructured in order the heating system to fit in. Dave was able to figure out all of it and did a excellent job at competitive pricing. One more thing worth to mention is that Dave has a personal touch to his work. He genially cares about quality of his work and his customers as well. Very unique combination that is getting harder and harder to find these days! read more

These guys are great. Dave Thomas did a fantastic job. As anyone in the area knows, getting people to show up is a battle, but Dave had everything coordinated with electricians, charging, and installation. From first meeting him at estimate, he was professional and knowledgeable. At install, they were prepared, did great looking work and cleaned up after themselves. I had gotten a few estimates, In-Heat wasn't the cheapest, nor was he the most expensive, but he was on time, did great work and finished on time. I'm very satisfied with the work. Five Stars! Excellent customer service. Found water leaking onto the bed in our guest bedroom two days before our granddaughters were coming to visit. Called Jeff's Roofing who came out right away. They found a rusted out and leaking furnace vent pipe in the attic that needed to be replaced.. Called one highly rated furnace repair company and was told they were very busy and couldn't get to me for over two weeks. Called another recommended company, they were nice ,said they would call back, and never did. With rain and snow in the forecast I went on Yelp and called In-Heat based on the three excellent reviews. The owner, Dave Thomas, was at our house within 30 minutes of my calling. He greeted me with a smile, handed me his business card, put on booties to keep our house clean and went into our attic. Dave diagnosed the problem as a leaking vent pipe cap and collar which had rusted out the vent pipe in the attic He checked the furnace and explained in detail what needed to be done, with a "not to exceed" estimate. Dave, his uncle and his son came back the next day with all the parts needed to replace the vent pipe, cap and collar. They were friendly, professional and completed the job in three hours, under the estimate. They even painted the new vent pipe the correct color to keep the Tahoe Donner Architectural Standards office happy.. Dave insisted on coming back after the next big storm to go back up into the attic to make sure there are no leaks. As I said, excellent customer service and i wouldn't hesitate to use In-Heat again or recommend them. read more

Dave and his crew did a heater installation in July 2016. We had several problems with the installation, but Dave--if you could reach him--rectified most of them. The biggest problem has been getting the paperwork required by the county and the state completed. My permit expires in 2 months, and it remains incomplete. When we hired him, he said he knew how to do the new environmental paperwork, but he didn't. I f not for the paperwork issue, I would have given him 4 stars. read more

I contracted with In-Heat to replace an old furnace in a recently purchased home in Truckee. Dave did the initial assessment and gave us good advice on selecting a replacement furnace. He also noted that our dryer was not venting properly (it was blowing into the crawl space) and he remedied that as well when he did the furnace installation. This is a family business and in the course of our project we met three generations. The entire team was professional, fast and clean (important because this was a very messy job!).
