I had a great night out at improv asylum! Very entertaining and well run show. I appreciated the reasonable prices and options for drinks and snacks. Super cool that your ticket also works as a voucher for a free espresso martini shooter at Umbria afterward! Great value for a fun night out

Absolutely hilarious. I saw the improv show on a Thursday night by myself. I bought tickets at the door and was let downstairs to where the stage theater area is. They have a bar in the back and the staff was very friendly. The improv comedians are amazing. I'm always so impressed at people who can do improv, because it requires intelligence, timing and quick thinking. They took audience prompts and suggestions to build the plots and situations of their skits. I laughed so hard.It was very therapeutic. Highly recommend.

When we first got here, we realized that we bought tickets for the wrong night. However, the staff was so accommodating that we were able to buy another set of tickets for that night and get a refund for the ones we bought. The show itself was funny! I love how quick the actors are on thinking on their feet. There are some skits that are scripted while the others are completely improv with audience participation/suggestion. They do a lot of that, so be prepared to be a part of the show, at least to the extent of shouting out some suggestions. I thought it was cool they had costumes and props to help elevate the scenes (don't worry, no spoilers here) What's nice about the "stage" is that it's right in front of you. The audience is seated in 4 sections to create a square and inside that square is where all the actors are. It gives it a very intimate feel, so even though there may be 200 other people in the room, it doesn't feel that way. The seats themselves are pretty comfy, they're standard metal folding chairs with a cushion for your butt. The bar is fully stocked and I love the seasonal drinks they had to offer. I got the "Witch, Please" (picture attached with other options) Overall, this is a really cute date night filled with lots of laughs

Ask the Community - Improv Asylum

Can we take a 15 year old and a 12 year old to this?

I am pretty sure you can. When I went during their Saturday afternoon show there was a child there who was getting ready to start middle school in a few weeks. Not all of the content was appropriate but I think she made it out okay.

Most helpful was having Brett review my work at different points during the process, and offer advice on how to proceed. Thank you, Brett, for an enjoyable reintroduction to drawing. I look forward to taking another class. The CCAE could do better in communicating what to expect and in keeping the listing up to date. The description says it's 6 hours but it's listed as running from 10am-2:30pm. The supply list was incorrect so I purchased much more than I needed and didn't have items that I did need. So far I have take two courses, covering 4 total levels (Basic A-C and Intermediate A). They also offer less intensive classes as well as private and semi-private options as well, but considering I was looking for conversational practice I chose the group option. Bill (the director/owner of the program with his wife) and all of the teachers are friendly, attentive, and do their best to make you feel welcome and comfortable. This school is also located in the heart of Downtown Crossing, which made it super convenient and was among the most reasonably priced options out there (including the Centers for Adult Ed.). At first I was apprehensive to start with classes, as this is more of an "exchange", as the name implies, and has a fairly informal office space setting. However, my worries were immediately set aside when I met Bill and my teacher, Elaine. From day one I felt confident that I was in good hands. She was always engaged and focused with myself and other students, catering to the varying experience levels in my class so as not to leave anyone behind or bore anyone. While the curriculum is set by the course level, she kept the class fresh and was consistently challenging us with homework and in-class conversation sessions. I also took a few make-ups with another teacher, Ricardo, who had his own style of teaching but was equally engaged and concerned with his students' progress. Overall, I feel I gained a lot from my time so far (~14 weeks), going from someone with a very basic comprehension level and non-existent speaking skill, to a much more confident and capable reader, listener and speaker. While I still have a long ways to go, I am happy in particular with the confidence Bill and his team have built in my abilities!

She did not respond but simply forwarded my concern to a registrar who refused to do anything about it. The registrar said, wrongly, that the professor was acting in accord with HES policy. The grading system on the website does not in point of fact map onto the grading system of all the professors. So be forewarned that you may end up with a professor who will give you an F if you get less than an A. Don't waste your money at HES and don't expect the administration to act justly. There are no Financial Aid options coming from the university itself, and 2 out of 3 student loan companies that their office recommends actually don't really accept Extension School students. The third one needs a lot of extra paperwork that the school isn't willing to help with. In order to enroll you need to pay in full and you don't get a letter of enrollment until after the drop out period, when it's too late. You can't get a loan without paying and you can't get enrolled without a loan. So it's a chicken and egg situation that has no end. They say the university helps cover for you until the loan is approved, but in reality, you have to pay in full first and they will reimburse you after the loan is paid. Which defies the entire point of asking for financial assistance. There is a very short window in which to apply for the loan after registration before being dropped out for non-payment. Paperwork takes more than a month, which is not nearly enough to get everything done. I've spent hours and hours with both the lending officers and the financial aid officers, and in the end, nothing got solved. Nothing. I am unable to join the courses. I am unable to get a loan. I feel like my potential is wasting away... Harvard has failed me.
