This was the finished product! Delicious filet mignon cooked perfectly with veggies that we helped prepare and season.

We've taken 2 classes here so far and have had an amazing experience both times. The first time was the Italian cooking class, and the most recent time this weekend was the French Steakhouse class. Both were excellent and you learn a lot, but definitely have different vibes. The Italian class was super lively and there was a lot for everyone to help out with. I forgot the name of the Chef who was the lead that night but he was helpful and funny! Chef Ed and Chef Jojo were a great duo who did the most recent French Steakhouse class we did. Chef Ed was extremely knowledgeable and super friendly! This class was a smaller size too so it was personable, whereas the Italian class was pretty large, which there was nothing wrong with at all, just a different energy! During the French steakhouse class we didn't help AS much as I remember during the Italian class, but like I said we still learned a lot! One thing to note is if you take this class in the evening, you're cooking and prepping everything first obviously so you won't get to eat until later in the night. Thankfully, they do provide small apps to munch on when you get hungry, so that was great! Not to mention the wine and soft drinks you helped yourself to! You definitely work up an appetite by the end, and it's really rewarding when you finally sit down and eat what you've been watching and making all night! The food was delicious both times and it's a full dinner with an appetizer, main, and dessert! Overall, my fiancé and I love the SelfUp cooking classes and recommend them to everyone! We're already signed up for another one in the future!!

A group of friends and I (4 couples total) booked the Romantic Italian Date Night class and had the BEST time! It was such a great hands on (but not overwhelming) way to hang out with friends, meet new people and eat good food. The homemade pasta melted in my mouth, so much so that I requested the recipe after class so I can make it at home! Chef Gary and his team were very professional, attentive and fun! My friends and I can't wait to book another night - maybe Mexican! Thank you Selfup for a memorable night!

Two friends and I booked an Italian cooking class of pastas and tiramisu. Chef Ed Kelley and Valentino were amazing and instructions and hands-on participation. They had wine/sodas, cheese, and salami for all the guests which I thought was a great touch and snacks because we had the actual dinner after 3 hours. I had a lot of fun. Only feedback is to have digital recipes sent to participants (we took photos on our phones instead).

Chef John Peredina made this such an amazing experience. He ensured our entire group was included. He was hilarious and upbeat. Our food turned out amazing but cooking it was the best part. This was such an amazing experience. I would come back here a million times.

Oh how FUN! This is perfect for someone like me, who enjoys cooking but has no idea what they're doing :) I came here with colleagues for a corporate work event. We did the "Italian dinner" class where we made different types of pasta & dessert. The chef did a great job explaining the process of how everything is made. The marsala sauce he made for us was TO-DIE-FOR. I wanted to eat it as a soup, it was that good! The ravioli we made was my favorite; soft pillowy dough filled with the most delicious creamy ricotta filling. Also, did I mention the drinks were flowing during this whole class? I would definitely do this class again and/or others. I can't wait to try to make this at home. This was a great time if you're looking for something different to do and also a great event for large groups!

Came here from out of town for a corporate event and was blown away by the combination of efficiency, productivity and fun packed into a 3+ hour experience. Generous pours of house wine and large portions of high quality Italian food (think Buca di Beppo, Maggianos, or other respectable high volume chain, but with the fun of cooking it). Was most impressed with how the session really was able to get everyone involved and turned out finished product that we could take pride in eating, while being comparable in price to a regular dinner. Can't wait for our next visit !

I just did this class today with Valentina as our chef. It was awesome. He was fun, taught and coached alongside us, provided education and enthusiasm to our group. Walked away with a greater understanding and less intimidation to being able to take this back home and maybe do it. They provided beverages and snacks to enjoy as we did the work. I highly recommend.

Pork shumai - The image shows a round bamboo steamer basket filled with steamed dumplings, possibly pork shumai, resting on a white plate. The dumplings have a pleated wrapper and are arranged closely together. The basket is placed on a light-colored surface, and the background is slightly blurred. The dumplings appear freshly steamed, with some showing the filling through the wrapper.

My friend and I had a wonderful experience with our dumpling course instructed by the bubbly and personable Rudy! Wine and other soft drinks are offered as part of the course. From the beginning he was informative and friendly. Directions were clear and straightforward with the option of asking for more clarity. We know now why this class is gaining in popularity. Divided into groups we worked in shrimp, pork, beef, and chicken individually in the case of allergies in which nobody in our group had. Everything was kept sanitary in between letting the dough set and making the dumplings. Rudy freely let me to use items from his kitchen to make a specialized sauce that he loved! Highly recommend taking this particular course and am interested in trying some of the others offered here!

Wine, sodas, water, and apps like shrimp tempura and veggie egg rolls were served while we wait for everyone to arrive.

Great and fun activity for team building! We made 3 kinds of dumplings with explicit instructions by the chef. He also measured everything put so it's hard to mess up. All levels of cooking experience were present and Our team had a great time. Will come back again for other cooking sessions.

Came here for a company outing and had a wonderful time making pizzas! Chef Ed did an excellent job explaining how to make the dough and allowed us to make extra if it wasn't right the first time. Wonderful experience, I will definitely came again!

Chef Rudy Donalson was absolutely amazing. He was fun, light hearted, and made us feel as ease. His hands on teaching was great. Technics and explanations as to the - who - what and why of cooking was engaging. He made everyone feel like a pro and we enjoyed the experience with him tremendously. His sous chef was professional and patient. Even the owner popped in on us to make sure we got pics and were having a good time. Appetizers, wines and music was festive. A really good time.

Do you guys do gluten free cooking classes in a verified gluten free kitchen? If so... pricing and class schedule!?

Jay, We are not a verified gluten free kitchen as all of our events have gluten in them. We can offer food accommodations, but we do not host verified classes.

Are you able to reschedule your class if something last minute comes up?

We normally need a 48 hour notice but we do make exceptions in case of illness or a force major.

Are we allowed to bring wine to the class with Covid?

Hi Annie. Yes, you may bring wine with you.

Are you allowed to bring wine into class?

    Yes, you are!

The tour made its way down Charles Street and across the common to Park Street, stopping in several places for tastings and talks along the way. I don't want to give away all of their secrets but a few highlights were Beacon Hill Chocolates, a fabulously adorable little shop with amazing artisan chocolates, 75 Chestnut, where we were served a unique and superb toasted almond chocolate soup and the Melting Pot, where we got to try 4 different dessert fondues! A few people mentioned this tour was pricey, but I disagree. Good chocolate is pricey. If you went to Beacon Hill Chocolates on your own, a box of 4 chocolates would have cost you $10. We got to try 2 chocolates and a sample of gelato. A small fondue at the Melting Pot would run you $18. We got to sample 4 different types. And those are just two of the stops! I actually think it was a bargain! The founder actually joined us on the tour and it was apparent that this was his passion and a lot of time and effort went into finding the places to feature on these tours. I really had a great time and I left stuffed! But I can't wait to try another neighborhood for more amazing chocolate discoveries!

This review is for the Cupcake Crawl that Boston Chocolate Tours offers…read more My sister, Mom and I had been on the Back Bay chocolate tour through this company, and had a great time. Our guide was very personable, and each stop consisted of a worker at the shop discussing with us the history of the company, the chocolate they make, interesting facts, etc. Since then, we have gone back to several of the places we discovered on that tour, most notably Hotel Chocolat on Newbury Street. My sister and friends scheduled a private cupcake tour for my bachelorette, figuring it would be along the same caliber. It was not. 1. Not sure if this was the person coordinating the event or the guide, but we were told to park in the Boston Common garage and given the wrong address to the first location. This resulted in half our party having to take a cab to the correct address, and the rest of us doing a 15 min walk, past many other parking garages. We were then almost 20 minutes late meeting our guide. 2. Half our party showed up a few minutes after us since we had been split up, but the guide was hurried and wanted to get started right away without waiting for them, even though it was a PRIVATE tour. She didn't know it was a bachelorette, wasn't overly friendly, and gave us cupcakes from another bakery at Cakeology, but neglected to tell us that, so when I praised the girl working at Cakeology about the amazing chocolate cupcakes, she was completely confused. 3. Obviously cupcake/bakeries are a little more spread around than chocolate stops, but our tour consisted of us walking from Downtown Crossing, to Beacon Hill, to Newbury Street, to behind the Pru by the Christian Science building. We spent more time walking than we did in any of the actual bakeries, learning about the cupcakes, the establishments or even enjoying the actual tasting. At one point, at Georgetown Cupcakes (where we didn't even go inside or get greeted by anyone working there) our guide said let's walk and eat...down Newbury Street, on a busy Saturday afternoon. Not enjoyable. 4. One stop was totally random, at Johnny Cupcakes on Newbury. For those not in the area, it's a niche t-shirt shop, they don't sell cupcakes. They did have cupcakes from a bakery in Malden (why, I'm not sure...because nobody told us). We just kind of stood around in there while our guide chatted with her friends working there until she asked us if we were ready to leave. 5. This is the real annoying part - we walked all the way down Newbury, past the Pru and Hynnes, all the way around the corner and down towards the back of the Pru by the Christian Science Center for our last "stop" with the Kickass Cupcakes truck. They weren't there. I have no idea why our guide didn't think to call them to confirm their location before we started walking over there, but when we got there, she called, and they were at the corner of Clarendon and Newbury, where we had just been. She then offered to go back if we wanted to...we all declined. Tour had been billed as about 3 hours long. If it had started on time at 1:30, that would have put us around 4:30. Because of the address and parking issue, we really started at around 1:50ish, and we were done before 4pm. I can only attribute this to the fact that we didn't spend hardly any time in any of the bakeries before being shuttled off to our next destination, and then completely missing the last cupcake stop. I felt bad for my friends, because this was something special they planned for my bachelorette and paid extra for to have a private tour, and it was a total joke.
