I had an amazing time at the Pasta Making class last night that I was lucky enough to attend as a member of Yelp Boston's Elite! Chef Celio Pereira led us through an informative, fun, and tasty evening of creating Italian delights, including homemade truffle and ricotta stuffed tortelloni, fresh mozzarella topped salads in Parmesan bowls, and a decadent grand finale of tiramisu. Come hungry to Selfup cooking classes - you'll definitely get your fill of delicious food! We had a great time getting to know each other over feeding huge sheets of pasta through a machine, taking quirky photos of cheese pulling, and scooping sweet ricotta for make your own tiramisu, and I would highly recommend Selfup as an awesome team building venue for a group! This is a great class for people of all levels of interest in cooking, and there's no pressure if you want to participate or sit back and take it all in. The classes are reasonably priced for the ample amount of food that is provided, and we were there for about three hours. We took the Italian dinner cooking class and felt for the price the experience was subpar. The class could have been half the number of people, but we had 24 attendees so there wasn't enough hands on time or much of a learning experience. A lot of it was pre made. It was crowded. Additionally, as a vegetarian I wish there were another sauce option as I couldn't partake in the chicken Marsala. There were four of us and I felt for the $480 we spent, we could have had quite the magnificent Italian dining experience in Boston. That said, the chef was nice and the staff were friendly so no complaints there, just not an experience I felt was worth the price. read more

Took a cooking class and we learned how to make gumbo‼ it was my first time ever and it took about 3 hours. It was very authentic and we were nicely greeted at our Chef's home. It was super cozy and it was very nice for him to welcome us to his house. The gumbo was DELICIOUS! He taught us many tips and tricks about cooking and made the experience very enjoyable. Had an excellent work event at Selfup! It was the first time most of us colleagues were meeting each other and the staff at Selfup created an inviting tone from the start, with snacks and refreshments before we got settled. Chef Joe is an excellent instructor. He is quite knowledgeable and was informative without being stuffy. I think everyone learned something new. We made an Italian feast and everyone got hands-on experience throughout each part of the meal preparation. So much fun and so educational at the same time. I received the Italian cooking class as a Mother's Day gift from my son. My husband, son, and I went to the class in Boston together, and the three of us learned so much and had a great time. Chef John was awesome! He taught us so much and the night flew by. Chef John made sure that everyone in the class participated and that we all had fun. We learned how to make Chicken Marsala, ravioli, fettuccini, pasta sauce, and stretched and made mozzarella cheese. Who knew what went into that Process! Wine and soft drinks and snacks were available all night, then we ended the evening by eating the food we made together. This was a great experience and we thought it was well worth the money. My Fiancé and I attended the Mexican Fiesta class and we had the best time! We had done a cooking class in the past but this was a totally different experience. If you like meeting new people this is the class for you. There was a group of about 24 people and we all had a chance to take part in each step of preparing the meal. The chef had everyone rotating through the different stations so that you had a chance to learn how each dish was prepared. It was a very fun environment, highly recommend. read more

Got this cooking class as a gift from my boyfriend, it was easy to book online, and the classes aren't sold out for months in advance like other places. I have been to an Eataly cooking class as well and this one was so much more fun. Chef Maglio's Italian cooking class with tiramisu was delicious, educational, and a great way to meet other couples. They provide all the wine you could ever need, and we were able to get our hands messy while making the food. The outside of the building doesn't have a self up sign, but there is a doorbell you ring to get allowed in. Highly recommend! read more

This review was for the Pasta Making Event- Excellent date night with my husband and two other friends! We learned how to make SO much pasta, tortilloni, ravioli, fettuccine and angel hair pasta- and let me tell you, for the four of us we had soooo much food!! It was totally worth the price! We even made a yummy Kale and beet salad. And tbh, I was not expecting to like the beets as much as I did since the 7yr old in me was a little hesitant but let me tell you, it was a DELIGHT. OH! And we had tiramisu as well! They provided us with wine, beer, water, seltzer. Rudy was the chef who guided us through the entire experience. He was great! this is the 2nd time we have taken the Italian cooking class. this time we brought our nephew who really wanted to learn to cook. this time while the menu was the same the chef was different, we had Chef Joe the first time and tonight Chef John. both great and very knowledgable but also a little different approach. as they both had said; there are no rules to cooking. Chef John tonight had a much bigger class and maybe why we didn't get into some details we had before when the class was smaller. Chef John kept things lite and funny and also very informative; dude knows his stuff. learned things tonight we didn't learn last time so it was still a great experience and Dylan our nephew loved it. We did a 30 person team building for our office here and Joe, Jessica, Hector, and Dan were the best! They did a great job leading us in the cooking class and cocktail making - everyone had a great time. They even had drinks and snacks for us at the start while we settled in. We had a few dietary restrictions in the group and Joe accommodated them all, taking individual care of folks and even packing a to-go bag for a team member that had to leave early. Five stars for both Selfup and for our Master Chef and great person, Joe Roy Pendarvis, the gumbo class. Selfup was super easy to set up, there are many options, and the schedule is very flexible. We requested the gumbo class late, it was filled, we were offered other options or a different night. it was nice to have some calendar /option flexibility and to have communications be timely so we could plan. Gumbo is something my husband loves, i have always been indifferent. But clearly i have never had delicious gumbo until i was at Joe's class. I cannot say enough good things about the food, the set-up, the hospitality, the clear and useful instructions, and the time with Joe. Interesting, informative and delicious. I highly recommend this class--you will enjoy the time, the company and be exposed to a new approach to gumbo. Certainly, you will love the meal. read more
