If you're gonna get chinese/asian food in Bishop, this would be the place to go! I went during a holiday weekend (to me it chinese new year's, but I think it might've been presidents day) so think of the terribad crowds. Despite the wait b/c the kitchen got slammed (understandable), the wait staff was exceedingly courteous and kind, and always checked up on us to make sure we were comfortable and gave us updates on our order. I'm used to 626-level chinese food and this place holds up. Everything was delicious, and I would definitely come here again. read more

Very disappointed. We ordered fried wontons, general tso's chicken, and fried rice on our way home from mammoth. Nothing we ordered tasted remotely close to any Chinese food we've ever experienced before. The chicken tasted more like a McRib from McDonalds. The fried wontons lacked flavor, and the fried rice tasted more like white rice with food coloring. read more

I have eaten here a number of times previously and have refrained from writing a review because I kept just wanting to give them another chance. Tonight I ordered the vegetable Mu shu. It came pre-wrapped (which doesn't fit with my previous experience of the dish). The menu said "Chinese pancakes" but the food was served in plain TORTILLAS. Not even an effort at authenticity. Second was the service. Our server was started by telling him to just call him over when we were ready to order and proceeded to just go sit on his phone at a vacant table. When we did go and get him to order he seemed to purposely direct us to more expensive dishes, making it quite difficult to order. He then went back to his vacant table and phone. This persisted until the end of the meal when we actual were unable to even get his attention and had to ask one of his colleagues for the check. Doubt I'll give another chance :/ read more

as a thru hiker on the PCT, you learn to lower your standards and comfort of living quite a bit. I'm sleeping in a tent, eating ramen every day, and digging cat holes. my point is: I'm easy to please. I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant in my entire life. I hate writing reviews and I made a Yelp account just to write this. Not worth your money or time. the food lacks flavor or inspiration, I had a hair in my food (I was excited when I found the follicle as I hoped it would add some flavor which it unfortunately did not) don't go here. not worth the space in a hungry hiker's stomach. read more

We ordered take-out of several dishes and while they tasted good at the time, my wife and I felt sick about 4 hrs later. We did research and had the typical symptoms of severe MSG intolerance. Had we known they add MSG to their food, we would have requested that they not use it. However, the menu and website on Facebook does not state this and we had thought virtually all good Chinese restaurants fazed MSG out in the 1990s. It is a cheap way to flavor food and some people do not feel good after eating it. It's our understanding that a small amount of MSG naturally occurs in some foods and it takes a significant amount of MSG to cause a severe reaction like the one my wife and I experienced. So, we suspect they added a lot of MSG to the food. When I called the restaurant the next day to ask if they use MSG since we still did not feel well and was trying to figure out why, a very argumentative manager named Junie admitted they use MSG. She then blamed me for not requesting that it not be added even though I had no idea they use MSG at the time. She then rudely and unprofessionally hung up the phone on me. The restaurant should include language on their menu and website on Facebook that they use MSG and it can be removed upon request. We eat at Chinese restaurants quite often and have never had an allergic reaction to MSG because I am quite certain most do not use MSG unlike this restaurant. Or, they use a very small amount unlike this restaurant. We spent about $75 for 4 dishes and the restaurant should not try to save a few pennies by using MSG instead of slightly more expensive seasoning if it is well known that a relatively high percent of people have an adverse reaction to MSG. read more

Arrived at 8pm for dinner and they acted as though they were already closing. Prices are a bit pricey compared to other restaurants.Ordered Kung Pao Tofu among other things. My mistake was saying to make it "a bit" spicy. "A bit" part was ignored, one bite of it sent me to hell. Rest shrimp, chicken dishes are all ok n in fact a bit sweeter side. Had to constantly request them for water "a bit". Overall came out with throat n stomach burning from that one tofu bite. Rest all in trash of course. read more

I live in the area, but haven't eaten IN the restaurants in years. My favorite is the mixed fried rice...with a little spice. Its a little lean on meat at times, often with just one or 2 pieces of shrimp. But it is tasty. Food is always fresh & hot, and ready for me to pickup within 15 minuted or so. The prices seem a little high, but that is typical for our area (Bishop & Mammoth Lakes, CA). Grateful to have Chinese food in the area, as others have closed not long after opening. Imperial Gourmet has been around "since 1983". I uploaded all 6 pages of the take out menu (it's a little worn, but current). Someone noted that they had a hard time finding the restaurant. To clarify: it is located at 930 N. Main St. (also known as Hwy 395). They are right next to Taco Bell on the East side of the road. For those that prefer left & right...it's on the right side of the road if you are heading into Bishop from Big Pine and heading towards Mammoth...Hope that helps mom :o) read more

They were pretty busy when we walked in at 7pm on a Sunday night so we put our name in and headed to the bar to get a drink. The guy who took our name for a table was also behind the bar and running all over the restaurant... Not sure if he was a manager but he was tending to many things in the restaurant. Before being able to order a drink we were sat at a two person booth. The wait staff asked us almost instantly if we were ready to order which made us feel like they were rushing us and we wanted to enjoy a warm good dinner. We politely told them that we were in no rush and we plan to take our time, they were pretty accommodating. We started with hot and sour soup for 2 which was VERY good and enough for two little cups fills each. We also got the crispy wontons, about 8 smaller sized wontons comes per order, typical crispy wontons.For dinner we got, Kung Pow Chicken (very good and flavorful), Combo Fried Rice (pretty good, lots of meat less rice), Beef and Broccoli (we could have done without this dish... It sort of had a cinnamon taste to it). The food in general had a bit more salt than one would want in their food so be prepared to drink lots of water. The prices per dish were on the more expensive side ($9-$14 range) considering the portions weren't that big. All in all it was satisfying and hit the spot. read more

Came here on a Saturday for dinner after a day of snowboarding. It's about an hour away from Mammoth. We ordered Kao Pao chicken, ginger beef, eggplant and three season soup. The soup came when beef, beans, shrimp, carrots and most interesting, rice crispy. First I thought it was a weird combo but turned out to be a good combination. After a day in the cold, this soup is perfect. Ginger beef just likes its name, ginger with beef in stir fry style. Decent but not special. Kao Pao chicken is mild spicy, alittle dry. Eggplant is alittle bit greasy. Overall food portion is small for the price. Taste is average but not disappointing. They offer pretty wide variety of food on their menu. From paper wrapped chickens to Peking duck. Average $12-18 per dish. Prob because this is a tourist areas too. They offered buffet brunch on Sunday but we didn't get to try it. We were waiting for our room to get ready at the Motel 6 across the street and decided we wanted some Chinese food so we came over to this place. Prices were a little too much for the mediocre food. Staying at Creekside Inn in Bishop! and needed delivery. Only 3 restaurants provide this in Bishop due to Covid! Picked IMP. HSE. and it was perfect! Delivered in the time promised and was EXCELLENT! Friendly on phone AND willing to provide substitutions in choices. Got jump P.O. shrimp and curry chicken with different vegetables. Delivered warm too by masked delivery person to our hotel room!!!! Very good food, really nice and modern restaurant and friendly staff. We ordered vegetarian/vegan mu-shu, Szechwan string beans and chow mein, all were tasty and portions were large enough that the two of us had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. We live in Oakland and our Chinatown restaurants are authentic and excellent and so we were pleasantly surprised at how much we liked Imperial, especially as it's the only Chinese food for many miles around Bishop. read more

For a chinese restaurant to be here and be good in Bishop....speaks volumes. I had a lunch special Kung Pao Chicken. It was delicious to the last bit and I left wanting more. I will definitely be back next time I go that direction. Don't go anywhere else for chinese. Rest assured that my other experience was horrible at another establishment. If you have the NERVE to claim that you're a gourmet Chinese place try using a broth base for your e.f. soup, and leave out the corn. Who are the ppl saying this is the best? It's like eating Tyson??? It was just pretty obvious that zero people in the dining room during lunch hrs was what I chose to ignore after finishing my non spiced ultra bland food. Where are the onions? Plain Chicken and frozen broc? Glad I didn't pay 16.50 dinner prices!! Hate that I got snookered by their decor. They should really have better recipes for those prices. The Safeway deli in Gresham serves better Chinese sad to say. Who are the 40+ ppl in love? Seniors who can't taste their Chinese food? Seems like the owners own the place for the sake of ownership. My family have been going here for years and years and have always received excellent service and food but, the experience we got last night was so awful was absolutely horrible, the lady on the phone who took our order was extremely rude and did t want to answer any questions we had she kept saying hurry up I have customers waiting on the phone or here in person, the thing is we were only one the phone with her for less than two minutes, she was interrupting us and wouldn't answer our questions, all she would say is hurry up, we are also a paying customer as well as the others and deserve to be treated the same. Wow. The food was awesome and the hospitality was A+. I saw the sign to this place 83 miles away coming up the 395 to Bishop, laughing because most signs says 5 or 10 miles away. Its Christmas Eve and this place was one of the few staying open. So I ended up eating here anyway lol. My fam and I ordered Shrimp Friend Rice, BBQ Pork Chow Mein, Wonton Soup, Pollock Fish Fillet in Black Bean Sauce, and Crispy Duck. I highly highly recommend the Duck and Fish Fillet. Definitely a 5 star experience. The lady that served of was super sweet. There was a bit of a language barrier, but she really cared and listened attentively. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I came on a date with my partner. We ordered at the same time; he duck and I orange chicken. I didn't think I had to say that I wanted to food to arrive at the same time so we could eat together, so I didn't... My organs chicken and rice arrives. I wait a few minutes to eat (to not feel rude with my date) and date tells me to eat so food doesn't get cold. 26ish minutes pass by and my partners food arrives and I just finished. WTH are you serious? I complained that what happened wasn't cool and if a discount could be applied to our meal. I was rejected the discount but was given "chips on the house". Such rude behavior. I'm unsure if the reason for this behavior was because I was a man on a date with another man or if because the establishment doesn't hold their customer service exceptions high, but I will never ever be coming here again. My family and I were in Bishop, and we decided "Let's get some good local food!" Which ended up a terrible idea as all the American bbq's and delis were either packed or closed. After roaming around looking for restuarants, my parents gave up and decided to look for what we know best. Chinese food. I didn't expect much because it looked your ordinary Chinese restuarant. The food we ordered were: Tofu, Mongolian beef, bbq ribs, luncheon special and wontons. The tofu was decent, nothing special, the beef tasted fine, but the texture was rough and hard. The wontons were also mediocre, nothing unique, and the bbq ribs were not only dry, but tasted extremely oily. The luncheon box however, actually came with the meal. It was on the house and included egg rolls and egg drop soup. I'm giving this place a solid 4 because the food came extremely quick, and the service was polite and spoke Chinese. This place has really good Chinese food. When I'm on a road trip with my family, I often have to settle for mediocre Chinese food. But this place is on par with the restaurants in LA. I ordered the sizzling rice soup to start. I loved the seafood and the crispy rice together! I also got the kung pao beef and the baby bok choy with mushroom. My family enjoyed all the dishes. Hot and sour soup + mushu with beef taste utterly heavenly after a long day on the slopes! Believe me. This is a solid place to get your Chinese food when staying in Bishop or passing through on your way to/from Mammoth. It's nothing too fancy but feels upscale enough where it ranks above Panda Express and your average hole in the walls. A place of this caliber would probably be terrific in a place like West LA where most Chinese places are seriously lacking. As mentioned above, the hot and sour soup is great and the mixed vegetables dish is pretty tasty if you need your greens. I've had the chow mein in the past which was just ok as well but nothing to rave about. I would definitely return on my next venture through the region! read more

This place is ok only because it's the only "Chinese" food place up here. The prices are ABSURDLY expensive for the low quality food. Everything is far too salty, as well, to the point of certain dishes being inedible. Once again the food here is great. Come here every time i go to bishop and have never been disappointed. Do not go by the negative reviews of a bunch of idiots who clearly don't understand Chinese food and have an axe to grind with the prices ( it is a bit pricey , but its bishop people)or some other retarded reason to hurt the rating. This time i had the spicy salt and pepper scallops. They were perfectly lightly fried and flavored as an authentic "salt and pepper" dish should. Decent size portion too. Ive had the sweet and sour pork and kung poa chicken as well. The sweet and sour is as it should be ; mostly pork with light batter and the kung poa spicy. The service has always been great and this was no exception. Before you pass this place up based on the reviews of ignorant people or people who expect dishes like right outside of Beijing in bishop, give this a try. I come here once a month as I pass through Bishop. I very much like the duck, tangerine/orange beef, and the won-ton soup in particular. The food is consistently quite good, comes out hot, and even when they are crowded I usually get it fairly quickly. Service has always been friendly and they are good at keeping my iced tea full. Authentic Chinese food in the middle of nowhere? WOW. I was really impressed. Seriously, they used real asian eggplants, thai chilies, and even chinese pepper. Where the hell do you get that stuff in bishop? The owner must drive out to LA every week to stock up. Everything was really good, including their tea. After a weekend of eating Mammoth food (caloric American stuff) it was a great relief to have some rice and veggies. If you are passing through I would suggest this place to anyone.
