A bit surprised at the negative reviews. We stopped for lunch on our return drive and were both very positive. The service was friendly and efficient, very tolerant of my repeated questions about virtually every food item on my selected dish to ensure it was vegetarian. Rare for any restaurant, the soup did *not* contain chicken stock and I got to enjoy the egg drop soup with my meal. Likewise for the fried rice. The Mixed Vegetable dish I had was very, very good. Vegetables were freshly cooked, not overcooked and served from a serving tray, and the sauce was outstanding. It would have been even more enjoyable if it contained tofu. Lunch ambiance was as expected, people enjoying their meal before continuing their day. There were a good number of people who appeared to know the server, bantering with friendly conversation whether picking up their takeaways or eating in. I'd be curious about evenings as they have a reasonably well stocked bar with bar seating. Will be back on future trips read more

For being the only Chinese restaurant in Bishop, I'm giving 5 stars, and that's only because they have a brunch with Champagne all you can eat buffet on Sundays. Other wise I'd probably go for a 4 star. The prices are kind high here for a Chinese place, but I guess it has to do with the location and shipping costs all the way up here. In any other place like Vegas or Sacramento, this would be a $16 buffet, but I guess since you throw in champagne, maybe it's worth the $25 per person cost. The food quality was OK, but the selection was way smaller tahn a bigger city buffet, but I guess just count on being lucky there's any Chinese food at all here in Bishop. After reading reviews we were afraid food might not be spicy enough for us. However I had the Kung Pao beef with steamed rice and it was a tasty spicy large order. Had to get a container to take home. My wife had cashew chicken and asked for it spicy and it was very good. For the reviews on here saying bland they must be ordering bland entrees. Service was a younger man that needs a little more serving practice. Had to get another employee to have him come run the check. All in all not bad at all. read more

Pretty good chinese food for this area! Friendly service. Came here for dinner one night and it was a nice experience. We ordered the sweet sour soup, beef broccoli, and a chow mein to share. The food came out very quickly which was a huge plus since we were starving! PortIon size is very good and the food was delicious. Service was nice and friendly. Awful services. We ordered orange chicken and rice to share with our toddlers. We didn't realize it was spicy until we saw the red peppers in it. We recognized was our mistake for not reading the menu. Asked the young blonde waitress if it was too spicy since we were sharing with the kids, she rolled her eyes and said " it's supposed to be" and walked away. We immediately left. Since we go there we could see her attitude!! It was not busy at all. There were maybe another five families. The place was empty. I regret not reading the reviews and also there was a reason why the place was not busy at all on a Friday evening. There is no music nor is anything decorative in the place. The young employees appear to be afraid of the owner as she reminds them to check on a table. The hot and sour soup was the blandest I've ever tasted. The orange chicken was dropped on the table on top of two plates. Where is the seasoning? Where is the orange flavor? It's good but nothing stood out at all. 3/5 Mongolian Beef: one bite into that beef, and its texture will have you pause and say "da f*ck did I just eat?". 2/5 Three item noodles. Beef, chicken & shrimp. Beef was better than the Mongolian beef, so why didn't they just use the same? Chicken was firm. 2.5/5 And something else that apparently isn't a dish I even wanted to snap a pic or try to remember. The attentive staff came by to check up on us ... over and over. Probably like 5 or 6 times. But he was nice so all is well. I can see why Imperial Gourmet is so popular. It has a nice interior for where it is. Me and my family had dinner at the restaurant tonight and it was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The service was ok they only came to are table to see if everything was okay once . They weren't very busy so there was no excuse. Me and my family have worked in the restaurant and food business most of my life and this was sad to see. Next time I have a craving for Chinese food I will go to the store and buy frozen and on top of everything they brought my bill for $93 and when I went to pay they said they forgot to add a item and ended up paying $139. We had such a great experience. The staff was nice, the food was delicious, and so were the drinks. We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't too busy. The food tasted really fresh and flavorful. Will be back for sure next time we are in Bishop. read more

Very interesting service. So if you havent been here before, the way you order the food is by groups unless you eat a lot. I ordered assorted won ton soup and although its for two, I love soup so I can eat the whole thing. For a party of 5 we ordered orange chicken and something beef (i forgot) with a side of rice and fried rice. The food was alright, but its hard for us to enjoy any asian restaurant when were from Hawaii where we have some really good asian food. Our food was dry so the stars given here is for their service. As a Chinese-Taiwanese person living on the East Side, I appreciate having this option when I need more flavor in my life. I love the Sunday boozy brunch buffet. It's always a long wait so clearly other people love it too. You can't compare this to Chinese food in the San Gabriel Valley. This is a Chinese restaurant in a predominantly white rural area, so expect a nicer sit-down mom and pop version of Panda Express. The food is satisfying, flavorful, well priced, and portions are decent. The humans that work here are really kind and friendly. Some of the other reviews here are YT af, and I would most definitely discount their reviews. Most people who do the whole "one star" thing are super drama anyway. Supporting this small local business supports cultural diversity in our current food desert. Highly recommend :) read more

Of course I wasn't expecting anything crazy because it's a small town and I'm sure this is the closest thing to Asian cuisine around here. We made it to Bishop from Los Angeles around 1PM so we were right on time for the lunch special. The lunch special ran till 2:30PM according to their menu. The special includes fried rice (literally just fried), vegetable eggroll and eggdrop soup. My parents and I ordered 2 lunch specials and shared because we had a lot of outdoor activities planned and I didn't want to feel too heavy. We ordered, mongolian beef and the orange chicken dish. The orang chicken dish had a bit of spiciness which was perfect for me. The eggdrop soup was scrumptious, it was perfect for the chilly weather outside and nothing in the soup screamed overboard savory. Honestly I have no complaints the food was solid and the service was great! Once again I emphasize it's like... a high end table service Panda but it was decent. Also the lunch special came generously we shared two dishes and walked out full. I'd definitely stop by here again when I'm making a trip up here. read more

Hey, a review of a Chinese restaurant written by a Chinese guy! Serviceable Americanized Chinese food in a small town, nothing really out of the ordinary, nothing great, but nothing awful either. I ordered the Szechuan chicken, so unlike some of the other reviews complaining of blandness, this was not bland. When one orders Szechuan-style food in most Chinese restaurants in the United States, not just this one, you're basically getting spicy food, and not really any food that resembles that of the Szechuan region. I knew what I was getting into by coming here, but was really in the mood for Chinese food, and a dish with lots of vegetables as well, so I got that. I was a little surprised at the relatively high price for the dish. The dish was a little oilier than I prefer, but otherwise tasted fine. The decor in the restaurant is nice and tastefully done, and offers a nice atmosphere, and the air conditioning is especially welcome after hiking around South Lake or anywhere else. Sweet and sour pork is really bad, we have never seen that dish with a bright red color, the pork was very dry, meat tastes like it's old, and it was very bland. The chinese lady which is the owner of the restaurant was very rude. I told her try the pork and she even had a hard time chewing and it took a minute for her to swallow the said pork. She kept on insisting that is how they cook their food. I was trying to ask if they can remove the sweet and sour pork in our bill since it doesn't really taste good and they did not want to remove it. The chinese owner said that she would CALL THE POLICE if we did not pay for the pork. What kind of service is that?! All for a $17 pork dish?! Meh. I had the Mu Shu pork, something I've been ordering and eating for 40 years. In all that time, I've never had it served pre-wrapped (see photo). By the time I started eating the second serving, the pancake was mush and falling apart. Flavor was just OK. I was with 5 other people who found their meals equally mediocre. The service was a bit rude. When we asked for extra white rice we were told that some meals did not come with rice (like the mu shu), so they would have to charge us extra. Jeezus, just make your customers happy and give them another $0.25 worth of rice. They lost money by doing that, because I took it off the tip. I get that it's probably house policy, but treat your customers with courtesy please. read more

Ok so this is the only Chinese food in town. It's located right next to Taco Bell. The decor is Asian and has a big full bar. The front doors are cool but heavy too heavy for an elderly lady with a walker to open. They have a small lunch menu, a small early bird menu and I am guessing a full menu for dinner. I asked what was in their Kung pow and the server said chicken, water chestnuts and peanuts. Which is good for someone who isn't big on veggies but I like some veggies in there. So I ordered the orange chicken and it was good. It comes with a little bit of broccoli. Lunch specials come with fried rice, an egg roll and egg drop soup. When we were seated Alicia brought us out iced water, wonton strips with sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard. They used to offer hot tea maybe they only do that in the evening or winter. My mother ordered the walnut shrimp. The walnut shrimp is fried shrimp lightly battered on a salad with walnuts and drizzled with a sweet creamy sauce. Looked good and tasted good. I stole a shrimp when she wasn't looking. It is not your average honey walnut shrimp, so don't be surprised if it doesn't have a honey taste. The orange chicken is also not breaded like your average deep fried orange chicken. It is chopped up chicken with a thick orange sauce on top of it. If you are craving Chinese this is your only choice and it's pretty good. Although it is not the only Asian food in the area. read more

He uses the most authentic ingredients, including a special type of cherry. It really is the best old fashioned I've ever had. The workers here are super nice and friendly. My husband and I truly enjoyed the Mu-shu pork. It was delicious and the crepes were perfect and thin, the way I love them. We also ordered the Orange Chicken. It's not your grandmas orange chicken, a little more spicy than I'm used to, but it was VERY GOOD. Not overly breaded and the chicken was so tender and delicious. First time we've tried this restaurant, but not the last! Great Chinese food, and they delivered to our hotel in a timely manner. Very nice gentleman. We come to Bishop to enjoy the beautiful lakes and gorgeous beautiful Sierras. When I read one of the reviews where someone said there's nothing to do in Bishop and it's in the middle of nowhere, I laughed so hard and thought...yeah buddy, just keep on going. Starving, driving through, didn't want to wait for the next town. Was expecting typical greasy Chinese-American takeout, was a bit shocked by the prices as they are significantly higher than most take-out places. Ordered the Orange Chicken and understood why. Chicken is evenly breaded and fried, smaller but sufficient portion, made very well. The Mushu Pork comes already inside the pancakes, giving me less work to do. The stir-fried pork and veggies inside are done very well. Surprisingly good food. Made well, great service. Not a reason to stop in Bishop, but not a bad place to stop when in Bishop. read more
