My buddy ordered a turkey panini which he said was delish. Menu was full of your standard diner fare. Service was quick and friendly. While our Reuben sandwiches arrived hot, juicy and tasty at this diner on a Saturday afternoon, the wait staff, on the other hand, was lukewarm. After we sat down, it was maybe 10-15 minutes before our waiter appeared. After he took our order, he never came back asking how the food was or if we needed anything else. No one did. A waiter did appear adding water to my tea. But it wasn't hot. We had to ask someone else who asked our waiter to replace my tea with a brand new tea bag and cup. When we were done eating, we waited maybe another 5-10 minutes before our check was presented. I went to the bathroom. Upon returning, my friend girl had the check. Despite the wait staff, the diner had a quiet, pleasant ambiance. It was crowded, but not loud. It was clean. The dessert display was beautiful and enticing. Parking is in the rear. The diner sits on the busy Merrick road in Freeport. It maybe a challenge getting out of the parking lot turning onto the street, depending on the time of day. I like diners. Food is always fresh, nice portions, a bit expensive but so is food everywhere. I loved their veggie burger in the past. Hot open turkey sandwich was nothing to brag about. It was fresh, it was hot but bland. Hospital food. The sides were good (mashed potatoes, mixed grilled veggies) but extremely small portions and disproportionate to the turkey so your left over meal is turkey. read more

After a friend's recommendation, I stopped in for dinner last night. I found the Imperial Diner to be really nice inside; upscale. The staff was pleasant and the service was excellent. I ordered the Roast Beef Melt Deluxe. Although it wasn't bad, I probably wouldn't order it next time. The roll (not a garlic hero as listed, but a plain generic hero roll) wasn't toasted and the sandwich lacked flavor. The au jus gravy made it juicier, but not more in the way of taste. The fries, however, were spot on. Good job! I would certainly visit the Imperial Diner again, but order a different dish. read more

It was shortly before they closed - was on my way to meet a friend, and I needed coffee badly! The gentleman who greets guests when they walk in was very polite. I asked where to get coffee; he pointed the way. The waitress took good care of me, and was prompt and polite. The coffee was perfect. You can't beat Greek diner coffee! I have to tell you that I've been eating at this diner since I was 8 years old. I've eaten here with my parents, ( May they rest in peace), my friends, and with all of my children since they were all babies. I have eaten the best cheeseburgers with their coleslaw, which is the greatest on earth!! I've had eggs, omelets, home fries(so good), the best breakfast sausages, eggplant and chicken parm, the best creamed spinach that I craved through ALL of my pregnancies and I always will. The best diner I've ever been to, it will fool you into thinking its a regular restaurant. Everything done right. typical stuff like photos here, tater tots and burgers - but I would recommend even coming here to start with desert and coffee. I really can't stand diners. They're overpriced, they have terrible food, and poor service. So when a diner can actually stand out, it's well worth pointing it out. Imperial diner is very much like literally every other diner you've ever been too. You'll see the familiar booths, the ostentatious metal decor, and all the rest. What makes Imperial diner different though is the food is good, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. I'll say it again, I really really hate diners, but love coming here with my buddy Jean to eat and catch up. Imperial has also placed some tables outdoors for our covid era and it's quite nice with the waterfall in the background. If you're looking for a diner to chill at, I'd recommend Imperial. read more

We stopped here for coffee and dessert on a Friday evening. I picked this spot since they have outdoor dining but we didn't know what to expect as some diners have a tent. We arrived but didn't see anything outside so we called and they said yes they did have outdoor dining, they led us to it and it was a very nice outdoor space, fairly large and with glass walls about halfway up. You just can't go wrong here. The food is consistently good across the menu: breakfast lunch and dinner. Keeping in mind this is a diner, not a white tablecloth restaurant, so you're not going to often get something exceptional, just very good food at a good price. I have been going here for 25 years and my only complaints over all that time is that they don't make real maple syrup available with the excellent pancakes and they don't serve biscuits. But they do serve grits so I remain hopeful. :) read more
