3/14/26. Nothing short of amazing! Sat down to fresh baked garlic bread, and started off with delicious veal/beef meatballs. My chicken florentine (with pasta soprano sauce) was a generous serving and really hit the spot. Their red sauce was wonderful as well. The cannoli shells are made in house and is a must! First dinner on the ground in NY. Long day & arrived about an hour before closing on a weeknight at Novi. Promptly seated in a nice, welcoming dining area. Drink orders taken and bread brought. OMG the bread! I had to pace myself. We each ordered one of the two daily soup specials - mine being the one with the sausage. Again, spectacular, and large portions for a cup. Cousin ordered the branzino and shrimp meal special. I enjoyed a taste of the branzino - very nice white fish, and sauce was refreshing. Not a shrimp eater so I passed on the rest. I ordered the linguine with clams in white wine garlic sauce. So excited - haven't had good linguine & clams in years! Note to self (and anyone else not from the East coast): It is the whole clam, stomach, foot and all. I didn't know clams had feet. As the server told me, these are not chopped clams like I am used to. Anyway, the texture of it kind of threw me and I did my best but couldn't get past it. Ate a lot of the pasta and the 3 clam pieces that were served in the actual shell. The sauce also seemed to be lacking in seasoning. I took rest for cousin's husband to finish. Ended with decaf cappuccino and tea. Pricing seemed to be on par for the area and service was prompt. Can't fault the restaurant for my 20 years of eating chopped clams but will probably try another Italian restaurant the next time I am in the area. read more

This place is a solid choice for most occasions. From quick snack, to full -fledged deliscious meal, to a special night out (birthday, anniversary). And you can do it all for a reasonable cost. It is an old-school eatery with a nice little bar that is active enough to just come and enjoy, or be a waiting area until your table is ready. The food competes with the best alternatives, and TBH, we have had better Italian means here than we have at some of the more costly Italian places in the area. (I'm looking at you La Parma III, who charged us $200 for two large plates of mediocrity). Not at NOVI, the food is always very good, and often great. And at reasonable prices. Even more importantly, let's face it, with a bad economy and sky-high costs, we don't need to go out. So if we do, we want it to be pleasant. Most of the staff at NOVI is wonderful and charming, and a pleasure to be around. That stuff, to me, makes a difference. VERY RECOMMENDED! read more

Tried this restaurant because there has been some chatter among friends that the food and service were good so, thought we'd give it a try. Firstly, there is street parking on Merrick Rd. as well as a large parking lot behind the place. We were greeted with big smiles and welcomes. We mentioned that we had not been there before. Jill was our server and she could not have been more pleasant, full of information and enthusiastic. She gave us suggestions for appetizers. We took her advice and ordered whole baked clams which were really good but for my taste, a little more flavor would be better. Then we had the eggplant meatballs. Now, these were cheesy and crispy and just sensational. On to entrees: we had the lasagna, sunday sauce, and parmesan combination plate with salads and fresh broccoli in garlic. They were all real comfort food. The red sauce on each dish was done well. We enjoyed each meal and took home lots for tomorrow. We then had capuccino and cannoli and apple crisp. The cannoli was crispy and done well, not too sweet. The apple crisp was kind of weird. It was kind of a crustless, crumb-less mixture of cooked apples. Would not order that one again. All in all, this was a good stop. Jill's warmth and direction made the evening even better. We will be returning again soon! read more

Went here for the first time to eat last night. It was delicious! A hidden gem! Service was great and so was food. For starters we ordered the special margherita flatbread. It was SO good. Worked here in high school, stopped by for a bit love to see how they changed things around. Service is always great I love how welcoming that atmosphere always is. Food was always something I die for. Took my girlfriend there for the first time and she loved it! She said if you could have ordered 3 more skirt steaks to take home she would've! Five of us went for dinner. We sat in the bar area. Lisa was our server and she was great. When we were seated, we were served with a delicious variety of bread. It was good. We also ordered a bar pie with pepperoni and everyone enjoyed it. I had the sole and shrimp francaise which was a special. The portion was huge! The dish was good; I enjoyed the shrimp more than the sole, and it was a little in the salty side. The string beans were good. Also ordered was chicken francaise. That was good but it came out lukewarm. The steak ordered was totally over cooked and a major disappointment. The spaghetti with clams was good but if your looking for whole clams, it's not I. Horrible food. Asked for an eggplant parm hero with toasted bread, it was burnt. Crispy pizza was dry, chewy, and soggy. Fettuccine Alfredo was bland with very little sauce, and what sauce was there, had separated. This place has gone severely downhill. We have supported for years, but it's time to move on. They offered me a credit, but why would I come back to a restaurant that has let us down repeatedly? If not for the desire to support a local, Baldwin Business, would not have ordered. My friend and I were in Baldwin and stumbled upon Novi while searching Google for a nearby restaurant for lunch. What an absolute, unexpected treat! We entered from the rear parking lot which was not the most attractive environment, although the restaurant did attempt to prettify its actual entrance. Don't let this dissuade you, though, because once you step inside the atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable, refreshingly chill on a hot day but without air blowing down on your head. Our server was Melissa, who greeted us with a big smile, glasses of water, and an unexpected basket of warmed rolls and garlic knots. Most restaurants don't even do that any more! Melissa made some suggestions and gave us ample time to consider our options. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, chicken parmesan sliders, and an apple crisp salad (I forgot the actual name of the salad but it has mesclun greens, romaine, apples and cranberries). Everything was mouth-wateringly delicious and abundant, so much so that I brought a slider and some salad home which Melissa efficiently packaged for me! Sometimes unexpected finds are the best. A throwback to old style Italian restaurants, not fancy, just dowhome good. We ate at the bar, Ron our bartender was great and attentive. Baked whole clams were good, not great, lacked seasoning. When I was a boy, the Old Venice was a rendezvous point after one of my dad's auctions at The Nassau Gallery,(from 1962 - 1982) almost directly across the street (now a laundromat) . It's been years since we have revisited and I must admit..it has become one of our favorite Italian eateries! The atmosphere is always welcoming and the entrees are really delicioso. Their red sauce is rich and hearty and the really do listen to customers' requests. It has become a weekly event for my wife and I to frequent The New Old Venice Inn. I must admit that this place is not at all what I had expected... I thought it was going to be rather basic but it was actually so delicious and if you're in the area, you should dine ! I came here with a friend after a homegoods run and we were so impressed! We ordered the mozzarella and tomatoes which were amazing .. The mozz was fresh and it lay on top of a salad with balsamic.. They also added red peppers which really were juicy! Nice touch. I had the Italian wedding soup and salad and my friend had the carbonara... The soup was SO good.. I'm a soup person and I can totally live off of it! This soup was to die for! It had extremely large chunks of Italian sausage in it and such a nice taste, I really enjoyed it .. The fettuccine carbonara was so rich (to be expected) and light at the same time.. I would advise sharing since it is such a large dish! The food really was delicious in here. This place is like half of a bar and the other side for dining which I can dig.. It just needs a little face lift I think since its kind of old looking so don't let this skew your experience. If I could give zero stars I would! Will not be returning. Ordered takeout, not only did I not get everything I ordered, but my food looked like it was taken off of a half eaten plate. Stay away from the stuffed mushrooms.....$15 for four small mushroom caps that were stuffed with what smelt like rotten seafood then drowned in melted cheese to disguise it, I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. Chicken Bruschetta....the cutlet was cut in half and was only one half....clearly cut after being cooked looking like it was someone's leftovers. So disgusted. read more

Delicious. Had a great meal here. I had large ravioli with pork and beef in a pink sauce. It was amazing. I could eat it every day it was so good! Great portion size! I thought maybe since the ravioli was large it would be a small portion but this was tons of food. My mom had chicken and eggplant francais and it was good. Well the eggplant was delicious. The chicken was just ok. Mom shared the tartufo dessert with a friend. It was a nice portion easy to share. She and her friend enjoyed it. Not gonna lie, the apple crisp was not great. It was a good portion and had two big scoops of vanilla ice cream. Thank goodness for the ice cream cause the crisp had a weird taste. Had pretty good service. NOVI has been a neighborhood spot for a long time and with good reason. I've only eaten in person there twice a couple years ago with great experiences but order take out from there often. Inside there is a bar area with a few tables and a separate dining room area so lots of seating depending on the vibe you're looking for. The little focaccia garlic bread at the beginning is so good - we always ask for extra. I can't recommend the penne a la vodka enough - it is never dry, the sauce is flavorful, actually holds up as a leftover the next day which is rare. The portion is generous as well. The chicken Marsala and calamari are also really good. The skirt steak is a must order too. The prices are reasonable especially given the portions. Would definitely recommend to a friend. read more

The hostess at this establishment needs a serious course in customer service. Went here with my boyfriend on a Friday night. The bar area was crowded, but the sit down restaurant area wasn't. But because there were only two of us, we had to wait for a table. We waited around for a while. In the meantime another couple walks in and started speaking to the hostess. I guess they knew her and immediately they were seated. Yet we were left still standing around waiting, with nothing said about how much longer we were going to be waiting. I had to ask the hostess why was it we were waiting first, yet we still were not seated. She gave me some lame excuse about a table not being ready for us and we would be seated soon. Don't want to think our skin color had anything to do with it, but the couple who were seated right away were white. I will never go to this restaurant again because of the way the hostess handled the whole entire situation. read more

4.5 stars!! Came here for Easter dinner with the family - all 6 of us RAVED about the food. Portions are very generous and very flavorful. Started off with an array of appetizers, from Italian Nachos to Baked Clams, all of which were great. I love that you can get the option of whole or chopped clams for baked clams... a true sign of freshness, and homemade-ness, if you were to ask me!! Of course the teenager at the table, had to have mozzarella sticks, and even those were great!! Almost stuffed, we took the slow approach to ordering entrees, and I'm SOOO happy I had the homemade tortellini with veal and beef, since that was like the most perfect dish of pasta anyone could ask for. If it's on the specials menu when you happen to go - Order it... DO it!!! Almost can not wait to have my leftovers!!! Had no issues with making a minor substitution on a dish. Novi is without a doubt the best food we have to offer in Baldwin. The entire staff is super friendly and the prices are fair, but the best thing about this place is the food!
