Finally stopped in here after passing it literally for YEARS. The outside looks real nice and updated. It so happens that they had a massive fire two years ago, and despite uncertainties of building themselves back up again, they finally did 11 months later. I was looking forward to the food. The lunch menu had varied options of salad, wraps, and heroes for GREAT prices. The regular menu was offered as well at full price. Our waitress, Melissa, was top-notch and stellar. Enthusiastic, attentive, funny, went WELL out of her way and was swift with our food, and recommended an alternative way to prepare my entree that wasn't offered on the menu (sauteed shrimp instead of fried for my parmesan hero). The food portions were GENEROUS, but was average tasting. My mother felt the same. It was "ok". It wasn't "OH MY GOD!!", as I was hoping. The ambiance is nice, the service is fantastic, but the food is just alright and isn't anything too special. There's parking off the street, but they also have a lot in the back. On Tuesdays, if you bring your own wine glass, of ANY size, they'll fill it for $5. On Wednesdays, you can get 2 for $20 (of an appetizer, entree, or dessert). They have a jukebox that I hear can get things poppin' after hours, and they burn the midnight oil away... Perhaps I built myself up too much for this one, but regardless, I'm glad I finally came in. Our recent dinner at Novi far exceeded our expectations - the food was delicious, the service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was great! We stopped by for pasta night on Monday where a traditional pasta dish + a side salad is $10.95, and we were blown away. The bolognese sauce is perhaps the best I've ever had, and the vodka, pomodoro, and carbonara sauces are also delicious. For dessert, order the chocolate lovin' spoon cake to put you over the top. Almost five star - Excellent first time visit to this small Baldwin Italian. Nice casual place with a full page of daily specials. We loved the crabmeat stuffed shrimps. Eggplant topped Lasagna was almost as good. Low prices for what you get. Cheesecake dessert was factory fresh. Next visit i'd skip dessert. I dropped a star for this reason. I was treated to dinner hear on my birthday not too long ago. The food was very good and in ample portions. I left stuffed because I could not lay off the appetizers and soon followed my fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli rabe. All of it delicious and made great lunch after reheating the next day. Valentine's dinner was amazing! Second year now and it has been established our new tradition. We made an early reservation and it did not dissappoint. We ordered stuffed pork chops and ravioli. We enjoyed our mozzarella & tomato tower as well as the stuffed mushroom appetizers. Everything was even better than the year before. We are ecstatic that the quality of food and service exceeded our expectation. The complimentary chocolate covered strawberries concluding our meal was a welcomed touch. If you feel like having some good old Italian food, go to Novi. My favorite dish is called the parmesan sampler and it has Chicken, Veal and shrimp, served with pasta or a salad. It's perfect for those times when you just aren't sure which one you want! The service is always good and I rarely have to wait for a table unless it's during peak times on the weekends and even then the wait isn't too long. Decided to try Novi after seeing the renovation from the outside. We arrived and found it to be a nice bar and clean looking. Asked for a table for two and was told by the haggered hostess it would be two minutes. After looking around I saw no one else waiting for tables, but did notice the dining area was busy. Then two groups of four came in and were immediately given a table. Then she informed me afte five minutes it would be 25 minutes. I asked what happened to two minutes and she shrugged her shoulders. I said that we would wait. Then I thought about how she just pushed us aside for the other groups and decided not to wait. We told her no thanks and left. She attempted to give the impression that we were in the Four Seasons. My dear, you are the New Old Venice Inn. Unfortunately, we still can smell the smoke from the fire two years later, unless that is the kitchen burning the food. Your loss, not mine. Drove into RVC and went to Dodici instead. On Saturday September 21st we were awaiting our table as we had arrived earlier than expected. What we witnessed while waiting was truly unbelievable. A woman with young children was complaining about having to wait since she had made reservations. She was loud and obnoxious & made sure that everyone heard her complaining. She demanded to see the owner. The hostess who was more than patient with this woman finally said she was the owner. The behavior the customer displayed was rude enough but when she called the owner out using the term "bitch" was totally uncalled for. I would have thought that the customers husband would have addressed the situation with his wife. Instead this man stood by in front of his children & all of us customers waiting and permitted his wife to make him look pitiful. I can not believe that if this woman & her family were that unhappy they didn't just leave & go someplace else. Is it any wonder the children of today are the way they are having parents such as this woman display such behavior & anger? As for my family we were delighted to see the owner handle this situation so well since it could have easily escalated to something much worse. Kudos to the owner who we by the way always thought was the hostess only. We have frequented this restaurant many times & have never seen such ugly behavior by a customer who considers herself an adult. I hope when my family are there again we never see this woman in the restaurant. In our opinion this woman surely owed an apology to the hostess-owner. Life is so very short and perhaps this woman should count her blessings that she was able to go out to a restaurant . Many are not that lucky. On another note must say that our dinners were delicious as usual. The portions are always great & as for us must say that the veal is better than any served in Little Italy. A great restaurant. This was my first time at NOVI and I will return. The service was friendly and efficient. The calamari appetizer was crispy and tender. I would pass on the eggplant quesadilla the next time. I had the almond crusted salmon and it was delicious. Everyone at the table was more than satisfied with their meals. It was a relaxing evening, with no one hovering or rushing us. One of the Best Italian Restaurants Around, the menu is GREAT endless choices and the kitchen executes all the dishes perfectly and fast every time. Have eaten at Novi countless times and everything has always been spot on and perfect. The servers are some of the best and are extremely attentive to their tables, they know the menu very well and the kitchen and servers are always acceptable to custom creations. The Bar area is well lit and always has on the games, great to stop in and grab a quick app and keep up on the scores.
