Let me preface by saying I was really looking forward to checking out this new restaurant because I loved Seven Reasons and this one is by the same team. However, after the experience I just had with them where they gave my friend a soup with pine nut after she told them she has a nut allergy and she ended up in the ER, it left a very bad taste in my mouth. We came here to celebrate my girl friend's birthday. After telling the waiter our orders, one of my girlfriends told him that she's allergic to nuts and to make sure that there's no nuts in any of her dishes. As a starter, they brought out four glasses of mushroom soup with truffle oil for us. As soon as my friend had the soup, she could feel that her lips were getting swollen and she was having some kind of allergic reaction. We then asked the waiter if there was any nut in the soup. He said no at first, but we asked him to go into the kitchen to double check. He then came out and let us know that there was pine nut in the oil. My friend ended up leaving the dinner immediately to check herself into the ER at GW hospital nearby. It was better being safe than sorry. The waiter was apologetic about what happened, but the manager didn't come by to address us at all. We ended up taking her order to go for her but none of her drink or food was taken off the bill. What even worse is that as the waiter brought out the bill, he told us that even though there is a 22% service fee added to the total, none of that goes to the servers and that we should add extra tips to the total. I would never expect this level of service and carelessness at a fancy and expensive restaurant such as this one and for this reason, I definitely won't be coming back or recommend this to anyone. read more

Excellent food and service, with well appointed, modern decor. Comfortable seats to enjoy creative cocktails and a good selection of wines.

I wanted to love Imperfecto, especially as Seven Reasons is one of my favorite DC restaurants and I've always had such great experiences there. But this meal was pretty disappointing. My $35 pork was completely dry and not very tasty or flavorful. Everyone at the table agreed it was chewy and bland. Meanwhile, my friends got the $32 mole chicken. While they loved it, it was the tiniest portion for chicken - not even close to an entree size - and so much smaller than the entree-size pork dish - at that price and they left hungry. We liked the Moussaka cigar but it was also tiny for the price of $22. Maybe the menu concept of very small portions per each dish could have been explained to us to set expectations. We all left hungry and overcharged. We were also disappointed by the service. The waiter pushed alcoholic drinks on us way too hard and seemed to downgrade us in his treatment when we opted for an alcohol free night. You shouldn't feel like you have to get drinks when you go out. We also had to wait forever to get a food menu. And when we finally ordered, our apps came out with our mains as if we were suddenly being rushed out the door. I wanted to love this place and but we all left disappointed in every way. I tried to give this constructive feedback a few times to the restaurant directly and while they listened at first to my feedback, they said they would call me back with a response, but never did - even though I followed up multiple times. So the trend of poor customer service continued after my meal. read more

Imperfecto is perfection! We enjoyed a fabulous dining experience. The staff was great, very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable of the dishes being served. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and is in a great location in the city. The food was absolutely amazing ... original, delicious and flavorful from beginning to end. read more

We were here for a tasting menu meal, and it was absolutely fantastic! I loved the food, the service, the ambiance! I experienced flavors + ingredients that I have never tried before, and the whole experience was perfect! I loved watching Chef prepare the canapes pre-meal. The wine pairings were perfect, too! Thank you to all the staff for providing a memorable evening! read more

It has been a while since I've been pleasantly surprised with dinner reservations to a swanky Michelin star restaurant. I absolutely love the opportunity to "dress up" every now and again to eat a great meal... but I digress. I've never heard of this place so dinner here was a nice surprise. This restaurant is an easy five stars. To start, the atmosphere is great- beautiful design, perfect lighting, amazing location. Secondly, the service is awesome and the waiters aren't too pushy during the meal, allowing for intimate conversations to take place without constant interruption. Mostly importantly, the food was delicious and beautifully plated. The mocktails are all stellar and picture perfect as well. The Japanese Wagyu, my favorite, was cooked to perfection. The Spanish cochinillo was tasty. The moussaka cigars (phyllo dough and ground lamb) were so delicious, we ate them before I had the opportunity to take a picture. There is Chef's table, a tasting menu or Al a carte menus. Also, their menu changes daily so it creates an opportunity for satisfied customers to return and try a new cuisine. We chose Al a carte. Everything we ordered was delicious down to the brûlée which was different but tasty. This restaurant is in the top tier of DC and a must try. read more

we had a great eve in the private room - the food, service and overall experience was top notch.

I went to dinner at Imperfecto with my girlfriend. We ordered cocktails I cannot recall the name but it was gin based, it was a great cocktail but far too much ice was used in a glass that was soooo beautiful but too large. We ordered the falafel to get started at that was a huge miss, it was dry and and they tahini lacked flavor. I ordered the lamb and it was actually really flavorful but the portion was too small. My friend had the beef tenderloin and carbonara, beef wasn't cooked evenly and lacked flavor. We ordered the ricotta brûlée for dessert and that was just ok for me, I didn't like the lemon sorbet. Overall the service was great and the ambiance was nice (a little tight in our area) but I'm not sure unwound return based on the price. read more

I am giving this restaurant and one less star than its sister restaurant Seven reasons. That is mostly for the ambience because this place definitely feels more corporate-y and definitely has that DC after work super crowded business vibe. It would be a fun place to come after work but it isn't as cozy as Seven reasons and it's so noisy. The service started out quick maybe because we were there before the crowd but ended up being really slow towards the end. However our server was really nice so it was OK. The food was delicious but again Seven reasons food is still a little bit better! I really enjoyed the burrata appetizer and I thought that the cheese was so fresh. The falafel was flaky and light but a little bit too dry in my opinion. I also tried the tuna tartare which was absolutely delicious and the spinach risotto which was definitely my favorite dish! It was a perfect serving size to share and it was nice and rich and I could've definitely eaten way more of it. The lamb terrine was super tender and melted in your mouth. I would recommend this dish to anyone. The only dish I did not care for it was the dorade fish. It was cooked in this weird olive sauce and I don't like olives and the whole flavor was just drenched in olive. However the fish itself was very flaky and delicious. My favorite drink was the club cocktail. It was pretty and tasty! read more

We went here to celebrate a birthday and it did not disappoint. We ordered a la carte and our favorite dish of the night was the moussaka cigar. The lamb inside was tender and delicious. The two pasta dishes (truffle tagliolini and spring onion risotto) were less special/unique in comparison but still tasty. read more

Dinner was excellent. Highly recommend. Very pricey at $500 we did not realize a two person meal would be so expensive. That being said the food was exquisite. Loved everything we tried and will be eating ramin the next month to make up for it but it was so worth it! Delicious! read more

Imperfecto perfection. I went with a group of 7 and we tried just about everything on the menu. The food was top notch and the service was great. A few highlights were the lamb with the Robuchon potatoes, the moussaka cigar, the giant prawns (with an absolutely incredible sauce), the risotto, and the eclair for dessert. However, everything we had was really delicious. Beyond that, the decor is phenomenal and slightly open kitchen make the ambience amazing. All of the staff were thoughtful and made the experience that much better. read more

Been to many Michelin star restaurants in my life and let me say I am very disappointed. I understand the portions are usually small however, the quality of the food is unsatisfactory. We felt very rushed. They kept firing and bringing stuff out of us, but yet taking their time with other tables. The corn pasta had little to no flavor, and the Foie Gras was very expensive for a very small portion when I've had cheaper Foie Gras for a larger portion elsewhere. I don't think it's the best bang for your buck, or the best quality. Definitely better Michelins. Staff is nice but it's not enough to come back. The Agua Chile had no flavor at all. Presentation was beautiful. read more

I came with a couple of friends and reserved the Chefs tasting. Overall, the service is great and the people are nice. The drinks are okay and the wine selection is good. A little bit pricey but in general, decent. The tasting menu and 3 drinks ran us each 200. The tasting menu left a lot to be desired as I had my own expectations of an elevated fine dining taste. Unfortunately the food just doesn't reach bib gourmand or 1 Star in my book, yet. The pastry chef's creation was what I considered exceptional. I'm hopeful the team will give their menu some serious thought. The mushroom soup had a lot of potential, the filet was very good, but the onion side didn't add much. The tuna tartare was good, and the remaining dishes just were inspirational yet. I would give this place a second chance once they work through their menu. read more

TLDR - overpriced, food underwhelming - hard pass. Service - B+ very good. Hard to get waiters/servers attention to refill water glasses/ask for extra pita, but otherwise attentive and informed. Appreciated enthusiasm for food. Drinks: C- Extremely overpriced uninteresting cocktails. I tried two cocktails. First, "The Affair" was a purple sugary mess with barely any hint of the base cocktail-a Japanese whiskey. What a waste of whiskey. Second, "The Beeten Path" was a mezcal-based cocktail - it was fine - the balance here was much better than with The Affair though not sure all of the parts add up to an improved whole (hence the C- rather than D or F) Another factor in my rating was how obscenely priced these were. I understand and am prepared to pay a premium for "craft" cocktails at fancy restaurant, but $46 for two sub-par cocktails is a ripoff. Food - C+. My dinner companion and I decided to go a la carte and shared the following: Aladdin Burrata - very good, but way overpriced at $27. This was a tasty starter, but the price point is questionable. It was also odd that there was so little hummus and they only provided two tiny pitas. We asked for more pita but then only received a single additional one. It was very weird. The dish claims to include tamarind hummus, but I could not taste any tamarind in the dish. (Taste A-/B+, pita: A, portion/value/price: C-) Tiger Prawns Diablo - three sizeable prawns, cooked properly, but there was absolutely nothing diablo about them - it was more a reddish cream sauce. They were served with "house made sourdough" but again the restaurant was extremely stingy about providing bread with the course - it was literally one slice of bread cut in quarters. For a $36 dish this is inexcusable. (Taste C+, portion/value/price: C-) pumpkin risotto/scallop - this was a terrible risotto preparation with only a SINGLE scallop - for over THIRTY bucks. The risotto was way overcooked and the pumpkin flavor was missing. Underwhelming to say the least. (Taste: F, portion/value/price: D) Spanish Conchinllo - this was described as a "deconstructed fish stew" - what it actually was, if you have ever seen the Big Short, is the scene where the late Anthony Bourdain describes CDOs in terms of leftover fish in the restaurant - as a way to ripoff customers. This $50+ dish consisted of a few tiny bites of seafood sitting atop a bottarga sauce. It was poorly plated, not particularly appealing to look at, and not particular tasty. (Taste: C, portion/value/price: F) Duck Magret: This was only dish, aside from the burrata starter, that tasted good. It was decent portion of duck with few accompaniments. It tasted as expected, but again I've had many other duck preparations far superior to this and for far less than $45. (Taste: B+/A-, portion/value/price: C) Desserts. We tried two - epcurious cacao and the golden pear - both read better than they tasted and, again, were way overpriced at $17+ per dessert. The smoked chocolate desert felt very gimmicky and the golden pear just a disappointment - the flavors never came together it just tasted like sugary goo. (Taste: B-, portion/value/price: D) I cannot recommend this restaurant at this price point. For $160 + tip per person you can find many, many better restaurants. read more

My favorite restaurant in DC. Ambiance and presentation are top notch, including the exquisite glassware and plateware. Can't go wrong here.

The name says it all, imperfect. A disappointment after wanting to go here for some time. The service is awful. From the long wait for the table despite the reservation, to the bar which ignored us for some time and then returned with the wrong credit card, the waiter who insisted on all courses being ordered at once (I refused), and so on. Nothing about this place feels special. The only memorable dish is the duck, and sadly it's because how over salted it was. The best part was when we got the check because we got to leave...and because it comes with a delicious complimentary white chocolate bar. Pass. read more

We ordered the whole menu to try out everything since we had a party of 6. Their cocktails were good. The reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is because of the food. Nothing was impressive if not worse than what I could've paid half the price for somewhere else. I was very happy with the service tho. But for a restaurant to charge that much, the service alone is not to enough to have us come back. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Imperfecto! After visiting their sister restaurant, Seven Reasons, we were very excited to try Imperfecto and it exceeded expectations. From the food to the service to the ambiance, everything was fantastic. We did a few cocktails, the chef's tasting, and the wine pairing. Drinks: We have the old fashioned and Coast to Coast. Both were delicious, beautiful and not too sweet. Food Highlights: The foie gras add on was AMAZING. The lamb was so delicious and perfectly paired with an amazing red wine. The espresso éclair might've been the best dessert I've ever had. Ambiance: Everything in the restaurant was beautiful. I loved the plates, glasses, and cutlery. WOW! Had a celebratory dinner last night and the food, the service and the vibe were all amazing! This space is as beautiful as the food is delicious. Notable items for me were the cauliflower, the tuna tartar and the truffle pasta. Also the zucchini soup amuse was awesome. Given that it was a Weds night and so soon after New Years, it wasn't too busy- so conversation was super easy too. Loved it. Will be back read more

Imperfecto was a great experience! We decided to make reservations here since it was walking distance from our hotel and a has a Michelin Star. The service at the restaurant was impeccable; the staff were attentive and friendly and kept the food service moving at a great pace. Our group of three decided to do the tasting menu and we didn't regret it. The tasting menu was advertised as 5 courses but it ended up being 7 with two extra courses offered as compliments of the chef. Each course was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. I can see why Imperfecto received a Michelin Star (We have also dined at Two Michelin Star restaurants and feel like this was just below that level of experience, taste, and service but the food and service was certainly deserving of a Michelin Star). We tried a few cocktails which were all delicious and perfectly balanced. Prior to the 3rd course I also asked the Somalia his recommendation for a wine to pair with the next two courses and he did not disappoint. He recommended a lovely red with nice fruity flavor which was delicious with the 3rd course pasta dish, but also contained enough tannins to stand up to the 4th course steak dish. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience at Imperfecto! I would highly recommend the tasting menu at Imperfecto to anyone who happens to be visiting DC. read more

We were excited to come to this restaurant for brunch but it did not live up to the hype. We called to adjust the reservation (by 15 minutes) and the person could not find the reservation we made by phone the previous evening. When we arrived, it was not busy but we were left unattended with only drink menus for about 35 minutes. We finally had to request menus from the hostess. Meanwhile, we received our beverages but the The descriptions of the food were fantastic, and we could not wait to dig in. After waiting some more, we received laughably small but pricey entrees. The mushroom omelet sounds great, yes? Well, it looked like a one egg omelet with a half of a diced portabella mushroom on it with two little triangles that represented the plantain brioche (I think that is how it was described). The plate was underdressed - a small salad would have made the meal look brunch worthy. I had the burger (don't judge - LOL) and it was excellent. The food was very tasty but everyone (except me) was still hungry, and we were openly discussing where to have second brunch when we received our check. The atmosphere was nice - the bar looks inviting. The plates were beautiful. Service was sub par - we waited a lot and no one checked on us - and the portions were teatime portions. Worth a one-time experience (they are Michelin rated) but I think I will find another brunch spot. read more

This restaurant's charge is a fraud. When we book the restaurant, they sent us a message claim they charge 22% service fee to pay waiter's wage. And then, after we finished the meal, the waiter told us they need extra tip as that 22% service fee do not go to their pocket. It's for restaurant. This is totally fraud! read more

One of the best meals we have had in so long we started w cocktails, the imperfecto club was too pretty to drink! (But I did anyway) and apps- the tuna carpaccio and the tomatoes- highly recommend both! We then had our mains as the lamb and the truffle pasta both were incredible! Ended with the eclair (TEN STARS) and the pear dish. The pear was the only dish the entire night that wasn't a home run and it was still delicious. Thank you Imperfecto! I have not yet dined at Imperfecto. This is a review of their reservation process ONLY. Apparently the only way to make a reservation is online. When we called the restaurant directly we were told we would be sent a link to complete the process online. Whatever the business reasons for this, it basically amounts to asking the customer to do the work. We also asked the person on the phone if the 7:00 time slot was available for the evening we were interested in, and we were told we could not reserve at that time because "we like to keep the 7 o'clock hour open." I dine out often and this is the first time I've heard that line. We we turned our attention to the website, we learned that we had to enter credit card information, which is fair enough because no-shows are expensive and the restaurant has a right to protect itself, but we were also required to put down a $25 per person deposit. Again, I do not know all the business intricacies here, but if they have the card number, they don't need to run a deposit charge. They can just bill the card if we no-show. What's worse, the website also indicates that we would be charged a $3 service fee for using a credit card. Now given the price points at this restaurant I would guess that 100% of all customers use credit cards, so this is just not-very-well-disguised price increase. Apparently the booking and billing services are handled by a third party provider and they may be the ones imposing the fee, but if so, Imperfecto needs to find a different provider for this service, absorb the cost, and factor it into its menu prices. The website also required an email address, and now we will be bombarded with marketing messages. Bottom line is that before even setting foot in the restaurant, the experience with setting up our evening has left a sour taste in my mouth. This is supposed to be the hospitality industry. They are supposed to make things easy for guests and make guest feel welcome not make us jump through hoops just to spend our money. If anyone from management is reading this, I would urge you to rethink how you are handling reservations. read more

I'm not sure how I was randomly added to their email list but they reached out about opening so I thought I'd give it a try. I was able to easily book a reservation and like most fine dining establishments they ask about special occasion and general notes. I have peripheral vertigo so I put in a note requesting a booth to the side as sitting in the middle of the floor makes me uncomfortable and triggers nausea. We get to the restaurant and find parking easily. Everyone greeted us with a lot of enthusiasm which made us feel welcomed. However we were seated at a small table in the middle of the floor close to the kitchen door so there was some foot traffic and that was unacceptable. I noticed two open booths so I asked if we could be seated there since I requested it and they were open and they said they could not accommodate this. I decided to just try to push through it. As the evening went on, I became more uncomfortable. The waitress only acknowledged me and only directed any answers or explanations to me and so obviously so that my boyfriend couldn't even hear what she was saying. It was also generally hard to hear the bus boys or whatever they would be considered when they would bring dishes. We already felt out of place because none of the other patrons were people of color and neither were the staff outside of those working behind the kitchen, so this just made me feel more uncomfortable. But the food itself was really good. They had a few complimentary items to start don't know what they were called because couldn't hear them explain it. They had a few vegetarian options but we decided to eat seafood this day so went with the seafood rice and octopus which was very tasty ! The octopus was a little too charred but there were tons of other flavors to make up for it. The fried cauliflower was also amazing and light yet tasty. Was my favorite. The creme brûlée was made with goat cheese and initially I was concerned it would be too cheesy but omggg the berries balanced it to well I love tartness so it was a great touch. The food is probably 5 stars but the atmosphere, the lack of accommodation which ended my night with nausea and other vertigo symptoms, and the non diverse atmosphere are what brought my rating down. It's really hard to truly enjoy anything when I'm that uncomfortable. read more
