Revising my review as I'm not given a means of otherwise stating Owner/ Manager? Alessandro T. is lying about the events he describes in his reply.
He also seems to think Yelp is for only good reviews?
This is an actual review of our experience trying bring business to this restaurant.
TO ANY PROSPECTIVE DINERS, BEWARE THESE REQUIREMENTS FOR DINING HERE:
* absolutely no reservations
* don't bother calling; the staff is extremely nice, but the management is not on the same page or communicating - this leads to misunderstandings
* dont bother with any more than 8 people if you want to sit together (we had 9, and inside, that meant someone is sitting in the server's walkway)
* dont allow yourself (the customer) to be sat without your whole party - this one killed us - everything would have been fine had we all been able to show up at exactly the same time.
* don't ask to sit outside if part of your party sat down already (or abandon your party? patio seemed way nicer)
* parking is not an easy walk for older folks - hills & 2 blocks away
* did I mention no reservations yet? the BUSINESS MANAGER practically wanted to beat this into me
Pro-activity here killed our first impression with the business, instead of , you know, starting a tab early.
I called ahead 1 and 2 days before to warn I had a large party, and to get info on how to bring them with "no reservations". We had expressed we wanted to wait for outside seating, and were told "no problem".
Apparently the real gripe was that half of us were seated early for 20 minutes and the BUSINESS MANAGER was frustrated? before I arrived because they had moved tables around a bit. My wife and I had just arrived, to celebrate with both local and traveling family. They weren't full inside, and had tables wrapping up outside. I had no idea there was a problem with asking to sit outside, or any issue the BUSINESS MANAGER seemed to already have.
Pro-Tip: the RESTAURANT should maintain control of its tables. Insist parties have their full party present if you are a "no reservations" place. In this case, timing would have been perfect for what we wanted, but a really smart Manager would have seen those 20 minutes as a means to get a large tab started early - especially with open seating available near the end of your rush.
The first words I heard from the BUSINESS MANAGER were not to me, but his WONDERFUL STAFF trying to help a "large" party out. He said "no, not them" the second their VERY FRIENDLY STAFF offered to help us move to tables outside, which we were willing to wait for. I walked over to the small lobby to ask what that was about.
To be very clear: no children were harmed in the making of this review.
A 3 year old tripped behind me while I was holding still at the front counter. I stopped immediately to check on the kid and mom, who left calmly without voicing any concern.
That being over, I turned back to what I thought was a conversation with the BUSINESS MANAGER. It is at this moment afterwards that I started to ask why we couldn't be moved, and tried to have a normal conversation with the BUSINESS MANAGER directly.
His response was to interrupt me every few words with "no" or "no reservations". He wouldn't even let me say we were there to wait. Instead, he felt like he'd bring better business by manipulating the events in front him, and continued to interrupt, insult and threaten to fight me, while stepping up into my face.
I would love to mark this off as a misunderstanding, bad timing or whatever - but when the BUSINESS MANAGER threatens violence without even having a conversation about the situation - there is going to be a REVIEW of the BUSINESS MANAGER.
For any diners who were present that day - I do apologize for the disruption. You did not see the whole thing and I don't fault you for any genuine support you might show this business. I'm sure there has been a lot of "real" good here or I would not have tried to celebrate a big occasion with family here.
The BUSINESS MANAGER represented the restaurant very poorly in this case, and my party moved on - a real shame. There was no need to threaten violence.
If the REAL OWNER pays any attention to the quality of this business - toxic leadership will kill it. I see all these wonderful reviews about the food, and surviving the pandemic, and GO SMALL BUSINESS, and we were really excited to dine here. That will never happen, and you have to ask how much business are you losing to the BUSINESS MANAGER's attitude. I KNOW I'm not alone. Your food, location and staff are the real winners in your 700+ reviews.
I truly hope no one from the staff was mistreated by the BUSINESS MANAGER over this incident - you all were great and tried to help because we spoke to at least 2 of you on the phone ahead of time, trying to prevent any kind of hiccup in our attempt to eat there. TYVM service folks - we all saw you try. read more
