On a visit from NYC this weekend, I stopped in here while shopping Kitchen Kettle Village. These pretzels are quite simple the BEST I have ever tasted. Much fresher and less expensive than Auntie Annes. Lovely Amish girls behind the counter and the pricing is unbeatable. I got three fresh pretzels ( the right amount of salt and butter, handrolled to perfection) and a small lemonade for $ 6.00 IN YC, you can maybe get one pretzel for that price in the mall. After recommending to a colleague that these are the best soft pretzels ever, I was curious if Immergut's would even have a Yelp page. I remember when my parents and I lucked out and found this place in my youth, and it was long before Yelp even started. How silly I was to think Yelpers would not be raving about this place! I have ordered the soft pretzels and lemonade for years, and I have enjoyed them at all hours of the day. They are best fresh out of the oven and SO cheap. The lemonade is perfect, not too sweet. There are also cheese and mustard dips to enjoy with your pretzels. Over the years, the popularity has definitely increased, and it's no longer quaint. However, the quality remains good. I had high expectations going in due to the high yelp rating. It held up. They have 6 pretzels that we tried and we loved 5 of them. They can be messy so having some wipes is helpful but their mustard had good flavor, Carmel and cheese were on point. We had the whole wheat, regular, garlic, sesame, and cinnamon sugar which were solid. We did not love the onion. Part of that was the topping was a big mess, but it also felt like the topping overpowered the pretzel whereas the rest it didn't. Worth a stop and in my top ten best pretzels I've had. read more

Immergut is a local last name, but it also means "Always Good" in German and that's what these pretzels are. Don't be put off when you walk in and see 2 pretzels in the case (or none). That's actually a good sign for you. That means they will make a hot fresh one for you when the two people in front of you buy those. DO WAIT THE FIVE MINUTES! It's totally worth it. We were in Intercourse for 4 days and had a pretzel there every single day. We went "rogue" and tried a cinnamon sugar one, but decided the plain old salted ones were our favorite. We didn't get any dipping sauces because these pretzels are delicious on their own - a little sweet - a little salty and always delicious! Even after reading the previous reviews, I didn't believe that a soft pretzel could be much different than the generic Auntie Anne's and Philly Pretzel Co. types. While I do like those, Immergut re-defined a good soft pretzel. They are made to order, which means that you may have to wait 5-10 min, but it also means that you get a hot soft pretzel fresh out of the oven. After ordering, you are sent out on the porch where they have a viewing window for visitors to observe the labor that goes into rolling and twisting the dough. The outcome is a buttery, salted and slightly crisp crust surrounding a chewy, doughy center- and is truly unlike any other soft pretzel I've had before. Immergut means "always good", and it's true. Despite being a bit soggy after hours of sitting out, the flavor was still there, and was revived by throwing it in a toaster oven- usually pretzels dry out and harden over time, but not these! I mustn't forget to add that these tasty snacks are less than $2- even the sausage pretzel wrap (pretzel dog) if you want something a little more substantial. read more

Since my first review, I have moved from Central Pennsylvania. I can tell you that the number one, and probably only, thing I miss about central Pennsylvania are these pretzel. There is literally nothing that can compare. The dough is perfect - it's sweet, salty, buttery, and yummy. They brush it with the perfect amount of butter and add the perfect amount of salt. Perfection is the only thing they serve. I'm not joking about freezing them. Like, I am having more than a dozen driven down to me in Florida I love these things so much. Get them, freeze them, store them in a freezer bag, and take them home. Reheat on a low heat. Buy some of the delicious sweet mustard - it's like anything else and you can only get it there and a few other places in the area. It's also the least expensive there. They are always fresh and served to you hot. You might have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. Even the lemonade is good. Don't even consider going to another one of the pretzel places around. You will be disappointed. Or, I mean, you won't know you are missing these heavenly, God-sent pretzels, but just trust me, no where is as good as this place. No where. read more

Immergut ("Always Good" in Amish) makes arguably the best pretzels in the world. Granted, I have only eaten homemade pretzels in a handful of states, but the pretzels here are phenomenal. Freshly baked, with a hint of lemon, they are chewy and delicious and buttery, and seriously, perfect. I'm truly happy I live so far away, otherwise I'd weigh 500 pounds from eating these (multiple times) daily. The Amish ladies that work here must have some secret recipe, as I've never had a tastier pretzel. A local woman I had a nice conversation with while waiting for my freshly baked pretzels mentioned that she comes over several times a week for the ham and cheese (pretzel sandwich?). I was instantly jealous that I hadn't ordered one of those as well, but it's already on my vacation itinerary for next time we're in the area. (A little sad, I know!) Love at first bite. Ohmygosh these are the best pretzels we tried on our Lancaster excursion. Immergut pretzels are FRESH, HOT, and made to order. Already had pretzels earlier in the day at another place, we opted to be conservative and just split three between the two of us. We waited for about 7 minutes for our doughy goodness to be prepared, and couldn't wait to dig in once we got our hands on those buttery little things. We tried the whole wheat, garlic, and cinnamon sugar. I have this to say for Immergut: they go big with the toppings! Each bite of the garlic pretzel was like inhaling a whole clove. And it was amazing. Definitely my favorite one. These pretzels are tall and skinny (best way I can describe it) as opposed to the short and stout variety down the road. Love, love, loved my soft pretzel here! Was able to get it without butter, which was great. My husband ordered a regular AND a sugar crusted one and loved them both! I wish I had read the previous review about freezing them because I totally would have done that! They are extremely affordable and SO SOO SOOO good! I love a shop that does one thing really really well and doesn't try to do too much other stuff. This place does pretzels really really really well and doesn't try to do too much else! I used to be able to say that I didn't like soft pretzels and would only eat them when the mood struck (I know I live in the wrong area of the country). Now, having had one at Immergut, I can be a snob and say that I only really like *their* soft pretzels. We stopped in while strolling around Intercourse and enjoying the Rhubarb Festival (I participated in the Rhubarb Derby, where you attach wheels to a stalk of rhubarb and race it down a ramp! I lost.), and I wasn't even going to try a pretzel, but my husband's sesame pretzel, fresh out of the oven, looked so good that I had to have a bite. And it was so amazing--unlike anything I've ever had before--that I ate at least half it. I washed it down with some lemonade that wasn't tart enough to be the best, but was still good. I'll have to agree with the other reviewer, the pretzels at Immergut are phenomenal! We've eaten many soft pretzels and these were the only ones that we had to go back the next day to buy some more. We only wish we had found Immergut earlier in our vacation to Lancaster County. Earlier in our vacation, we had bought the soft pretzel at Kitchen Kettle Village to let my in-laws try a real Amish soft pretzel. Unfortunately that one was hard and very chewy at the same time. It's too bad we didn't discover Immergut until after they had left. We'll definitely make a return trip to Immergut when we're back in PA. read more

I had read great things and had high hopes. To quote my paternal unit "This pretzel is way better than that one in Lititz (sturgis pretzels" These may be the best soft pretzels that I have ever had. I bought 8 to go. I've had this spot bookmarked for the past two or so years and I finally made it down Old Phila Pike to check it out. Bottom line: it did not disappoint! We parked at Kitchen Kettle and walked over, and there were a few people ahead of us in line which actually gave us time to review the menu. Settled on two regular pretzels with hot and sweet mustard and a medium lemonade. The Amish girls who were working were so kind and incredibly friendly. I really enjoyed watching them make the pretzels as well as one of the pizza wraps (looked so amazing!). Our bill was around $6.00, which I thought was fair. They have deals, i.e., buy four pretzels, receive a fifth for free. We waited for our pretzels to come out of the oven and then walked back over to it car to enjoy. They are best hot! I got the cinnamon sugar and it melts in your mouth with the deliciousness of every bite. I have done nothing but crave another one for the last 5 months. Pretzels were worth the drive. They make only a few pretzels at a time so they are always fresh--right out of the oven. We had sour cream and onion pretzel. It was properly seasoned (not too salty) and buttered (flavor full without being greasy). Minor complain: the spicy mustard wasn't spicy enough. I can overlook that as the pretzels were superb.
