Countryside Roadstand was an excellent stop. This establishment has what I've been looking for....Shoe-Fly Pie (with ingredients that I could pronounce), Amish made candles, local honey, and much more. They even have a large area, adjacent to the store, that has goats. You could feed the goats and they'll come right up to the porch area and stick their cute heads through the slats. It was a delight visiting this business and I hope everyone visits, as well. read more

Here for the pretzels. We always try to drop by when in the area. Best fresh pretzels for me hands down. I like that these are skinny and not as thick as other pretzels, good ratio of crisp to chewy. On the salty side because of the salt and with the cheese it's sooo good! Lemonade is not overly sweet and does not come with ice - perfect for me! P.S. don't take these home, you just need to finish those pretzels on site. Not sure how the softness lasts but these pretzels harden and there's just now way to bring these babies back to life. read more

This is a place is a gem! When you drive up on the right side of the building make sure you order their delicious pretzels. We love the salted ones with butter and always order three to share with my husband. There is nothing better than a hot pretzel. We love that they are not too thick. My husband loves their apple cider milkshake. Inside you will fill just about anything to buy. I bought their local honey and bee pollen. I can't wait to get home to try both. Outside around the back you can enjoy feeding the baby goats and other animals. We love this place. It is always on our list of places to stop at least twice in a week during our visit. The employees are so friendly and are willing to share about their Amish life. Stop & enjoy! read more

Countryside Road Stand is a little soft pretzel 'stand' that also sells house decor, jams, preserves, and pretzel mixes. The hubs and I usually stop by to grab some soft pretzels with a cheese cup to-go while heading back home. Pretzels can be hot and fresh with a slight crisp, or handrolled out a bit too thinly; we've had pretzels that were sometimes on the 'tough' end and lacked the butter/salt. The place is always hopping with tour buses, as the place welcomes large groups with its signages. Just note that the property has a small farm in which you can feed the animals (chickens, roosters, goats, alpacas, etc.). Some damn good pretzels! Had many as PA resident. These, among the best-if you like "Auntie Anne" style over Philly style. Texture is perfection! Buttery, flaky, CRISP exterior gives way to light, fluffy, center. So light, be advised they go down like water! Had regular, garlic-herb, cinnamon-sugar- they all delivered & had perfect amount of salt & seasoning. Only complaint, they're a tad small. Gift shop, animals you can feed, it's a farm so prepare for flies, not much seating. Out-of-the-way location makes it difficult to find, but worth the trouble. read more

Got pretzel and custard to split with family... I had a much better pretzel the day before at the Westtown Amish Market, so by comparison this wasn't the greatest pretzel stop (and the other place is 35min closer to my home, for bonus points). Our custard was a cute little swirl, but it was hollow inside, so a disappointment there too. Tasted good enough but the chintzy air-filled center felt dishonest. Store was clean and organized but nothing for me in there. Staff was polite and thoughtful in their work, except the deliberate hollow cone. read more

CASH ONLY. This is THE place to stop at if you ever visit Lancaster PA!!! They serve amazingly yummy hand rolled pretzels at $2.50 each. They come in 3 flavors (original, cinnamon sugar, and sour cream). I recommend one of each because they are ALL delicious!!! They offer cheese and mustard dip for 50¢ but the pretzels don't need dip because they're so good. They also serve soft serve ice cream and hot fudge sundaes. Both also good but damn those pretzels are the BAIT! I tried their root beer float and it was good too. Lemonade was alright, nothing special. All their prices are decently low too. Definitely a great stop after visiting some farms. The pretzels are all that matter honestly. When ordering, be sure to remember what you ordered and account for it. The one lady who was serving us almost forgot 2 of our items until we reminded her. I don't blame her because there was a rush but just something to be mindful of. read more

Hands down THE BEST Soft Pretzels you'll ever have in your life! Originally came years ago with an Amish Tour Bus and have been visiting each summer since. The Pretzels are the main reason I come but they also have fresh homemade baked goods, body care products, toys, and souvenirs inside the store. They also sell homemade root beer which is great to try but beware, it doesn't taste like your standard soda. The Prices for the Pretzels, Freshly Squeezed Lemonade, Milk Shakes, Ice Cream etc. are amazingly priced for sure. I usually buy in bulk, at least 6 pretzels at a time (don't judge me). Don't get sucked into the tourist trap pretzel places in Lancaster County. Save yourself the time and come straight to Countryside Roadstand. It should be pretty simple to find if you have a gps. read more

This place makes a celiac SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous with its amazing smelling, buttery aroma of a soft pretzel! That said, while I couldn't have any, the hubs devoured two while busy dipping it into the mustard dip. They have a 3 pretzel deal. Save yourself the trouble and just get 3 - you won't regret it, and there won't be any left after 10 minutes. Very cute shop, local root beer, milk, and ice cream. I also really liked how they have Amish homemade canned vegetables/fruits, and lotions/ointments. I bought a few natural sunblocks, and while it takes a little getting used to, I love how I can actually read and recognize every single ingredient in the jar. That's definitely never happened before. The scenery around this shop is also just beautiful, especially at sunset. The serene landscape and the green takes your breathe away. Definitely worth a visit, or a few. read more

THE BEST SOFT PRETZEL EVER. It's simply perfect, fresh out of the oven with a sweet, salty and buttery taste. I always get several every time I come to Lancaster, it's $1.75 for one and $5 for three. I'm a huge pretzel fan and I haven't found better ones, so I visit Lancaster twice a year (from NYC) for no reason other than the pretzel. There are also root beer, lemonade and ice cream you can try from the store, but my main goal is the pretzel so I only had the lemonade once. The store also sells Amish crafts and quilts, and I always find interesting things to buy. Make here a "must-see" on your visit! read more

Oddly, I think in 30+ years of visiting this area, today was my first visit to Countryside Road Stand. My son, who is 18, has a refined picky palate- he likes very basic tastes, but like artisinal versions of that. He asked if the original Auntie Anne's was here (near Bird-in-Hand) and I endeavored to find the best pretzel in the area. By a large margin, Countryside Road Stand was deemed to be it -- across review platforms. Apparently they also had amazing lemonade and root beer, two of the other probably five things he eats. It's also like in a weird maze in Ronks or Leola, even if you've traversed these roads a billion times. You're gonna need navigation, bet. So it's like 5-10 minutes from Bird-in-Hand, and it was inundated with older folks. As others have said, the pretzels are 3 for $5, we bought nine pretzels for us and two other teenagers who were too lazy to leave the hotel. And we got a big growler thing of root beer, which my son (a root beer aficionado) believes is amazing. And he got some peanut butter kiss cookies, for himself. And I got a chocolate fry pie for me, because I love fry pies SO much and chocolate is missing from commercial fry pie offerings. The pretzels were definitely worthy of the hype. They're pillowy and light in ways you expect from pretzels, but have some substance to them. Perfectly seasoned where they just taste like sourdough (faintly) and butter. A tiny bit of salt that melts into the whole thing. You will end up not discarding any pretzel pieces. They really, truly are probably the best pretzels going. And it sucks if you go on a Saturday because they're closed Sunday and you WILL want a pretzel the next day. ETA I think these pretzels have a maillard reaction thing going on where the butter and dough catalyze into cloudy magic. Farm stand lemonade was good and is always better than you remember. And if you're a fan of local foods, and you have a cooler bag, bring it. They have Amish roll butter at $6/lb, raw milk, cheese curds, cheese, bologna, and a ton of baked goods. Apparently there's homemade ice cream too which is kinda logistically weird since there are like 1.5 Mennonite girls in a window that's uncomfortably small. ETA we were running in and running out but I regret not picking up some of their handmade soaps or better scoping out their "bottled" things. Also the people rung up in front of us dropped $577.77 on a quilt and it was low-key bagged into a force-flex trash bag. IDK why I feel that's relevant but there you go. In addition to the excellent pretzels and root beer, this place is a) a great local food stock up place and b) reasonably priced. In fact, I'd suggest devoting a late breakfast or lunch to just pretzels and root beer if your Lancaster dance card has space. We're definitely gonna be back on future trips and you should definitely eat their pretzels. read more

I know you have read the other reviews, and probably get the point about the Pretzels... but in all honesty it can't be said enough.. These Pretzels are amazing! I find myself craving these pretzels at the strangest moments: Middle of the night Mowing the lawn Climbing Trees Dancing with Wolves While bathing ..... And of course every time I see a soft pretzel anywhere! I will continue to Believe that these are the best pretzels in the world until proven otherwise...It's also just a really cool little Amish store that's off the beaten path, and I must give props to the delicious lemonade as well. They have the best soft pretzel we've ever had in our lives!! Yes, it's all about butter!! But does she hurt having it once in a long while. But man, we are thinking of that soft pretzel everyday ever since we left. We will drive 3 hrs away again for your pretzel !! The strawberry milkshake also taste wonderful!! Other than snack, it is a gift stores together. It carries some local art like quilting and some wooden art. Nice stop in between destinations for snacks and souvenirs!! Best pretzels! Get the honey mustard for dipping. I also tried the homemade lemonade sold in the retail part and I'm still dreaming about it!! Their prices for yard decorations are the best I found so far. I went to green dragon flea market and they both sold similar items and countrysides items were significantly less!! I bought a solar light welcome sign from a miniature horse farm in strausburg thinking I got a good deal...but NO! It was cheaper here!! This place is great for kids too since they have a wide array of animals you can feed and a playground. Only complaint is that tour buses come in and make it a little crowded. I like the "secret roadside stand not quite over run by tourists" vibe soooo maybe don't actually visit after reading this! More pretzels for me! read more

While walking through Penn Station, I finally succumbed to the smell of Auntie Anne's Pretzels. I ordered a pretzel hotdog, not because of flavor and taste, mostly because I figured it could hold me off until the next time I was able to have pretzels from this Countryside Road Stand. I also figured the inclusion of a hotdog would help out with flavor. Biting into Auntie Anne's pretzels was kind of like biting into a miserable Monday, everything just felt bland, dull, and I'm almost positive the hotdog was made of raccoon and dead mobster boss (which in any other circumstance is awesome). It was sad, just sad. At any other time of my life this snack would have been acceptable, but Countryside Road Stand pretzels have ruined any other pretzel or pretzel related product for me. My head wandered back to that bright beautiful cloudless day. I remember a little Amish boy handing out a sample and I thought "Awww poor little guy. This will probably be bad, but I will help them out and buy a pretzel." How ignorant and foolish of me. When I tried that sample and felt that wonderful texture and flavor of the salt and the contrasting sweetness of the dough, with its perfectly baked warmth, I had to remind myself it was just a sample. Walking up to the window in childish anticipation, I watched as the ladies inside cranked out pretzel after pretzel with out a moment of hesitation. A pretzel fresh out of the oven here is simply perfect. It was like the sample pretzel, only exponentially better. I don't know what they're putting in these things, but maybe its more about what they're not putting in it: the preservatives they're not putting in it, the real ingredients that are going into it. The flavor is wholesome, yes it is a flavor, and when you have one, unless you're a cynical prick that can't appreciate simple things, you will smile like a small child and want nothing more than another. read more

I looked away for a second and the piranhas that replaced my family left a mere grain of salt on the wrapper - waah! I've been ruined for life by this quaint little Amish roadside stand, for these delectable intertwined baked rolls of dough will forever serve as the bar that I use to measure a great pretzel. Oh yeah, make sure you sample the non-carbonated rootbeer (.25 cents per dixie cup - honor system) and the baked goods in the store. I wanted the shoofly pie, but it was a tad oversize to stuff into a backpack, so I opted for the mini whoopie pies - pumpkin & chocolate! Mmm. Pretzels were $1.79 for one or three for $5, a no brainer - buy NINE, you won't regret it.
