I was looking for a special, hard to find bulb so I went to Illuminations. I was charged $19.90 per bulb. I needed 2. So, I spent $43.24. When I got home, I was curious because I felt it was so expensive so I put the bulb on Goggle. It came up on Amazon (the exact bulb) for $7.25 per bulb. I know Illuminations is expensive but this price is robbery! It would have cost me a total of $16.25 from Amazon. If I had known, instead of opening the package, I would have returned it and ordered it on Amazon. The owner of the store asked me to write a review for him so here it is. Plus, he is not cute which he asked me to include in my review that he is cute!!!!!!!! I called Phillip to ask if he had possibly charged me the wrong price and told him that the exact bulb is on Amazon for $7.25. His response was that the bulb on Amazon is not the same as the one he sold me. The manufacturer makes it different from the ones he sells and that he pays more nce on Amazon but I didn't know how to look up the bulb that I needed. Back in 2011, I bought a Minka-Aire ceiling fan from Illuminations. Last month, I replaced bulbs in the unit, but the bulbs were too high in wattage (and heat) and cracked the decorative bowl. Of course, the fan is now discontinued and replacement parts are virtually impossible to get. Fortunately, when I reached out to Phillip at Illuminations, he identified my fan from just a photo and he told me he had my part. They still had a model on display and he offered me the part from that fan. He saved me the burden of having to replace my fan. He didn't even mark up the price beyond the list price. Sorry there is no ZERO!! The owner/operator and mechanic are rude, smug and not accommodating. After hanging a wall fixture, my electrician told me the socket was defective. Yes, the light bulb fit but not after a struggle. I was back and forth 3 times- all I requested was the socket to be replaced as per a paid electrician - they refused based on the fact that the bulb could fit. The electrician replaced the socket for me independently and now I can rest easily knowing that I can replace the bulb myself when needed. After paying additional for a new socket, the extra hour of labor for the electrician to return - I finally have lights! Please DO NOT PATRONIZE this business....there are plenty of light places in Brooklyn as well as the Bowery. He is overpriced!! I just wanted to keep the local business' in business but after paying way too much for my fixtures (I found the same fixture on line at a popular store for almost half the price!) - I understand why people shop around. The other one was going to be ready the following week and he called me the next day to pick it up. Both look great and the work was excellent. MOST INSULTING AND DEGRADING SHOPPING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Read all this and save yourself the trip to Illuminations,,,,,,, I brought my vintage lamps there to try and find shades I liked. I should have known I was in trouble when I told the owner Phillip (be warned..you know his name now a scary, rude and angry guy) "I had something to show him" (I had brought some crystal pieces from my chandelier to him) and his loud reply for ALL the store to hear was "well don't take it out of your pants"! Ummm....Widely inappropriate to say to a new customer at the least but I ignored it and pressed on with my lamp shade needs. He gives me a a staff rep named Darlene to help me. She had half her teeth missing, tattoos up her forearms and looked like she was allergic to bath water but who am I go judge....she was helpful enough UNTIL she asked me "why I wanted to know the measurments of the one shade I had tried on the lamp" When I told her "I need to know the size to comparrison shop and make sure it fits my space at home" she promptly abandoned me without a single word and went to do nothing at the front desk instead. Ummm...ok. The owner Phil comes back over (and I'm there all of 10mins. mind you) and I ask him "can I try a second lamp shade" and he says "NO" Shocked I say "why" he says to my face "we aren't going to waste our time with anyone who isn't going to buy something from us, why would you want to comparrison shop anywhere else, that is why Darlene walked away from you, she won't waste her time" Readers I kid you NOT! I said "I don't think I'm comfortable buying anything from this store anymore" and he said "good, fine, have a nice day" Ummmm......no chance of that happening anymore Phil but thanks! Did they want my first born child and the deed to my house also for the purchase of two lampshades?! Heres a valuable lesson Philip.....THIS IS AMERICA Phil, anyone can comparison shop! Its YOUR job and YOUR staff's to make me feel so great about my shopping experience that I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Instead, in 10 mins in this shop I was harrassed with embarrassing lude remarks of a sexual nature, abandoned by my sales rep within 5 mins and told by the owner in no uncertain terms that their time is far more valuable than my time there and if I wasn't going to commit to give them my money that day at moment then I wasn't welcome to be shopping there! As I left this store, dejected, embarrassed and shocked with my unshaded lamp in tow I noticed I was the only customer there and didn't wonder why. Phil, I'm in customer service too and if I EVER treated a potential new customer I had just met and needed help with a purchase like that I wouldn't have food on my table or a roof over my head. You should know better at your age that it was YOUR job to make me a loyal customer not demand that I be one first! And if your staff member abandoned me after 5 min. cause I wasn't worth her time, you need to fire her and put her salary towards taking some customer service classes for yourself so you can set a good example for them not teach them the most effective way to drive away the customers! Ironically when I entered your store I was excited that after all this searching I was finally going to purchase. You blew a $250-$300 sale because I wasn't worth your time when you thought there'd be the smallest chance I'd look in a second shop just to be sure of my purchase. Real Smart! To add insult to injury, I had spent $45 on chandelier parts there the day before and HE was the one who asked me to come back with my lamp the following day! HOW, could they think after that, that I wasn't a serious buyer! I'm literally taking the effort to carry in the actual lamps! LOL I"m SO sorry I spent even that much there and acutally went back a second time only to be abused so badly. The owner gives the impression he worships the almight $$$ and the hell with the customer. When I left and went up the road to Cutlers lighting and told them what I just went thru, they laughed and said "Oh, yeah we've heard from many others about this guy" LOL Everyone reading this and in need of shades or lighting, save yourself a lot of insult and injury and go to "Legend Lamp Shades and Antique Lighing" in Great Neck or Huntington Station...blows away the selection and service of this idiot and his insignificant store.....and God bless the Amercian Consumer...the customer and their experience is ALWAYS the most important factor of ANY business no matter what! So this store has a good selection of lighting products and knowledgeable staff. No question. The problem we had is that we ordered an expensive light fixture and were told at least twice "you can return it if you don't like it". As another Yelper points out here, there are NO REFUNDS. STORE CREDIT ONLY. I think it is logical to assume that if you are told you can return it, that if it were the case that there are no refunds, such information might also be considered to be important and included along with the 'you can return it' phrase. So we're not happy customers. If we had been told at the start 'you can return it for a store credit' rather than just 'you can return it', that information would have colored our decision to go ahead with the order. read more

Was at this store yesterday looking for a specific bulb for my chandelier. After going to 2 electrical supply houses,Lowe's and Home Depot I could not find this bulb. I dealt with Phil the owner and he was amazing. He was super knowledgeable about what was needed and was told if bulb didn't fit I would need an adapter. I had a specific style that I was looking for, everyone tells you the same thing to walk around and let them know when you need help. That all changed when I went to Illuminations in Rockville Centre. Waren the sales rep was fantastic! When I told him what I was looking for he gave me a choice of specific fixtures that I absolutely loved. I was able to bring the fixtures home to see how they looked and if it did not work I received a store credit so I could try something else. Philip, the owner, likes to degrade his customers. I will never set foot in his store again and it is MY OPINION that you do the same. Just so you all know, he even threatened me if I write a negative review. Well as you can see, it didn't work. Here is the story. Went in to order a light. The light was not in stock so I left a deposit with the owner's nephew whose name I forget. Went home and saw the same light for significantly less money. Within 45 minutes to an hour, I called the store and told them this. They insisted it wasn't the same light and I asked if they could order the one I saw for anywhere near the price. I am more than happy to pay something extra to support a local merchant. They said no, but since they hadn't ordered it from their supplier yet, they would immediately issue a credit back to my credit card. Well almost a month later and still no credit. Spoke with the owner who insists he never authorized a credit and will not give me one. Note that he admits we never received merchandise and he admits he never placed the order. So he is out of pocket not one red cent. Other than his ego being hurt there has been no cost to him. Philips typical routine to watch out for, is he tries to smooth things over by offering you special light bulbs. Well, before he does that, he should probably make sure that the fixture actually takes the bulbs he offers. Well Philip, so much for your threats. Everything in this review is true. The owner has been seemingly kind and innocent in this email. But that is not real. He is cutting in person. I was given a form to sign and a "gift card" for the previous refund. He was now converting the paper refund to a gift card. I was not trusting. Phil you didn't share the rules/conditions attached to the gift card and you were not willing to share. You wanted me to sign your handwritten form which was not quite legible.. You didn't like that I started writing I am signing under protest before I signed. As I wrote I am, you pulled the paper from me removing the option and PUNISHING me for not wanting to sign your form and what you wrote on that form. You said since I didn't sign that I get nothing meaning no American Express refund either. A convenient way to continue to keep the money people have lost to you. I now have a refund that you made sure I could not spend. How many times should I try to buy something from you? How many times will I allow you to try to make me make feel like a fool? I just had the perfect opportunity to fill a need and spend my refund but you didn't let that happen, If you had done what you needed to do which is to confirm when ordering that your estimated time was correct, you would not tell me a month later when I had to call you to check on my product that was promised for 2 weeks, that the supplier still will not have it for another month or more making it about 9 weeks. Seems to me you didn't order it or do your job by checking on the arrival date. That is fraud my dear Phil. You get to keep my $100 and I don't get my product. How many times should I try and find a way to spend my $100? I know I am not the only one you have done this to. Is it so hard to run an ethical business these days that you feel the need to "steal" people's money? That is unfortunate. read more
