Horrific experience. I went in looking to spend hundreds for two custom made lampshades. I wanted to shop their products and experience their customer service style. I made the mistake of asking for measurements on the lampshades as I wanted to make sure they fit my space and also make some comparisons in quality and pricing online. WELL...the very milisecond the owner and his staff suspected there may be thee slightest possibility that they may not get my money, instead of impressing me and working so I'd never shop anywhere else, they turned their backs on me, walked away and ignored me. Literally! They left me standing there alone in shock and stood just a few feet away and stared in the other direction like 5yr. olds! And I was the ONLY one in the place! Until the nasty owner Phil asked me to leave! How is THAT for making customers feel welcome. How can any business in this age of online competition ever dream of treating a potential paying customer this way. The owner is arrogant and nasty and he has his entire staff trained to behave the same way. I left in utter shock and embarrassment. Do yourself a favor and go a bit further out to Legend Lampshades on Jericho Trnpke in Huntington. You'll be blown away by the selection! Puts Illuminations to shame! Not to mention you'll be made to feel special and welcome. I ended up spending $500 on the two lampshades and couldn't be happier. Or use Lampsplusdotcom for chandeliers. Even if you're just strolling past Illuminations, walk a little bit faster past this store! The negative energy just coming from the front door is toxic let alone going inside, you'll feel dirty just speaking to these clowns. Of course he'll come on here and make some lame excuse as to why he is right but don't believe it..its all part of their arrogance and crooked business practices. Very unprofessional and dishonest people at Illuminations. We are doing a kitchen renovation and brought our kitchen electrical plans that we already had purchased from our kitchen cabinet design company to Illuminations. I was simply looking for light fixtures to go over our island. Philip asked to see our layout. Philip said that the lighting design was all wrong and that he is a "professional lighting expert" and for $300 he would design a professional and proper kitchen electrical and lighting plan for our new kitchen. He said the $300 could be used towards a future purchase so we paid him $300 + tax. He said his professional layout would include recessed high hat lights, pendant lights over the island in addition to outlets and light switch's. The next morning we went to Illuminations to meet with Philip and pick up the plans. We were very upset that Philip took our existing electrical/lighting plan from the kitchen cabinet company, whited out the original high hat lighting, made a photo copy of it and then made some pencil marks on it showing us where he thinks the lights should go. There were no measurements either out from the wall or how far apart the high hats should be placed! There were no measurements either out from the wall or how far apart the 3 pendant lights over the island should be placed either! Additionally, there were no light switches or outlets shown at all! We were supposedly sold a 'PROFESSIONAL' electrical and lighting design layout but that is not what we received. It was merely a tactic to get us to purchase the lighting from them. TIP: Whenever you see a store, like Illuminations, offering EXCHANGE or STORE CREDIT ONLY on returns, it's not a good sign. Buyer beware. read more

Illuminations is a beautiful lighting store that offers both new and old trends covering a variety of styles from farmhouse chic to midcentury modern. Their prices vary from high-end to affordable, but they are always reasonable. Phillip and his team have a family friendly approach to customer service, offering warm conversation and delicious fruit infused water to sip on while you shop! After suffering major damage and flooding to my home during Hurricane Sandy, my favorite lamp (purchased elsewhere) had damage to its shade. I tried to get the lamp repaired by the manufacturer, shipping it across the country only to be told they were unable to make the repair. Low and behold, Phillip and his team of experts were able to make the difficult repair for a very low price and I still have my favorite lamp 7 years later! Most recently I purchased new bulbs for my track lighting under my kitchen cabinets and Philip showed me a variety of options for new bulbs and educated me on other low energy lightbulbs that are available on the market now. He was able to order the hard-to-find light bulbs I needed and had them ready for pickup in a few days time! I couldn't be happier all around with Illuminations and will never shop anywhere else. Thirteen years ago, after many months of searching in NYC, on Long IsIand, and in CT, where I was moving, I finally found 2 matching bedroom lamps of my dreams at Illuminations. They were unique and lovely, with reversed painted scalloped shades. Last week, one of the shades broke into a million pieces after accidentally being tipped over. I was devastated! How would I find the matching shade 13 years later! I called Illuminations with the info on my 13-year old invoice, and Darlene told me the company that made the lamps is now out of business. But she said to come in and she would see if something could be done. When my husband and I arrived at Illuminations, Darlene met us with a wide grin and showed us a catalog of a different company that had the same reverse painted designed shade. Overjoyed, we asked if we could order the lamp shade and Darlene happily said - "We have it in the store" - and brought it out to show us! We were so excited to think that 13 years later, Illuminations could accommodate us, and Darlene was genuinely as delighted to surprise us with the lamp shade as we were! Philip and his staff at Illuminations are incredibly helpful and highly knowledgeable. They are all about customer service and making customers comfortable, informed, and happy. I have been shopping at Illuminations for over 15 years and appreciate them very much. They are one of the few private retailers left that care about their products and customers. Just recently I bought two light fixtures that were missing parts (in closed boxed). Clearly a manufacturer error but Philip took it upon himself to take the parts off the floor samples to give them to me for the inconvenience. Same thing happened with light bulbs when I realized once installing them that they didn't fit the fixture. He not only took them back without a problem but exchanged them for higher end light bulbs and didn't charge extra as a way to compensate for the hassle. I think many would agree that we as consumers are no longer prioritized by retailers in the same way and it is refreshing and much appreciated to see this happening at Illuminations. One reason I like going into Illuminations in Rockville Centre is because they sell quality items. If you want to buy bulbs, for example- you can buy them at the big box retailers, and you might find them at really cheap prices, but that is just the issue - they are cheap. They are not at all the same quality as the ones that are sold at Illuminations. And I got quite an education from the owner, Phil- along with his very nice sense of humor. In one case, not only was the color emanating from the bulb i was buying much better - but the quality bulbs he sells don't make that annoying humming noise, as they do from the big box sellers. In addition, Phil is the first one to tell me not to buy something from him, but to stick with what I already have in place, in my home. I wanted to get a fancy light switch, and Phil strongly recommended that I stick what I have. That impressed me and makes me go back to shop there again and again. I wanted a high quality chandelier and was not able to find it until I went into Illuminations - the showroom is large and has a vast supply of lighting on display... I found both salesmen to be very nice people and with a sense of humor - I tried to haggle a little but the prices were firm and I did not push it because the chandelier was a quality piece and was prices competitive - By the end of the sale I added in the light bulbs and the dimmer switch and was given 20% of the switch by using the coupon from their web site and was given a free box of bulbs - I wanted to install the light right away and did not want to wait for delivery and Philip allowed me to purchase the display- they had it packed up efficiently and put it in the car for me - they gave me directions on the installation process and I had it installed in less the 30 minutes - it was the perfect size for the room and look fantastic - I will be back for future lighting needs... I normally don't write reviews, however I had to take the time to write about my positive experience with Illuminations! I purchased a new lighting fixture for my newly renovated bathroom. Working with Phillip, he suggested the 3 bulb fixture as it would be more than enough light for my bathroom, however, if I wasn't 100% satisfied I could exchange it without any issues. After installing the light, I really felt I needed the 4 bulb version. I took Phillip up on his offer to exchange the light for me and he did without any problems at all. He gladly took back the 3 bulb version and allowed me to upgrade to the 4 bulb version (just paying the difference fixture). I could not be happier with my lighting fixture and my experience with Illuminations. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a new light fixture. read more

If you are looking for lighting fixtures, chandeliers or fans this is the place. Do not waste your time on line looking or going to your local Box store. The stores showroom is quite extensive so you can physically look at lighting, fans or fixtures. A 2.5 watt LED bulb began to flicker on a torchiere lamp I purchased at Illuminations over a year ago. I recalled Philip telling me of the unusually long warranty (5 years) on the 2.5 watt and 25 years on the 9.5 watt, but I figured, as with most things, proof of purchase must be provided. Though I did manage to find and bring with me the original receipt, Philip never asked to see it or hesitate to produce a brand new bulb as a replacement. I like this shop. Prices are internet competitive and he has all sorts of beautiful lighting for that extra special fixture you are looking for. I highly recommend buying you lighting here. Everyone was friendly, knowledgable, and really helpful. They suggested I bring a picture of the rooms and that really made it easier to choose fixtures. When we had a couple to choose from, they were able to explain why one might work better than another because of size, direction of light, amount of light etc. When the fixtures arrived, they examined them carefully in our presence. Philip, the owner, is an accommodating fellow. Years ago, he thought outside the box and swapped out the lamp shades from the original fixtures to make my wife and I happy. Recently one broke so we ordered new ones, but they were slightly off from the original color...no problem he said. He has a craftsman, Rich, who can match the color....and Rich did!
