Incredibly rude service. Made a reservation for a table with stroller access as we have an infant. When we showed up for our reservation, they only had a table available for us on the second floor accessible by stairs. The host said "you should have told us you had a stroller", and then when asked to help us bring the stroller upstairs, the host said to me as the father: "I thought you were a big boy." No apologies or efforts to try to accommodate us. After going upstairs and seeing two large groups all with their menus on the table clearly having waited a long time for someone to take their orders, we immediately left and will never set foot in this place again. read more

Finally, my boyfriend and I have discovered fantastic Italian food in Arlington! We came here for his birthday and the staff really made it special for him. The food was absolutely delicious - we got bruschetta, pasta, salads, and the prosciutto wrapped scallops of course. The only thing we were even *slightly* disappointed with were the scallops, because you only receive 2. However they were very large! For the first time ever at a restaurant, so much seafood was included in the linguine di mare that I couldn't finish all the pasta. And in love pasta!! Geez, what's with all the 5 star ratings for this place? It really is not anything great by any means. I went for the first time last night and wasn't impressed with the food or the service. First off, in general the prices are terribly inflated. I heard "family style", but it really only applies to the pasta, and sauces cost extra! Do people really want plain all you can eat pasta for $6.50? The a la cart sauces you can get all come in these tiny tiny serving bowls which really are only sufficient for one large serving. Hardly the big family style meal it's made out to be. I didn't try any of the sauces, but none of my dining companions seemed thrilled by any of the selections. The general consensus was "eh, it's nothing special". I got a house salad which had fresh greens but a balsamic dressing that needed work. Very acidic and VERY salty. Did not taste fresh made. I've had better dressings out of a bottle. The bread they served was also not good. It honestly tasted like stale wonderbread. The best deal seems to be their pizzas. I thought $9.95 for a small pie with eggplant, zucchini, garlic, mushrooms, and mozzarella would yield a tiny pie but it was quite large with very good crust. No sauce to speak of, and a bit dry (and unevenly cooked), but the crust was pretty good. Definitely the only highlight of the meal. Overall, I'd say the pizzas are a good deal but I can't imagine me ever coming back here. Please allow me to join the chorus of cries for better service at Il Radicchio. We came on a Friday night where we asked to be seated outside and were pointed to a table. After about five minutes, glass of water came and we were told that someone would be around to take our order. See, what I didn't realize was that someone coming around meant that it would take more than 15 minutes. Like idiots, we sat there for about 15 minutes while one waiter, maybe two, bustled around us doing stuff for other people. Finally, we just left and went somewhere else. The karma gods smiled on us as a few minutes after we were seated in a new restaurant, it started pouring for about five minutes. Travel down Clarendon Blvd towards Rosslyn and you will find a little shack that serves up some of the greatest Italian cheap eats around. Shack may sound like an unkind word, but I mean it in the kindest of ways. It's homey and cute (love the murals). This is a Roberto Donna concept (Galileo is a sister concept) and it's hard to imagine him having a restaurant that's inexpensive, but he does, and this is it. Think up any Italian dish and chances are it is on the menu - the menu is bigger than the restaurant. Their wine by the glass list is short, but sweet (the prices are great!). They have some really good panini's and I hear the pizza is good too (you can construct your own with about 30 toppings to choose from), I just can't bring myself to cheat on The Italian Store any more than I already have. Spaghetti can be ordered about 30 ways and is served family style. And the daily house specialties always feature something delish. Oddly enough, you can even order rotisserie chicken here. Pizza and pasta Donna right. I had thought that Roberto Donna of Galileo just came to Arlington (Crystal City to be exact) and opened Bebbo for affordable pasta and pizza meals but I was wrong. His first spot is Il Radicchio and the food is fantastic. When we dined here we split a pizza, salad and two beers for just under $30 bucks without tip. That's a fantastic price for the quality of food we had. The pizza had a crispy chewy crust, spread with a fresh tasting tomato sauce, peppery arugula and salty prosciutto topped this fresh tasting pie. The only thing I wish was the the prosciutto was put on after it came from the oven. I think it might have tasted a little better had it been cooked with the pie but still one great tasting pizza. The salad was your basic mixed greens, apples, Gorgonzola and walnuts. Nicely dressed and plenty to split. The pastas are plenty to choose from and you get to choose the sauce you want to top it with. It's a novel approach that allows a group of folks flexibility for a tasting session. I'm definitely headed back for the rotisserie chicken. I can't imagine Donna not doing that bird justice. read more

Been here once and never again will I go. As soon as our server realized my husband and I weren't ordering drinks, he immediately turned his attention to his other table that did have alcohol. He wanted nothing to do with us. We ordered the unlimited pasta and again our server was not pleased, so it took a while for refills. After we got our food, I noticed he also sat down at a vacant table to eat. Now, I have worked at four restaurants-I understand servers work all day without breaks and need to eat. But our server was in plain sight, and it's a hospitality rule to be hidden if you're going to eat/text/gossip on the job. Just think of it as if you are going here only to eat spaghetti. It's great. We love the lamb sauce, the pistachio-gorgonzola sauce, and the mushroom sauce. Actually, we haven't found a sauce we didn't like, and we've tried just about all of them. Don't try to go here with a group on the weekends without reservations. It won't work, and you'll be unhappy and hungry. I think that it's not fair to compare Il Radicchio to Galileo. Yes they were both started by Roberto Donna, but Il Radicchio is meant as a low cost alternative that still brings with it Donna's unique sauces and flavors. You pay one price for the pasta (all you can eat) then buy the sauces separately. Many of the sauces are unique, and not what you'd find in a typical Italian restaurant. The pistachio gorgonzola in particular is very tasty. I've also sampled the pizza and found it tasty, certainly better than the pizzas offered at Donna's Bebo Trattoria. The wine is questionable, but not very expensive. I've found the upstairs to be excellent at accomdating large crowds as well. It's official - Il Radicchio has become my go-to Italian place in the DC area. I've been twice now and have tried their family-style pasta and pizza, and both have been delicious. The plethora of sauces ensure that even your picky friends will find something they like. The pizza was also amazing, and they have a lot of choices there, too. I tried the pizza with Gorgonzola cheese, Parmesan and pears. Delish! The crust was flavorful and substantial, but not too crispy. The individual pasta plates looked great from afar; I can't wait to come back and try them. It's true the bread they serve before your meal could be improved upon (ummm, served warm, maybe??) but overall the food tastes pretty authentic for the area. We have tried to get to this place for weeks and another place that's closed on Monday (just an FYI). We sat down and got right to business. We got some wine, beer and the bread was dropped off. It was yummy like little pieces of ciabatta and its served with oil for dipping. We got the side salad which we devoured (I would recommend ordering two because it's pretty small to share but it's not necessary). I order the penne vodka with chicken and asked for more bread for dipping! I enjoyed my dish - the only thing, I felt my chicken was kind of spicy or heavily marinated. I just expected grilled chicken so it did taste a little off because it makes it taste differently. My suggestion is to let the sauce do all talking for the dish - the chicken doesn't need a lot of flavor besides some salt and pepper maybe. My bf ordered the chicken parm (no surprise there) and he had not one complaint and I tried it too and it was scrumptious. Il Radicchio is fantastic little restaurant right on the edge of the Rosslyn/Courthouse border. The menu features a lot of your normal Italian food fare but it also includes some specialized items that are not to be missed!! The chicken Milanese is a perfect dish. The chicken is always cooked perfectly and the arugula salad served with it is a perfect compliment. The lasagna is an Italian restaurant staple and Il Radicchio made sure there's is worth trying. By far my favorite item on the menu is the all you can eat pasta (they just updated the menu so you can choose between 4-5 different types) and the pistachio di creama sauce. This is a white sauce, not to be compared to an alfredo, but a heavy white sauce that's just amazing! I've been to Il Radicchio more than 5 times now and every time it's been a lovely dining experience. The added benefits of Il Radicchio are the private parking lot it shares with Rhodeside Grill and the private dining room upstairs which worked perfectly for my rehearsal dinner. If you're looking for an excellent, casual Italian meal, look no further than Il Radicchio. I don't think you'll regret it! read more

Whomever said that the low reviews were from non-Italians is wrong. I'm Italian, and this place's service is worse than service I've had in Rome, Naples, Torino, etc (hey, being a cute Italian girl helps a lot with that). From what I've seen this isn't a case of "Italian family manners" either (the staff is a pastiche of ethnic groups). No one in my loud, annoying Italian family would hang up on people and keep them waiting for food while they goof around. To imply that that's acceptable because of our culture is wrong. It's bad customer service, in my opinion, and nothing else. The place looks a little small on the inside and the building looks outdated, but that didn't stop us. The service was efficient and our food came out quickly. Solid 3 out of 5. Maybe 3.5. A good local option if you're on the Wilson Blvd. corridor. Pollo Penne - Satisfies. Standard pasta dish made by most places. Some variations are a rose cream sauce, some are a vodka cream sauce, whatever. Pretty good here. Generous amount of chicken, not too heavy, and the pasta wasn't overcooked. Orecchiette Pomodoro - Good amount of capers, which I appreciated. Red sauce obviously isn't slow cooked for hours but it was fresh and filling. No complaints. The pastas always heat up well in the microwave the next day as a decent pasta dish should. Pizza - was good and fresh. It's not NY good thin-crust, but it's not bad at all. Arlington wouldn't know any better anyway. They worship the $13 TrendBurger type places. Service - I had fine interactions in the place and picking up a pizza to go. I saw someone get hissy on here and in the restaurant once. Look, if they misunderstand, it's not because it's a Hispanic run front house. It's because they simply don't care much or you're not communicating well. That's just the basic DC area standard of service and a clientele full of passive aggressive transplants. I ate here with my dad and his diplomatic friends before we (my dad and I) had to both travel to different destinations. Given that fact, we didn't have much time to eat or wait. While I wanted to try out the pizzas, all 4 of us just decided on getting 4 different sauces and them serving it as family style was pretty neat. I got the carbonara which was pretty OK. The other sauces that were chosen at the table were better, including the namesake of the restaurant - Il Radicchio. The one thing that bugged me about the restaurant was the manager. He seems to have anger issues, because he was yelling at someone in the kitchen and it disturbed all of us eating out in the dining room. Unfortunately for us, the kitchen is OPEN and the dining room is right next to it! So while the food is pretty reasonably priced, watch out for a temperamental manager. read more

The first time I went to this establishment there was some slight drama. Basically, I ordered a calzone sans sausage and received one with the offending carnage. I requested a new one, which they promptly made but in their haste they served me a luke-warm beast, with cheese barely melted. When asked how my meal was, I responded as less than stellar and was offered a free dessert. This was not delivered! The second time I went, I ordered spaghetti and some delicious sauces. I asked for a little bit of dressing for the salad, and the waiter brought two small things of dressing just in case. But I changed my mind when I mixed the oils with my tomatoe and spinach salad. Wow. When I finished I was so happy and full, and the wine was just kicking in. I had to thank my new friends for bringing me here. Here is the kicker. It's location is walkable if you live anywhere between Clarendon and Rosslyn. Ok, it's not a fancy italian place. But when did the Italians start making restaurants that look like sushi restaurants. Il Radicchio has some amazing pasta and sauces, especially a mushroom sauce. The hook they use is that they have endless pasta (~$2?), you just buy sauces, which I think are around $8 each. My only complaint, and it's a huge one that keeps me from going there, is that the amount of sauce is insufficient for even one plate of spaghetti, so you end up dribbling tiny little bits out on the pasta and are not satisfied. A second helping of pasta? Forget it. And at $8 a pop, you're not going to get a second thing of sauce. So generally I leave it rather than take it. Too bad because it could be so great. read more

i am giving this place 5 stars (i know i'll get some haters). Let me start out by saying that Il Radicchio used to be a cute, delicious spot for Italian. I probably haven't been there in about 1.5 years. Fast forward to this week, my husband and I went in and were shocked by what we saw & smelled. The curtains by the cob-job ac were filthy, they had some sort of liquid mark all over them-the ones in the front did too. We sat for about 3-4 minutes and noticed an unfortunate odor (dirty, slightly rotten). After that, we looked at one another and decided to leave. I'm so disappointed, because I loved Il Radicchio, their sauce was good as was their pasta. Now, it seems dirty and gross, with the loud tv blaring as you come in. We went to Faccia Luna instead. My bf saw the restaurant and said we should give it a try on a Sunday night. Its a very small space, you really feel very crowded at your table. Shortly after we got there a line had formed to wait for a table. I was surprised they were so busy for a Sunday evening. When we sat down they brought bread to the table. It was soft and delicious. For dinner, I had the pasta with calamari sauce and my bf had a chicken pasta. Both were fantastic and large serving sides. You can get all you can eat spaghetti noodles for a low price and then pick different sauces. I took most of my spaghetti home. They dont have soda on tap but you get a decently large glass of wine if you order the wine. We had a really good dessert also.
