I've been meaning to leave a review for this place for a long time. My wife and I eat here two or three times a month--sometimes more--and always love it. It's truly one of the "last of the Mohicans"--a classic, old-school Italian joint that you just don't see much anymore. I'm not knocking the new, modern restaurants and their creative concepts, but if you're looking for a really good, affordable Italian dinner in a great atmosphere, this is your spot. The moment you walk in, it feels timeless, which only adds to the charm. They have great live music most nights, the owners and staff are incredibly friendly, and the wine bottles are very reasonably priced. It's tucked into a unique, up-and-coming neighborhood that's a mix of industrial and residential (with some really nice new condos being built). If you want a great night out with good music, good people, and delicious food without breaking the bank, you need to check this place out. read more

This was not our first time here but in all likelihood it will be our last. We sat at the bar and after multiple times passing us by the bartender (Steve by the receipt) finally came over to us. He tossed the coasters down in front of us as he continued to speak with customers a few seats down from us. He took our drink order and got it wrong. From the hostess greeting to dessert, the experience was warm and friendly. My wife and I had the prime rib, cooked to our liking, served hot and delicious. Jo our waitress was the best. Went here on a Saturday night after getting a recommendation. I was impressed when I heard I could get 1/2 portions of some Italian dishes as a serving is usually too much for me. We got seated quickly near the bar area but were immediately concerned as there was live music that was so loud we couldn't hold a conversation. Unfortunately that kind of ruined our socializing. I did get 1/2 portion of linguine with white clam sauce, which was the perfect size, still had lots of clams, and was very good. My husband got the 1/2 portion of ravioli, which was only 3, and not quite enough for him. We both had cocktails which came quickly. The service was good, but not outstanding Again, as it was so loud, it was hard to hear the server (or him with us). We will give them another try, but not when they have live music. It was just too loud for such a small place. I did ask if it was always that loud, and was told yes. read more

Don't go on a Sunday evening. Meager portions and terrible service. It like the adults left the kids in charge. House salad did not fill half the bowl. Ordered spaghetti and clams were tough and the dish is swimming in oil, very lazy attention to detail in the kitchen. Staff Was very good at stocking glassware and gathering for a round of Jack Daniels shots from the bartender debut they did not pay attention to the customers. Our newest find (thanks to our friends Teri and Jimmy who already were coming here). We adore this place, cannot believe we never knew about it, but now we do and we have been here every weekend since! The best description is it is an old school local Italian joint...That means they share the love in every way you can imagine. Now we love eating at the bar and meeting everyone, getting to know the bartender, getting recommendation's about the menu etc. We have made it our mission to work through the menu one dish at a time! I have to say we have been doing a great job as we have tried multiple dishes over the last 4 visits so far. The extra virgin olive oil made into their house dipping oil with their herbs etc is off the charts with the hot fresh bread they serve. There is always a specials list which makes it even harder to choose what to order. They offer some homemade pastas one of which is their homemade raviolis...YUM... we have had their 1/2 order and full order of these. Love that they offer some dishes as a half order or full so you can have a little of this and that! We have definitely gone this route a few times because we love a fabulous leftover later in the night at home. Plus you gotta leave room for their dessert! Fave so far is the chocolate mousse cake! We have had pastas, chicken, fish, steak and veal dishes so far. Enjoyed each and every one. We saw someone have the pizza last week and boy did that look great so maybe next visit. Listen, the food is delicious, the service is phenomenal, the bartenders just terrific, service with a big smile, make a great cocktail and make you feel very welcome. The owner Steve is always here checking in on everyone's happiness from start to finish. It is simply a home away from home atmosphere, very fair prices on everything including the drinks (try to find that anywhere else down the shore!) You will wait on Friday or Saturday, but it will be worth it. Artichoke hearts Francaise were perfection! The lobster ravioli actually had good size pieces of lobster in the raviolis ( they make all their raviolis fresh & in house), and then it came in a lobster crème sauce, definitely worth a try. Finally got back here. Friday night with some very good live music at the dinner hour. Place was very busy. Service was busy yet attentive. Food was very good! Had the mom's salad. Nice size portion. Always a great experience here, even on a busy Sunday night and a bit of a wait, our waitress kept us updated on our food and was so helpful with our toddler (they have coloring books!) But il Posto (the place) deserves top reviews for their delicious truly authentic Italian cuisine, such as escarole & beans, arancini, & homemade ravioli and other pastas! We didn't expect much on a recent slow Sunday evening (7/28) - but were surprised by the same high quality. And before you knew it, the place was filling up with lively locals who know good food. The bread is good. That's about it when it comes to what's good. The waitress was a snarly lass dressed in her finest leggings and biggest frown. She messed up the order twice. The Sunday sauce was served with a frozen slab of bracciole. The wine tasted like it was on the verge of becoming a salad dressing. I'm all about the great deal and it's on Tuesday's. All the appetizers are half off and $5 wine. They also have half portion pasta specials from $10 to $14 dollars. They even have live entertainment if you want to get your groove on. lol Now for the food! Crab Balls were delicious! Lots of crab and fried to perfection. Clams Casino were a little over cooked but nice flavor. Wings with parmesan had nice crisp and spicy dipping sauce as well as parmesan cheese sauce. Eggplant rollatini sauce was tasty and ricotta very creamy. Tortolini with prosciutto and peas had a flavorful cream sauce. Totally worth the calories. We also had the $5 house wine. I had the cabernet my had the Chianti. Both were decent. No room for dessert we were stuffed but we danced some of our calories off. lol read more

Came here on Sunday for Restaurant Week and this was my first time here. This place was tiny but really pretty inside. It was also great that myself and my friend were the only ones dining at the time so it was super quiet and relaxing. We both had excellent meals. For starters, my friend got the Clams Casino which she enjoyed and I loved my starter of the Stuffed Banana Pepper. It was delicious and honestly probably my favorite out of the appetizer, entree and dessert I had. For the entree, my friend enjoyed the Braised Short Rib. While I enjoyed the Vegetable Lasagna. Lastly for dessert, my friend had the Almond Tiramisu and I had the Italian Ricotta Cheesecake which was so light and so much different than your average cheesecake. I actually liked it a lot more than your average cheesecake. It wasn't heavy at all. All the dishes weren't too much food. It was just right - not too much, not too little. The waiter was very nice and spaced out all the meals perfectly. The only downside to this place in my opinion is when we were finally done with the meal, it took FOREVER to get the final check until maybe about 30 minutes later we went over to our waiter to request the check. He was also behind the bar as well, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Either way, the food was delicious and I'd love to come back. read more

This restaurant was listed for Restaurant Week (http://jerseyshorerestaurantweek.com/restaurant-list/). We started with the Artichoke Franchise and a Stuffed Banana Pepper. Both were okay. The marinara sauce that came with the pepper was pretty good. Next we had the Veal Saltimbocca and the Braised Short Rib. The veal was great and the mushroom risotto that came with the short rib was great. The Toasted Almond Tiramisu was decent. The Italian Ricotta Cheesecake wasn't very good. I wasn't a fan of the thick crust atop the cheesecake. Also, it didn't seem very busy, but our waiter was nowhere to be found. I'd like to come back to try something with the marinara sauce. read more

il posto has good prices and very friendly staff, and delicious food. I love all of their varieties of sliders especially the short rib sliders, they have big portions with tons of flavor. Always had quick service and good drink prices too. Love the different specials they have during the week, which i was not expecting to still be happening during this time of outdoor dining only. Once again I'm frustrated with no half stars. C'mon Yelp! This is a 3 & 1/2 star rating here! Years ago we at at Mom's Kitchen at least once a week. I gave up on Moms a few years ago. I guess I tired of the menu and just didn't care for their pizza. A staple like spaghetti and meatballs was mediocre. I imagine some of the old "Moms" clientele are disappointed that Il Posto is not Mom's Kitchen II, but even though they may have kept a few menu items intact, this is a new restaurant and I am rating it as such. I P has a more upscale look; it doesn't feel like a family restaurant anymore. That's OK with me. They kept the knotty pine, took down a wall or two, and made the place better visually. High tops by the bar are a nice touch. They have added a couple of taps and I'm glad to see they offer Little Dog beer which is brewed just blocks away. We ordered a family style salad which was fresh, homemade Italian dressing I presume, and very enjoyable. One of us ordered the mussels marinara. I could have dipped a whole loaf of their excellent bread in the broth. I got the bracciole on rigatoni. It consisted of a pork rib, a meatball, a piece of sweet sausage and bracciole. In case you were wondering it's rolled flank steak, parsley, parmesan, garlic cooked in sauce like meatballs. The meatball and sausage were perfect; moist and tasty. The rib and the bracciole were good but they were on the dry side. What kept Il Posto from attaining four stars was the fact that the only item that was hot on the plate was the bracciole. Pasta, rib, sausage, meatball were all just barely warm. If the whole plate were cool, I'd expect the dish to have been sitting on a counter waiting to be picked up; yet one item was hot. It seems to me there's a systemic problem here. It's not as though the restaurant was packed and the kitchen was backed up. Probably no more than 30 patrons. More care needs to be taken in the kitchen. My wife said her entrée could have been warmer too. This is a tough business. Patrons are demanding. It's seemingly little things like this that can add up to disaster if not taken care of. I can see a lot of potential here; the menu, staff and atmosphere are very nice. It's up to Il Posto to step up to the challenges. On a positive note our server and bus staff were excellent! I feel prices are commensurate with the quality of the food. Had dinner at the old Mom's Kitchen, now II Posto. We had frequented Mom's Kitchen many times in the past & it was always good. I like the new look of the new place. They took down the wall between the bar & dining area, leaving all the wood walls, which really opened it up. There is new, modern lighting & nicer table settings. Service was prompt & out waitress was personable. We were served some of the best warm bread I have had out in a long time. We ordered a family style salad as well as mussels in white wine sauce. The salad was easily enough for the four of us & good; the mussels were also good. For dinner I ordered the penne with bolognese sauce. It was quite tasty, but not hot. Overall I enjoyed my dinner & think this place deserves a solid 3.5 stars, which unfortunately is not a Yelp option. I plan on returning & hope to give it a solid 4 next time. read more
