Feeling hasn't changed much. Very reliable neighborhood Irish bar. Now has a nice covered enclosed patio area even in cool weather. Love the classic Irish tavern. Just wish the food was more enjoyable. Bowl size for soup is very lacking. Wings (buffalo) this time were meh. Not cooked enough. Pastrami sandwich had the pastrami crumbling out of it. I'm a regular however bring my out of town guests they are now fans as well. I dine there frequently as I am now retired and always feel comfortable going there alone. . The wait staff is friendly, I know them all by name. Kelly's vibe is such it's easy to meet other bar flys. Went with four of my friends on March 13 to hear the bagpipers. The place is packed. The parking lot is filled over onto other lots. The food was good. For friends had the prime rib. I had the very bland, corned beef and cabbage with boiled potatoes, which the potatoes weren't peeled completely so it was very hard to cut open. Yes I'm talking about the potatoes. Very festive place, the bagpipers go around the bar and play and stop at each corner, which was great then they took a break. Then they put the jukebox on then the bagpipers started to play and the jukebox was still on. Service was very good. Upon asking for a to go box, she handed it right across my girlfriend's face, then walked around her and picked up a plate! We were a half an hour out called. They do not take reservations, but for a table of five there was two left and they had one ready for us. Took my corned beef home, added some pickling spices in it and it was delicious! Looking forward to returning to Kelly's on our current trip to Ocean Grove. Pretty quiet on this off-season Monday evening. We were promptly seated on a "high top" near the bar and enjoyed a couple of drinks while studying the menu. The Honey ordered the French Onion Soup to start and the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. I chose The German Sausage Platter - the Octoberfest special. The soup came and it was burnt! The cheese was actually burnt! It was replaced promptly but why was it brought out this way? The rest of the meal was better, the sausage special was impressive and delicious. Definitely a winner! Very cool Irish pub. Huge bar area and they have outside seating if you prefer. Personally I would much rather sit inside with the bar area they have, just for the atmosphere alone. The food was very good.....I had the open meatloaf sandwich which was good and there was zero chance of me finishing, it was huge. My friends got the Reuben and they both enjoyed it. The service was great. We were seated and served very quickly. If you're on your way down the shore and want traditional Irish food and a quick drink this is a great stop. read more

Been coming here for about 40 years. Always get the Reuben which is excellent. And good breakfast for the hangover.

Came with a bunch of friends and it was my first visit. We stopped in for a drink and load up on food before hitting the next spot. We shared a bunch of appetizers; loaded nachos, blooming onion, grilled wings with Thai chili sauce, pretzels with super hot mustard and spinach and artichoke dip. Always very good and the service was great. Unfortunately we left just when the guy was going to start playing but seems like a great spot to sit on the patio and spend some time. read more

The food is excellent and the service inside EXCELLENT, went today with a friend and sat outside and the service was horrible. I didn't catch the bartenders name( red hair ) but he obviously would have rather have been somewhere else . I would give Kelly's a 5 star rating for inside and a one for outside . I even hesitated to say something to the nice gentleman at the door on way out but changed mind as he is always a good guy and I didn't want to anger him . Service was good. Waitress was on top of things. My turkey Rueben was good; $17.00 for a half sandwich and doesn't even come with fries. I saw on their menu they had an "award winning Bloody Mary". Who was handing out these supposed awards? Seriously? Not even a stick of celery, a slice of lemon or lime. I was going to tell them to hold the olives bc I don't eat them & I wouldn't get them anyway! The drink was so lacking & disappointing. Food was horrible. I ordered chicken wings and cheese fries and first of all the chicken wings had no flavor and really did not taste that good. The fries were not bad but the cheese was probably the most disgusting thing I have ever been served. It was so gross and most of my family did not like it at all. I wanted to share a concern from a recent visit at this establishment. My friends and I, all under 21, were asked for ID at the door by an older male manager. When we asked why, his response felt unnecessarily rude and made us uncomfortable. We've visited many times with our families and have never experienced this before. I have been going here since I was 18, great shore bar. Food has gotten better in the last 3-4 years, it had gone way down hill over the years. Wait staff is quick and always ready to get you a refill on your drink. They have a picture of Ireland over the bar, and as the night progresses you can notice the inebriated looking and pointing at it, trying to figure out where they came from. True Score: 4.25 Stars A real bar with great employees and patrons. This bar saved our trip during the COVID battle. They took the bar outside and turned the bar into a large table. It was a brilliant strategy. We spent hours and met so many nice people who like to have a good time. What a bar is supposed to be. If you find yourself in Central Jersey and are looking for a place to truly maximize your Jersey Shore experience, you've got to check out Kelly's Tavern. Multiple beers on draft and in bottles, amazing memorabilia on the walls, and sports all over the place not to mention very salty heavy popcorn, all add to the imbibing pleasure. Place is funky casual- very loud but lively. Caesar's salad was good and nice size. Black Russian was also very good although they serve it on a ridiculously small plate. Meatloaf was very good with mashed and gravy- nice size potion. We only drank beer so it was fine. Prices were average. Wait staff were very nice and friendly. I can't really complain about Kelly's: it fits the mold of a corner tavern well. It just feels right having a cocktail or two made with a well vodka, then downing it with some corned beef--which works wonderfully as a sandwich. I enjoyed their house chili bread bowl as well, which was executed really well. It was pleasantly surprising how spicy their mustard was, and how each item feels like it's prepared house-made in the kitchen. The decor too is unassuming and looks like an Irish pub that's maintained reasonably well. Service is good, with the bartenders knowing how to make a majority of trendy drinks and ensuring that even some questionable patrons have a good time and dealing with when they've reached their limits. Pricing is on the high side for some items, although it's not too bad considering the quality and authentic feel. I do quite enjoy Kelly's for a quick drink or a night out at a tavern. We've been going to Kelly's for over 25 years. Primarily for their Ruben dish. The first time I went I ordered the Ruben not knowing the size of the dish. I was overwhelmed by the size of it. It was enough for 2. From that point I ordered the mini-Rubin. We haven't been there in 2 years because of COVID. We went this last week and again ordered the mini-Rubin but was disappointed as it was much smaller than the last time. Maybe, they should call it micro-Rubin. My wife ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which was fine, But, the FF's that came with it was much smaller amount than before. Hint, don't skimp on food. You certainly charge more so keep portions the same. People don't mind paying more and expect the same size portion. Finally, at 5 pm the place should have been packed with the beach crowd. It wasn't. Possibly, more competition from down the road or things have changed. read more

It has been a few years since I have been to Kelly's. I remember eating here starting in the 70's. Well it was as great as I remembered. Sat outside on the patio. And of course I had to order a mini Ruben. The best in the entire United States. You can't go wrong with a classic like this. Huge mound of meat, sour kraut and melted cheese. Don't forget the dressing! A must stop when down the shore. Would I eat here again? You bet! read more
