    Lamb lollipops
    Andres A.

What an excellent dining experience. The food and service was outstanding! For starters they bring a small dish of olives which are delicious. We ordered a sampling of several olive oils which were accompanied by warm bread. Tasting the 3 different varieties of olive oil was really good, each complex in its own way. For our entrees my girlfriend had the lamb lollipops served over polenta and I had the salmon served over a cauliflower purée. Both dishes were absolutely magnificent. The salmon was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and the cauliflower purée was insanely good. My girlfriend's lamb chops were cooked perfectly and she loved the polenta. We will definitely come back for other items on the menu. To end our meal we had an almond cake which was so good!

Where to begin? I want to love this restaurant, and the food was fine, however there was something that is preventing me from giving a 5. Let's explore. I knew going in the price point was going to be 40-50 a person and I assumed that the portions were going to be moderate, so I should not be surprised by the check or my desire to grab a snack after we finished. We did not have a reservation so we sat near the kitchen. I love sitting near the kitchen. As a person who used to work in restaurants, you learn quickly everything about a restaurant by how they treat their staff and what are their priorities. The runner was the star of the place. Massimo should give that young man a huge raise because he made every plate sing. There seemed to have been a bet, challenge, or deep desire to sell all the tomahawks. Perhaps at $165 a plate, they weren't going as fast, but fist bumps all around for each sale. I read some reviews indicating the food was fine or meh.... I actually think the food was good, however I just kick myself because most of the items on the menu I can make myself, I should have read the menu more closely before entering but wanted to give the place a second go. The waiter asked us twice if we wanted salads, apps or sides... that should have been our cue. They were selling bread with flights of olive oil, I think my review may have been higher if they threw us a token piece of bread along with the olives. One review indicated the food lacked salt, I may need to agree with my fish however the sausage added plenty of salt to the pasta. All in all if this was a local restaurant, and the prices were a bit less, I would come back to try other items, but my husband agrees it is a nice place, with nice people, with a nice, but limited, menu.

Che figata! Massimo greeted us with warm enthusiasm as soon as we walked in the door and made my girlfriend and myself feel right at home. From my reservation he noticed my name was "Mario" and immediately began speaking to us in Italian and gave us our choice of seats within the restaurant. One glance at the menu and we knew we were in for an outstanding experience. Outstanding doesn't cover it. The pasta was exquisite. My girlfriend and I both looked at each other after 1 bite and both said we'd drive out of our way to eat here again and again. If you want to eat excellent Italian food in Connecticut, this is it. Come here. We haven't found pasta anywhere close to this quality in the entire tri-state area. Drop everything you're doing right now and get over there right now. I'm not kidding.

The service is outstanding, thank you David for steering us towards the best cooked swordfish I have ever had. Great environment. Sat a two top and watched the kitchen do their thing. This place executes at a high level. Try Prosecco on tap w their spritz concoctions. I will be back!

Enjoyed my girls dinner here. The starter focaccia bread is delish but wish it came with more the portions were a bit small. All the pastas looked great and were big portions. I got the bolognese which was delicious but came with so much I wasn't able to finish it. The drinks were great but also on the smaller side. Overall would come back for sure but is a bit expensive

Very lovely vibes, gorgeous decor and beautiful food. But the flavor of the food just didn't hit. The drinks were spectacular. I think all the food items kind of lacked salt. We ordered the octopus which was just a weird dish. I think it needed acid. Pastas seemed homemade but again just felt like they needed salt or cheese, or just something extra. The waiter was great and overall ambience was great, but I've eaten better food at less fancy restaurants.

The menu is some what tied into the Puglia region, which is the heel of the boot. I could tell the italian dialect from the owner when he was speaking to one of the staff, it immediately gave me a good feeling that this restaurant would be really good. The appetizers we had were all really good, we had the fried calamari, the grilled Octopusss, the fried zucchini flowers and thd hummus special. Sorry no pics of these. We had a couple of the Orrechiette Barese, Chicken parmigiana, a pasta special of fettuccine with shrimp in a cream and pesto sauce, another pasta with cavatelli, shrimp and cream and pesto sauce, really couldn't see the pesto, probably could have used a little more or maybe a little finishing with the pesto on top. Service was good and the owner came around to introduce himself and we got a complimentary round of their homemade creama di limencello to finish off the experience. Wr wouldn't hesitate to go again the next time we are in town to see a show.

Lots of gluten-free choices, and very accommodating. The light, crispy gluten free sticks of mutz (Beaded and Fried Mozzarella Sticks served with Marinara Sauce ) were the best I've ever had. Although I took half of the generous portion of orecchiette alla barese (Sausage, Broccoli Rabe, Garlic Oil Sauce ) home. They wound up being eaten for a late night desert. I guess it makes sense to pair fine food with fine wines.

Then I thought of Luigi's and that it was good back then and let me tell you - Luigi's is THE best pizza in CT. That's right. I've had no better in this weird state. Just like the slice I used to get in NY growing up. I asked for lightly baked and the slice folded perfectly, was the perfect texture and actually had flavor and the sauce and cheese were excellent quality- all around a delicious mushroom pie and everyone actually agreed with me! Plus a very friendly lady took the phone order and wow- even though it's not too close for me, this is THE only place I will go for pizza in CT anymore. Thanks Luigi's !

As someone who has spent a summer in Italy/studied abroad, I was absolutely gobsmacked as to why anyone patrons this restaurant! The highlight of the evening was our kind waitress (clearly had absolutely no culinary-based experience and my boyfriend had to open the bottle of wine for her) and the Barolo. That is it. A proper caprese does not feature 4/5ths tomatoes and shards of two leaves of basil. Linguine and clams does not come congealed, with half of the clams closed (ie. dead) and a poor pasta cook (not al dente-- just half cooked). Our waitress informed me that she would be removing the item from the bill.... Um. Hello. I took ONE bite and decided absolutely NOT. We aren't discussing a comp/removal. It's inferred. And the 'tortellini in brodo'?! That I waited another 30 minutes for? Store brought chicken broth, no herbs or elevation. Absolutely sad and inedible. We will likely just contact AMEX. Maybe it's because I'm a New Yorker, well traveled and a damn good cook... Because this place!? Oh no. Blasphemy. Just no flavor or love-- I've had better meals and experiences in a college dorm. Oh! Pro tip! Please don't sit an elegant party of two next to egregiously-behaved children who require medication and therapy. The experience was a fail at "Hello. Party of 2?" *And "this guest" still paid the bill and tipped graciously amidst a very disappointing meal-- as it wasn't our waitress' fault. Alas, management won't take the onus that the food is subpar. Bravo.

It was founded by Italian immigrant restaurateurs and business partners Nunzio DeTommaso and Biagio "Gino" Riccio. DeTommaso ran Gravina Pizzeria in Greenwich for a number of years before it closed, while Riccio is most well-known for founding Quattro Pazzi Café in Fairfield in 1997. In this new collaborative venture between the two, DeTommaso and Riccio serve authentic New York-style pizza in a friendly and casual atmosphere. The name "Vespino" is a reference to a brand of mopeds which are a popular mode of transportation in major Italian cities. In addition to the signature New York-style pizza, the menu also consists of Detroit-style pizza, Italian entrees, pasta dishes, salads, classic antipasti, beer, wine and craft cocktails. In summer 2024, Vespino was sold to restaurateur Marcelo Acosta. My family and I recently had dinner at Vespino for the first time. We've had them on our "must-try" list of restaurants for some time and we were excited to finally sample their food. There were some fancy-sounding drinks on their cocktail menu, so I decided to order the "Sardinian Special" (Redemption bourbon, prickly pear, citrus, mint). This delicious cocktail reminded me of being on a warm Italian beach: a nice distraction from the freezing cold temperatures outside. For food, I ordered the "Burrata Pizza" (mozzarella, tomato sauce, topped with/ fresh burrata & EVOO), my wife ordered the "Tortelloni" (peas, prosciutto, mushrooms, vodka sauce), our older son had the "Kids Chicken Tenders" (w/ fries), and our younger son had the "Kids Penne Pasta" (w/ butter). We all really liked our food! My pizza had a crispy crust, really creamy burrata, and an excellent sauce! My wife loved her pasta, especially the vodka sauce). Overall, we all had a great experience at Vespino and would love to return. Next time I really want to try their Detroit-style pizza.
