Il Miraggio has all the makings to be a tourist trap, it's right by Trevi Fountain, and outside the restaurant, it has both English menus and people outside with the sole motivation of getting you inside, but this place isn't too bad, the food is far from the best in the city while certainly costing much more, but if you're looking for a quick bite to eat while seeing the sights, this place is OK and there's certainly far worse. I first visited this place back in 2015 when I visited Rome for the first time, and my experience was OK, I then decided to come back nine years later after hearing they continue to offer gluten-free options, due to having limited time before heading back to the Airport to find anything else. The gluten-free pizza base is quite good, it's a thin Roman-style base which was pretty tasty, on my recent visit I ordered a gluten-free Margherita pizza, and while the sauce/cheese didn't taste as good nor as fresh as others I've had, it was still pretty good. The staff seemed friendly enough however the place certainly didn't feel authentic, it is obviously aimed at tourists visiting the Fountain. Service was a little slow but I'd rather they take time to cook it with care, especially being gluten-free than rush the food and potentially make me sick or mess up the quality. 3* - OK, It wouldn't be my first choice to visit but is certainly a reasonable option if you have limited time and are willing to pay a little more than you would elsewhere for the convenience. read more

My husband and I were walking around and got pulled in by their happy hour deal and cute vibes! My husband got a Hugo Spritz first and a beer second, and I only got a Mirto spritz (I'm slower than he and just wanted a casual drink). They also brought out olives & chips for a snack which my husband loved! The server was very friendly, we really enjoyed him! We didn't order any food, but did see they had a gluten free option as well. No extra charge for sitting, which is something they stated when they first sat us so that was nice as well. read more

The area around the Trevi Fountain is a complete mob scene, thousands of tourists many waiting in line for a seat at a bustling establishment. Noise and chatter fill the air. Walk a few blocks and you will find Il Maraggio. When you get here the whole environment changes. The maître d' greets you with a warm smile and treats you like a member of the family. You can sit outside, but if you want a quiet romantic experience, dine inside. The menu is robust. As an appetizer we had the Artichokes (Roman style). They were fabulous. For the main course we had the vegetarian lasagna (white not red) and the grilled sole. The maître d' came to the table and filleted the sole expertly leaving nothing but a luscious delight. My wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant on 30 August 2023, our first day in Rome. "Mo" was in front of the restaurant recruiting business and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed it so much, we went back on 31 August. Food was delicious, wait staff was on point, and very courteous. As a matter of fact, on our second visit; my cell phone battery was very low and we forgot our back up battery. The restaurant actually had a multi-port charging station just for this purpose. Think chef boyardee in a good way. The chef used an authentic Italian pasta sauce based on his mother's recipe, and the authentic SatdiniAn pasta tasted just like it. My capreae salad was fresh, large, and delicious. The local wine was good, and the prosecco delicious (maybe why I am correcting so many typos). Nothing better than lunch at an outdoor table in the middle of Rome with pleasant service and fresh tomatoes. read more

My wife and I were heading from the Forum towards the Trevi Fountain on the tourist trail... We wanted a bite and a glass of wine on our way. Detaching ourselves from the masses, we headed down a side street to a quiet little square. Il Miraggio was no mirage! Outside tables in a shaded, quiet setting. Friendly staff and very attentive. Our waiter, Simion (sp?) was great, brought out our pitcher of the house white wine right away while we looked over the menu. The menu offers a wide selection from quick snacks to full course meals. Everything we saw on neighboring tables looked great, and we noticed that many of the tables were occupied by locals (or at least Italian speakers). The restaurant specilizes in Sardinian dishes, so I tried the Gnocchetti Campolenia. It was small "gnocchi" shaped pasta in a pomodoro sauce with spicy sausage. It was delicious. My wife had the Caprese Salad. Thick slices of ripe tomatoes and mozzarela with lots of fresh basil leaves. Also delicious. The price was reasonable, the atmosphere relaxing and the staff great. Right around the corner from the Trevi Fountain and Victor Emanuel Monument. It's about halfway between the two. They have gluten free options. Gluten free pizza and pastas. After travelling from Positano to Rome, stumbled out of the hotel both tired and hungry. After strolling through the streets in search of food at about 5:30pm, found Il Miraggio. I have had many Amatricianas in my day, however, this place takes the cake. Feeling betrayed by my host's recommendation because the food is just average. I ordered the spaghetti all'amatriciana and there was no hint of chilli; the sauce itself is just meh. Not worth the price. The low rating is more due to the shoddy service. Our waiter nearly forgot to even give us our menu and when it came time to pay our bill, he rudely told us to go get our change at the front desk. This was obviously so they could quickly boot us from the table to accommodate more guests. Didn't really make sense as it wasn't busy and other tables were available.. So why the rush? We loved our stop here between the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. This was the first gluten free pizza we found and our diner who was gluten free and loved it. Servers don't check back after food is delivered, but they never do. I ordered a chicken salad, and it was mediocre at best. I can say with confidence that a salad you make at home will definitely taste better than this. No special dressing or whatsoever, so I had to use the balsamic vinegar and olive oil provided for me at the table. The wife and I spent the morning at the Colosseum and we wanted to escape the crazies for a minute. I had read some reviews about il Maraggio on yelp because my wife was ready for a gluten free pizza in Italy and we decided to give it a try. It was located between the Trevi Fountain, the Victor Emmanual Monument and the Pantheon but was super quiet since it is off the direct path between the three but not more than a mile from any. We started off our meal with the gluten free prosciutto pizza which was really good. The prosciutto was chopped up and not greasy at all. This was not the best gluten free pizza we have ever had but it was up there. After destroying our first pizza in Italy we still had wine and were hungry and were coming off the best Caprese salad we had ever had the day before so we ordered one to share. It was OK at best. The presentation was nice but no herbs and they brought me the olive oil and balsamic to put on. I'm at a restaurant so you can show me what you got, so step up and give me two good bases with a little pop! So the place is super nice and fairly quiet even though it is centrally located to the three attractions listed above (we walk a lot and found it within walking distance of the Colosseum as well). The staff did a nice job and were very friendly. The outdoor seating was comfortable with no traffic going by. Prices were OK but if you are getting gluten free you expect it. I was very hungry and we came upon this lovely little italian restaurant, they provide gluten free food here and I think it must be good for it here, based on Yelp reviews and it broadcasting it, in big letters on a blackboard. I had a lasagne followed by a nice, cold larger. The lasagna was very nice and the larger helped finish it better. They had desserts which looked very nice, I was too full to try but I will recommend here. Slight improvements needed for five. read more

Tucked away from the hustle of the tourist crowd while being near the thick of it all in Rome. I found it was a relaxing place to have a quite meal. The waiter was a bit slow. Every time we asked for his help, he told us: "just a second" and went somewhere else. I can't really blame him, because he was all alone, but it is something bad for the restaurant. The food itself was great, but they charged us €6 for using the table, which even though is pretty normal for restaurants in Rome, it was expensive. This restaurant barely had A/C and charged our table $9 to use the restroom when only 2 out of 6 of us actually used their facilities. The caprese salad was 10 dollars and lacked any sauces such as pesto and also lacked any sides.. the plate was basically empty. Eat here on our last night in Rome but would defiantly not recommend. Service was good and staff accommodated our party of 4 by seating us on a table in our preferred location outside of the restaurant. Cafeteria type menu with plastic chairs and tables. Food was okay but defiantly had the feeling that it was not necessarily freshly cooked. This became evident when we ordered dessert as these were straight out of the freezer / plastic Tupperware. Crunch came when we received the bill and 12% service was added, I took this up with the waiter who said we had to pay it and I said I would like to speak to the manager but would have to go into the restaurant to do this... so manager effectively refusing to come and discuss. Paid bill without 12% (nearly 20 euro) amount and walked away. I was the accosted by the waiter with a few abusive choice words and asked to go back to the restaurant where it was pointed out that the menu notified us of the 12% charge and that she had been advised by her solicitor that she could make this charge. I paid the balance of 12% whilst surrounded by a few of the waiters, one of which was again abusive but this time to my wife. I'd add that we'd been in Rome several days and at no previous restaurants had I been charged a service charge. I would defiantly NOT recommend this low rate café! read more
